KARAWILKERSON.BLOGSPOT.COM JANUARY 2014
Hola from Peru,
It has been a great 3 weeks so
far here in Arequipa. I have finally
settled into my home and have
become good friends with the
other students I live with. I have
now finished my third week at
the language school, and my
Spanish is coming along, although
I feel that my English is getting
worse! I have 7 more weeks
here, and I am praying that I will
be able to communicate easily
and effectively by then. I am
enjoying my time here to focus
on the language, but I am ready
for Cajamarca! I have had many
fun experiences here including
going to the local market,
walking to the mall, exploring
around the Plaza, eating at
Chili’s, getting my Peru cell
number, finding the post office,
cramming onto the buses, and so
much more! I am adapting to the
Peruvian life!
Off to a great start...

School
I love the language school I am
attending. Each day, I have a
practice and a grammar class. For
now, it is just my teacher and I in
my classes, so that has been
nice. I am learning a lot of verbs
and vocabulary which has greatly
helped in my understanding of
the language. I am able to speak
quite a bit, but I still have to
think about what I want to say
and how to say it. I am looking
forward to the day when I can
just speak without thinking so
hard!
Bible Study/Church
Each Wednesday night, I go to a
women’s Bible study with people
from the church and other
students. This has been so helpful
both for my spiritual growth as
well as for my language learning.
We spend about 2 hours singing,
praying and studying the Word.
We go around and each pray
before we start, and I am getting
much better at praying in
Spanish! It is a refreshing time in
the middle of the week. Every
Sunday, I go to church with the
family I live with here. Many of
the other students attend this
church as well. I am surprised at
how much of the service I am
able to understand, but that is
just reassurance that I am
progressing in the language.
Home
I live with a Peruvian Christian
family and I am beginning to feel
at home here. The parents are so
hospitable and always checking
to make sure we are all ok. I live
here with 3 other students from
England, Norway, and Scotland.
Every need I could possibly have
is met here. We have people that
cook 3 meals a day for us, clean
our rooms each day, and do our
laundry. It is truly a blessing. I am
thankful for the time I have here
to put all of my effort into
learning the language.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORTON THIS JOURNEY!

PRAYER REQUESTS:
* Pray for a quick and smooth process of obtaining myresident visa. I will have to make several trips to Lima tocomplete this.
* Pray for great progress to be made in my language skills.Pray for increased understanding as well as confidenceto speak as much as possible without worrying aboutmaking mistakes.
* Pray for my continued spiritual growth. I have had todepend on God here more than ever before for simpleeveryday tasks. This has allowed me to draw closer toHim, and I do not want that to fade.
