January, 2017 FROM THE PRINCIPAL….
In Christ, Wisdom and Knowledge My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may
have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery
of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2: 2-3
A NEW YEAR BEGINS! W elcom e to the new 2017 school year!
I trust you and your family have been enjoying a very restful break and are feeling refreshed! The staff and I are eagerly
looking forward to seeing you and to working closely with you and the students this year.
A very special welcome to new families! I enjoyed the opportunity of meeting many of you towards the end of last year and
hope you will soon feel at home in the Torrens Valley Christian School community.
Congratulations to our 2016 Year 12 cohort! The high standard of academic achievement obtained last year was a credit to
the students and staff, with our students performing well above the best state averages. Students at TVCS attained eighty A
grades, with a total of 69.5% of all results being an A or B grade. It was particularly pleasing to see five Merit Awards being
earned by our students. Special congratulations to Nathalie Yap (Merit for Research Project and ATAR of 98.25), Taniesha
Morton (Merit Award for Research Project and an ATAR of 97.3), Sarah Kociolek (Merit for Mathematical Applications),
Samuel Johns (Merit for Mathematical Applications) and Ashlyn Vice (Merit for Classical Studies). A total of 11 students
scored an ATAR of above 90. I congratulate students, staff and parents for these outstanding results.
NEW STAFF! As a new year begins, I w ould like to especially w elcom e new staff m em bers Miss Stephanie
Nelson who will be joining us in Secondary Science / PE and Miss Sarah Severino who will be teaching Year 7 Core Studies
as well as undertaking some work in Upper Primary. It is lovely to be able to welcome these new staff members and we pray
God’s blessing on them as they serve Him at TVCS! We offer warm congratulations to Miss Courtney Cinc who was married
over the break and returns to us as Mrs Kernich! We wish Courtney and Matt God’s richest blessings for the future.
A NEW APP! The Skoolbag is here! And it ’s going to be fabulous. Skoolbag will enhance communication between
home and school. It will send you reminders of key events and make life so much easier for you as a parent! Details of how
to download and use the App are contained inside!
NEW FACILITIES! Our facilities are looking their very best for the start of the new school year! The IT
Office has been extensively remodelled and extended and a new customer service area has been installed, enhancing IT
support for staff and students. Additional security has also been added in this area. New lockers have been installed in E
block and the Middle School stage area has been redeveloped. New fencing has been erected around the property on the
corner of Armbuster and Pegasi Ave prior to development of the land for use. Major work has also been undertaken in the
Year 3 /4 Primary classrooms, with the area being repainted and carpeted. The Primary toilets have been repainted. And
wait till you see the Library! The area is looking very swish!
NEW RESOURCES! Our Inform ation Technology departm ent have been w orking hard over the break,
installing two new servers and formatting and refurbishing equipment throughout the school. New student laptops
(Surfaces) have been set-up for all Senior School students and a set of 12 cameras, including two underwater cameras, have
been purchased. Room 13 has been refurbished and a set of high performance laptops installed in Room 25. In the Primary
School, a set of iPads has been purchased for classroom use, along with Sphero robots and a set of Raspberry pies.
THE NEW TERM! 2017 prom ises to be an exciting year and I tr ust that w e will all be renewed spiritually as

The School Card discount is NOT automatic. At the

official notification that you are eligible before the School
can make concessions. To apply for the discount you can
collect a 2017 School Card Application Form by enquiring at
the School Office. Forms can also be found on-line by

appropriate form for your circumstances. Please return the

such time as official notification of eligibility has been
received by the school. Please pay the school card rate by the
due date if you are applying for School Card.

EMERGENCY AND MEDICAL INFORMATION
Up to date family information is required in emergency
situations when your child is ill or injured and it is vital that
your contact details are kept up to date. It is very important
that the Front Office is advised of any changes of home
address, home, work and other contact phone numbers.
NEWSLETTERS
The Newsletter is emailed each fortnight on even weeks
throughout term time. Items for inclusion should be emailed
to [email protected]. Teaching, office staff, and Parents
and Friends work hard to communicate with families through
these publications. The Newsletter is also published on our
website on Thursday of each fortnight at www.tvcs.sa.edu.au.

If your child keeps an Epi pen and/or other medication at
school, please bring this in to the Front Office on the first day
of school. Please check all expiry dates on the epi pens and

not already given it to the Front Office, please also bring this
to the Front Office on the first day of term. For any First Aid
queries, please contact the Front Office.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS NEWS
The P&F hope you have a wonderful
Christmas break and wish you all a Happy
New Year. We look forward to another year
of serving this very special school community. We will not
only have our regular fundraisers such as the canteen and
sausage sizzle at Sports day, hot lunches and craft stalls but a
new event will be Thirsty Thursdays in term 1. Please see the
notice below for further information on what we are sure will
be a popular new fundraiser! Mid-year will also see the
return of our fun family Community Event. If you have any
ideas for fundraisers that you would like us to provide, we
welcome your suggestions.
In 2016 the P&F raised over $9000 through our various
fundraisers and we wish to thank you for your generous
support. This has enabled us to donate funds to the school
Welfare Team and Christian Horizon School. The remainder
will be donated for various projects throughout the school in
2017.We also give heartfelt thanks to those that have
donated their time to help out at the various fundraisers and
of course to the dedicated committee members. It is much
appreciated.
Support by P&F volunteers was provided at special events
such as the Welcome Morning Tea, Open Day, Orientation
Day, the Year 12 Graduation and assisting the Leadership
Team at Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
We look forward to seeing you at the Welcome Morning Tea
on 6, February where a warm welcome to the TVCS school
community is given. We also encourage you to please join
our P&F. New members are always welcome and we would
love for you to join us as little or as much as you are able. We
also will be asking for your help especially for the canteen at
both Sports day’s and for the very popular Hot Lunches to
continue in terms 2 and 3.
Our upcoming AGM is on the 29, March at 7 pm and we
need new members to continue our current fundraising
efforts. There will be positions on the committee to be filled.
For further information, please contact us through our email
[email protected] or through the front office or contact
Jude (Coordinator) on 0439 388747.
We thank God for this opportunity to serve and contribute to
the school. Warm regards
Judith Osborne (P&F coordinator)
SAFETY REMINDERS
As the new year commences, we want to thank you for your
care and vigilance in our car parking areas. The safety of our
children is of paramount importance and we remind you to
slow down, take care and follow the signage. To facilitate
traffic flow, please remember not to park in the ‘Drop and
Go’ area. This area is reserved for quick pick up and set down
of children before and after school.
Thank you also for the care you take in respecting the safety
and privacy of local residents by not parking over driveway
areas and taking care if performing a u-turn in Gumtree
Drive. Our relationship with our neighbours is important to
us and we thank you for respecting property owners in the
region. Additionally, we ask that parents do not drop their
children off in the Staff Carpark at the back of the
school. This car park is not an area for students. The school
only has permission for staff to access that car park via the
road up to the bowling club.
Thank you for your patience in these important areas for the
safety and well-being of everyone in our community.
