Here’s a bit of useless Christmas trivia for you.
Did you know that every year three people die from
testing a 9v battery works on their tongue? I wonder
which year will be mine; how else do you test them?
The truth is that we live in a time in which death is
seen as the enemy. But, there are things worse than
death; like not living while we have life. The goal of
our faith is to give us life while our hearts still beat.
Otherwise, we can so easily sit around worrying,
wondering, fearing and waiting.
The first three weeks of this year we are have a
mini-series of sermons on how to make the year new
all year through. The sermon series is about finding
life. The first step is to forgive. Forgive means to let
go. If we never learn to let go of what was, we will
never be able to hold on to what is. Really, all we
have is what is; yesterday is past and tomorrow is just
a dream. The second step is to love. Reach out with
love. Love is not an agreement; it is acceptance. It is
the intentional, compassionate way we treat other
people. The third step is to give and share. We all
have more than we need. The more we hoard, the
poorer we feel, the more we share the richer we feel.
Try practicing these steps in the New Year and
each day will be a gift. Live without them and the
sadness is, is that we will simply wrestle; lost all year
long.
I look forward to sharing time with you this Sunday.
Shalom,
Pastor Kirk
Gratitude Abounds.... To Our Church Family, Dave and I want to let you know how much we appreciate the beautiful altar flowers re-cently delivered by Kathie Richards. It was a lovely autumn bouquet and it stayed fresh for a long time! Thank you for remembering Dave and me in this way. With Christian love, Peggy Ewart Dear Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Your gift not only helps children receive the services and treatment they need, it helps make sure special needs are met; important life skills are taught; individual activities are offered; and specialized education, therapy, religious life, and habilitation tools are available. And, please know the children know there are donors– mostly strangers to them– who make sure they have good memories and experiences. It is important to these kids....and critical for them. Thank you for helping make all of this happen as we create promising futures for children. We wish you a very Merry Christmas! Kyle Zanker, Chief Development Officer Dear Pilgrim, I truly enjoyed Rich and Kris Gill’s visit as well as the beautiful altar flowers during my rehab. Thank you so much for thinking of me! God Bless, Bob Rayman A very big THANK YOU to the Pilgrim UCC congregation for your generosity to the staff this Christmas season. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and wonderful fellowship. God bless you all and Happy New Year! Sincerely,
