From the Pastor:
January 22nd is the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. In acknowledgement of this day,
the Catholic Church holds a National Day of Pray for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. As I mentioned
in my letter in the bulletin last week, we, at St. Peter Chanel, will hold a Night Vigil, tonight (Sunday, January
22nd) which will conclude with a special Mass at 8:30AM. You are invited to participate during the evening and
overnight, joining our Eucharistic Guardians along with representatives from the Knights of Columbus and our
Parish Respect Life Ministry in the Chapel. Morning Mass will be held in the Sanctuary.
Don’t forget to complete your Prayer Card after Mass today. These prayers will be present in the Chapel
throughout our Vigil and at Mass.
If you or someone you know is suffering after an abortion, confidential non-judgmental help is available. Project
Rachel is a national ministry offering help and support. They can be reached at their national toll-free number:
888-456-HOPE(-4673) or online at www.HopeAfterAbortion.org.
PATH-Post Abortion Treatment & Healing is another organization offering help. PATH offers a process of com-
passionate healing and restoration for women and men wounded by abortion. They can be reached at
404-717-5557 or at www.healingafterabortion.org.
After our recent “Winter Weather” exercise, I’d like to remind/suggest that everyone download the parish app.
We are able (make sure that you have notifications turned ON) to send a message updating parish activities and
any schedule changes.
See you at Mass,

You are invited to a short, practical program that will
help you:
Bring Your Family Together to develop a
genuine Legacy for the future of your family.
Avoid Family Conflict and Share Your
Wishes and get agreement from the entire
family on how to implement your wishes.
Determine who the right person would be that
the entire family would accept to be the
quarterback in the event of a family
emergency.
Relax knowing that your family is together…on
the same page.
Whether you are young or old,
you will learn why a legacy means
so much more than money. It
includes creating memories,
choosing legacy items, knowing
your children… and parents,
preparing a love letter for your
heirs, communicating your Five
Wishes, considering and providing
for special needs.
Bill Keen is a Certified Financial
Planner in Alpharetta Georgia.
For over thirty years has been helping people navigate
through the difficult Legacy Issues that develop in the
later years of life. His mission is to bring families
together and agree to the development and
implementation of a Family Legacy Plan. Bill is a
Deacon for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, serving at St.
Peter Chanel in Roswell, Georgia.

“He called them, and immediately they left their boat
and their father and followed Him.” MATTHEW 4:22
Just as Jesus called the first apostles, He calls each
of us to follow Him, too. Not everyone is called to
leave their business or family behind, but we are
expected to put God first in everything. Everything
from our time in daily prayer, our talent in
participating in one of our parish ministries and our
treasure to support the financial needs of our parish
mission.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY UPDATE
This past Saturday was a very successful day at the
Heritage Row Build. The SPC and other volunteers
were extremely busy painting the exterior of the
house and hanging drywall on the ceilings throughout
the house. At the close of the day, all ceilings were
completed and the exterior got the required two
coats of paint. Great work by all.
The house leader, Joe Turner, was very happy with
the results. SPC was responsible for feeding the
volunteers and crew-leaders lunch and that was
accomplished with the assistance of Bedoe's Bar &
Grille. We were able to use the lunch credit we had
with Bedoe's. That credit was the result of the rained-
out build on 12/17/16. Based on the great work done
Saturday, the house remains on schedule despite the
recent poor weather conditions.
Hearts on Fire Women's Bible Study Word + Women + Wine = Hearts on Fire Bible Study
It’s not too late to join our Hearts on Fire Bible study!
Come, rest in God’s Word, enjoy some wine and the
companionship of other women as we continue our
journey through the Bible. Together, we will share the
Good News and study the lives of the Women Who Set
the World on Fire. Join us as we meet on Thursdays
from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at SPC in Classroom 1. Each meet-
ing is a stand-alone session. You are welcome to attend
all or whenever it works into your schedule.
Program is moderated by Melissa Hernandez, OFS.

Having Our Say the Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years.
TRAILBLAZING Written by: Emily Mann
103-year old Sadie and 101-year old Bessie Delany are preparing dinner in remembrance of their father’s birthday. While they cook, they recount a fascinating series of events and anecdotes drawn from their rich family history and their careers as pioneering African American professional women. As descendants of slaves, they have seen their fair share of turbulent times, and yet they forge into the present, with a little daily yoga and help along the way. Having Our Say is our history. It celebrates women and men, African American, our country, and the indomitable human spirit.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARISH
VERIFICATION FORMS
It is that time of the year when parents seeking
to place their children in Catholic Schools need
to have a Parish Verification Form signed by the
Pastor. The Archdiocese of Atlanta asks that all
of its parishes assist with financial support for
the Catholic Schools. It also requires that
parents of Catholic School students be active,
involved, and supportive members of their
home parishes. Here at St. Peter Chanel, we ask
the following of our Catholic School parents:
You participate at Mass every Sunday with
your family;
You have been registered for at least 3
months. If you are new to the area, you are
asked to provide a letter from the pastor of
your former parish regarding your
involvement and support;
You are involved as a parish member and
volunteer in a parish ministry;
You are contributing weekly to St. Peter
Chanel Catholic Church, by use of either parish envelopes or E-Giving system.
For your form to be processed, please
contact Mary Ann Plachta at
678-832-1222 to set up an appointment
with Monsignor Rau for his signature. DO
NOT mail or leave forms with the
receptionist for signature.

Parents will not want to miss this talk.
Joseph Pearce looks at the dangers of techno-
addiction and asks some probing questions about
modern life and its impact on our souls. Is there a
difference between taking time and wasting it?
Does taking time lead to heaven and wasting it
lead to hell? These questions are asked and
answered by Professor Pearce, with the help of
lessons from St. Thomas Aquinas that can teach
us about the use and abuse of today’s technology.
Questions: Contact Deacon Mike at
678-832-1228.
About the speaker: A native of England, Joseph
Pearce is writer in residence at Aquinas College in
Nashville, Tennessee, and Director of the
college’s Center for Faith and Culture

various opportunities available to
help the ministry? Sorting donated
food at our pantry, helping with
collections after Mass once per
month, and visiting people in need of
financial assistance are a just a few of
the ways members are involved.
Perhaps you have a service to offer
which might be useful for our clients.
We welcome your suggestions.
All are welcome to join us at our next

30th at 7:00 pm.

place at 6:30 pm; the meeting starts

and every person feel welcome as
they come to our Church to
celebrate Mass. If you would like to
participate in either of these
ministries, please send an email:

RETREAT
IF GOD LOVES ME, WHY IS IT SO
HARD TO LOVE MYSELF?
MONASTRY RETREAT
February 17th - 19th, 2017. At one
level, we believe God loves us. On
another level, many of us struggle
with feelings of inadequacy, self-
criticism, unfavorable comparisons
with others and forgiving
ourselves. This retreat will provide
tools for coming to know God’s
unconditional love at the kind of
deep cellular level that enables us
to love and accept ourselves in the
brokenness of our human
condition.
