ERINS OWN HURLING & FOOTBALL CLUB CUMANN IOMÁNAÍOCHTA & PEILE RÓGHA ÉIREANN January 2012 Firstly, Erin’s Own would like to wish all the children, the families and the teachers of the parish a very happy and prosperous new year. In terms of the coaching scheme, 2011 was a great year; we had camps, clinics, interschool matches for the older classes and interschool blitzes for the first and second class children. Every class from first through sixth got the chance to play hurling/camogie and football and to experience what the coaching scheme is all about. Looking to the year ahead, the next main thing on the agenda for Erin’s Own is the registration days for existing members and new members for the coming year. Any child who is interested in playing hurling, football or camogie with their friends is very welcome to come along, sign up and just have a go at playing these great Irish sports! At Eastertime we can look forward to a weeklong GAA camp for all the children of the four schools. Last year we had 110 children enjoying themselves in the Easter sunshine, this year we hope to top that and have an even better camp! Sciath na Scoil will present itself shortly after Easter time and we can expect plenty of great coaching being done by the teachers in the schools and also some riveting challenge matches taking place between the four schools. If the success of the schools in the football version of the Sciath na Scoil is anything to go by, we can expect some silverware to be brought back to the schools trophy cabinets in the Glounthaune Parish this coming May. “To all the children of the four schools, have a great sporting year in 2012!” – Erin’s Own ERIN’S OWN COACHING SCHEME NEWSLETTER 2012 COLMANS COACHING CORNER Colman Dillon, a long serving and much respected coach with Erin’s Own has a number of golden rules that any young person playing hurling would do well to always be aware of.
