If you would like more information on training and capacity building opportunities for your organization, please contact

APPL Education Coordinator, Chuck Benjamin, at [email protected] or 301-946-9475 x 225.

APPL recently wrapped its Webinar series Preparing for the Future: Learning from Shutdown 2013, a three-part

series designed to explore best practices and lessons learned from the most recent government shutdown. Although

the likelihood of another shutdown now looks somewhat remote, the content in the series pertains to any crisis

management situation and should be included in any risk management plan. The individual Webinars, entitled Building

Your Operating Reserves; External Relations (Communication and Planning); and Advocacy, were free for APPL

members. Current APPL members are welcome to view the Webinar recordings and access other resources from the

series. For more information or to receive the link to the member Webpage, please contact Education Coordinator Chuck

Benjamin at [email protected].

APPL Training Corps member Nicki Phelps will travel to Zion National Park during the week of February 10 to

conduct service training for the members of the Plateaus, Peaks, and Canyons Association (PPCA). The agenda has

yet to be completely finalized, but will cover a wide range of topics pertaining to service basics and then moving on to

“raising the bar” on an organization’s current service methods. For more information about APPL trainings, please visit

www.appl.org or contact Education Coordinator Chuck Benjamin at [email protected].

Cedar Creek Organics® Bug Off Oil® is now called Organic Insect Repellent® You may remember them way back

when we first met them as Cedar Creek Products®. In 2010 Cedar Creek changed the name of their company (Cedar

Creek Products®) to Cedar Creek Organics® and they changed the name of their Bug Off Oil® to Organic Insect

Repellent Spray ® to better reflect what it and they really are – Organic!

After 15 years it is still one of the best – and safest – repellents. Whether you’re looking for Organic Insect Repellent,

Anti-Poison Ivy Soap or historically accurate items you can see, feel, touch and smell them all in Albuquerque when you

stop by Cedar Creek Organics L.L.C. ®. Dedicated to working with Mom and Pop stores, independent garden centers,

parks and organizations that appreciate the smaller impact organic products have on the eco-system, everything is

packaged to encourage consumers to think twice before tossing the packaging anywhere other than a recyclable trash can.

Cedar Creek’s unique Soap In A Tin - is the soap dish the camper a can use while visiting the park, and yet it is also a

great item to take home as a gift. Read the back of the labels - interpretive and funny!

Check them out on line before the APPL convention. In 2014 Cedar Creek is proud to say “We are Made in America! –

See You In Albuquerque.”

Urban Institute provides key data on the problems experienced by charitable nonprofits in performing work under

contracts and grants with governments, including findings on late payments, failure to pay the full costs of services

provided on behalf of governments, changes to written agreements in mid-stream, and unnecessarily burdensome

application and reporting requirements. Full Report, Brief

Common Sense Solutions: A Dozen Common Sense Solutions to Government-Nonprofit Contracting Problems from

the National Council of Nonprofits explains why reforms are so important right now and provides a menu of proven,
