Welcome to the digital version ofThe Bikers Trading Post

The Bikers Trading Post is now being published monthly as adigital magazine. We have been making some big changes. Now, instead of being a one man show, we're teaming up withothers to make us more of a community magazine. This willlet us cover more and publish a lot more of all the events thatyou are going to. We are a local publication and dealing withlocal happenings. Yes, we will cover a few of the biggershows that a lot of you follow but we understand you have nointerest in a poker run in Kentucky. We will not be limited tothe per page cost like in the normal printed publications. Youcan download the whole magazine and save it and you maytake it to a printer and print part of it or all of it. This monthwe are putting in two calendars, one vertical and onehorizontal. Most of the articles will have links and they are inred and labeled. If you click on that link it will take youto the albums of photos or a video slideshow from the eventand you are welcome to right click in them to downloadand use for any non-commercial use. Please give us credit ifyou put them on your pages. You can take them and get printsof you and your friends if they were at one of the events thatwe covered. We have a facebook page that if you click on itwill take you to a current list of the events that are happeningin our area. At this time we have listed over 415 events pastand present for 2015 in Western Pa.https://www.facebook.com/thebikerstradingpost Pleasecheck it out and friend us, and please feel free to shareanything on that page you want to.Now with that all being said this is a biker magazine. We arecovering the bike life, style and events. We work hard totry and keep things clean but if something is happening in thebackground and we miss it, OH WELL. If you areoffended by off color jokes and photos of people getting crazyand photos of girls on bikes you are at the wrong place.November is a very slow month for the bike life. If you haveanything happening please let me know [email protected]

We are looking for people who go to a lot of the events andwould like to do sales and also cover a few events. We aretrying to keep the areas to about one county each, so after youget set up you could cover it in 2 or 3 days a month. Weare offering a great sales incentive so if you are looking for alittle money on the side please get in touch with us. Wewill also be looking for bikes to feature in the magazine alongwith models for on the bikes.

Anyone that is going to an event and wants to share it with usplease e-mail us at [email protected]. If youwould like to join us in sales, covering events and gettingpublished please let us know.

Rambling Thoughts.Well the year is over and this has been a crazy monthpersonal and with the magazine. Not a lot of thingshappening in the bike world unless you were wanting tohave your kids see Santa at your local Harley-Davidsonstore. The swap meets are starting in January and there areseveral of the large bike shows that are beginning the endof January and running through February. We will not beputting out a February issue because we are very eventorientated. In this issue you will find a February andmarch calendar for the people that are printing them out tokeep and then from now on we will be running a monthahead on the calendars. You can keep up with all theevents as we post daily on our Facebook page.https://www.facebook.com/thebikerstradingpost . Keepyour eyes open for our Super Spring Issue March 1st,2016.

Poker RunsPoker runs can be a great event to get a good group ofpeople together and to also raise money for a local cause. We are listing as many of the events like this that we canand trying to be a part of the community. In 2015 welisted over 400 local events on the Facebook page and weare listing many of them in here and also under theevents page on our website. Look for the events listed byDate, then we have listed where and the type of event it is.Under that it will have in red either information, flyer orwebsite and if you click on that it will take you to moreinformation on that event.

Upcoming Poker Runs

Look in this issue for our poker run guide. It is just a fewhints for people doing the first one, but it will also have alink to a list of over 400 runs that we had listed last year.Check it out to see if any of them cross paths with thedates you are planning. If you have questions e-mail orcall the people that ran them last year and make sure thatyou are not crossing paths and competing with each other.

Last on the list.We are growing every month in readership. As springcomes around look for us at all of the local events. We area local publication for the local people. We are in need ofpeople to cover events in some areas. If you are interestedplease let us know.

A quick guide to help in the organizing motorcycle runs.

Organization is the biggest key. Start by planning as far ahead as you can. Many of the really goodruns will go on the same weekend every year. The second Saturday of July is especially popular. This will not only help the riders planning, but also helps other people planning runs to know aheadof time so they do not conflict. Also, on the organization level you need to follow up on everythingthat you do. If you talk to someone about doing something for it, you have to give them a remindercall a week or two ahead of time and confirm, then two days ahead of time call and thank them fortheir efforts in making it a success. That way if they did forget, you are reminding them.

Picking stops. One of the biggest complaints and problems I hear from people is the chosen stops. Many times the runs will leave a bar, go two miles, and stop at another bar. Some of the best runs Ihave seen are where they start at a park, fire hall or some place of that type, with coffee and donuts. Then first stop is a bar, second stop is a motorcycle retail location, third stop a bar, and so on. Thatway you get your stops in and the riders are not spending the day drinking. Also, you want to planstops that are easy to get to. When you pick the stops, talk to them ahead of time so they can plan onhaving enough people to service the riders. Most places love to have 50 to 100 people stopping inspending money, so you can ask for some type of giveaway even if it is just bar t-shirts or adonation. If you do a giveaway, make it so they have to go into the establishment to get a ticket.

Lining up the route. Take a lot of care in the route that you choose. Make sure the roads are safeand that the traffic is bearable. If you have a dangerous intersection talk to the local policedepartment and ask for a officer there to help direct traffic. Most of the time they are happy to help.Make sure you have enough spotters for all intersections. The day before the run, drive the route tomake sure nothing has happened like tar and chip, or detours.

The final stop. Most of the time the final stop will be a dinner. A lot of the lounges and bars willhelp with the food in exchange for having the drink sales. Follow through because I have seen thistype of thing fall through. If you are supplying the food you can add sales of non-rider dinners tohelp the cause.

Advertising. The more the better. There are a lot of inexpensive ways to do it.

Flyers. Have as much information on them as you can, but do not overload them. Make them standout in the crowd. Color is great and sometimes you can even find a sponsor to print them for you.Place them everywhere. Postcards are cheap and so are business cards. I like to have all the stopslisted, so the riders not only know where they are going to stop, but it is advertising for the locations.

Internet. There are many free ways to advertise on the Internet. Have a nice flyer and get a digitalcopy of it to spread. Have everyone involved place it on their pages and ask for everyone else to passit on. It can snowball in no time. www.facebook.com/thebikerstradingpost is our Facebook page andwe will list all bike related non-profit items there, on our event pagehttp://www.thebikerstradingpost.com/page11.html and in the issues of the magazine.

Something old in combination with several youngsters makes a great impacton troops abroad celebrating Christmas this year. Using a 1932 M38A1 U.S. ArmyJeep as the old collection container the young Kick-stand Kid members attemptedto fill it with donated items to send to our currently deployed troops. Thisambitious group made signs, passed out flyers, collected and sold baked goodsfrom a local Legion #111, posted on social media and got support from theMeadville Tribune to raise awareness for this event. So with all the preparationsmade, this group set up at the Meadville Downtown Mall on Saturday, November21st from 10-4pm to attempt to collect as many donations as they could. Theywere all dressed in matching “Support the Troops” t-shirts that Laurie‛sEmbroidery designed and donated to the Kick-stand Kids working this event. Thelocal support was outstanding and the group raised $305 in cash donations to helpwith the postage expenses to send the boxes overseas and the Jeep wasgenerously loaded down with donations to put in the boxes. Delmar Preston, fromPost 52 was overjoyed with the amount of donations when he arrived to pick upthe jeep. After the event the Kick-stand Kids went to Post 52 to present a checkfor the money donations and to enjoy a great meal at the end of a productive day. This group is eager to return to Post 52 to pack the boxes and see the endproduct of their hard work. Future community service events are being planned bythis group, and they are currently looking for other members interested in makinga difference in the community.

Humor to relieve stress

Never Outsmart the HillbillyA hillbilly went hunting one day in West Virginia and baggedthree ducks. He put them in the bed of his pickup truck and wasabout to drive home where he was confronted by an ornery gamewarden who didnt like hillbillies. The game warden ordered tothe hillbilly to show his hunting license, and the hillbilly pulledout a valid West Virginia hunting license. The game wardenlooked at the license, then reached over and picked up one of theducks, sniffed its butt, and said, This duck aint from WestVirginia . This is a Kentucky duck. You got a Kentucky huntinlicense, boy? The hillbilly reached into his wallet and produceda Kentucky hunting license.

The game warden looked at it, then reached over and grabbedthe second duck, sniffed its butt, and said, This aint noKentucky duck. This ducks from Tennessee. You got anTennessee license?

The hillbilly reached into his wallet and produced an Tennesseelicense. The warden then reached over and picked up the thirdduck, sniffed its butt, and said This aint no Tennessee duck. This here ducks from Virginia. . You got a Virginia. huntinlicense?

Again the hillbilly reached into his wallet and brought out aVirginia. hunting license. The game warden was extremelyfrustrated at this point, and he yelled at the hillbilly Just wherethe hell are you from?

The hillbilly turned around, bent over, dropped his pants, andsaid You tell me, youre the expert!!

The Motorcycle CopA car slows down at a stop sign and keeps driving. Biker Bob asa young motorcycle cop sees him and pulls him over.

"Why didn't you stop?" Bob asks

The man says, "I slowed down." Bob pulls out his night stickand begins beating the man unmercifully and asks the guy......"do you want me to stop or slow down?" Biker Bobs service asa motorcycle cop was short lived..

Letter to SantaOne day, a little boy wrote to Santa Claus, "Please send me asister." Santa Claus wrote him back, "Ok, send me your mother."

Humor to relieve Humor to relieve stressThe $15.00 Harley

A sixteen year-old boy came home with a new Harley-Davidsonand his parents began to yell and scream, Where did you getthat bike???!!! He calmly told them, 'I bought it today.

'With what money? demanded his parents. They knew what anew Harley costs.

'Well, said the boy, 'this one cost me fifteen dollars. So theparents began to yell even louder. 'Who would sell a bike likethat for fifteen dollars? they said.

'It was the lady up the street, said the boy. I dont know hername - they just moved in. She saw me ride past on my bicycleand asked me if I wanted to buy a motorcycle for fifteen dollars.

'Oh my Goodness!, moaned the mother, 'she must be a childmolester . Who knows what she will do next? John, you go rightup there and see whats going on. So the boys father walked upthe street to the house where the lady lived and found her calmlysitting on the porch drinking beer!

He introduced himself as the father of the boy to whom she hadsold a Harley for fifteen dollars and demanded to know why shedid it.

'Well, she said, 'this morning I got a phone call from my ol man.I thought the s.o.b. was out of town on a parts run, but learnedfrom one of his bro's he had run off to Hawaii with some youngblonde whore and really doesnt intend on comin back.. Whenthe lying bastard called he told me his old truck had broke downand he was stranded on the side of the road and needed cash , heasked me to sell his new bike and send him the money.

So I did.
