FRONT COVER: The pictures on the front cover of the magazine were taken by me but I‟m sure there are better photographers in the Stukeleys. Please send in any photo or drawing with a Stukeleys or seasonal theme. There will be two categories. Under 14 and over 14.One from each will be chosen for the front cover. I look forward to having a great front cover for the February issue.
Happy New Year and best wishes,

STUKELEYS PARISH COUNCIL
Thirteen Councillors, the two County Councillors and two members of the public attended the December meeting of the Council. Mr. Ryan gave members the figures relating to the two phases of works required for refurbishment at Great Stukeley village hall, namely the invalid toilets and acoustic works in the main hall, after much debate it was agreed that the Parish Council would only fund the necessary acoustical works in the main hall with grant aid amounting to £8600 and would suggest to the hall committee that they fund other works from their own reserves. Mr. Cowdery reported that footpath investigation and registration work was still continuing with both District and County authorities and that this process would be slow project. War Memorial works were now complete and all grant aid had been received. The next agenda item was the traffic calming issue. It was reported that the presentation in Gt. Stukeley village hall had been well attended and that the results of the questionnaire were now at hand. After much discussion and taking into account that every household in both villages had been invited to attend the presentation and that, more significantly, that 83% of the completed questionnaires were in favour of implementing the advertised scheme in it‟s entirety the members decided that they would suggest to the County Council that the scheme was implemented as soon as was practicable. It was reported that Mr. Martyn Fox of Hill Close had volunteered his services as editor of the Parish Magazine. The Members then had a intense discussion on the precept request figure for 2009/10, it had to be borne in mind that at the end of the period the Council tax revenue from Hinchingbrooke Park and this will represent a significant reduction in the Councils income, which could either mean a steep rise in Council Tax or a big reduction in services provided (Parish grass cutting an example), on the other hand the council had a reduced commitment to funding at Great Stukeley hall. It was decided that the budget for the period be set at £21500 to reflect the Councils present level of expenditure and that future decisions on finance could be left until after the 2010 local council elections, when the issue could be a subject for consideration. The next Council meeting will be at Little Stukeley village hall on Monday 5
th January 2009 at 7.30pm.

A WARM WELCOME
Happy New Year to you all.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.
My name is Jason Adams and my wife is Joanne. We have taken over as new managers of The
Three Horseshoes pub in the village. We are a young family with children that moved to the area
from London just over two years ago and hope to turn the pub into a warm, friendly and exciting place
to relax.
We have many plans for 2009, including quiz nights, karaoke evenings for you X-Factor wannabes,
and plenty of charity events.
During this year the pub will go through various stages of improvement, from new furniture and bar to
a children‟s area and additional seating for some tasty “Pub Grub”.
We will be starting a menu in the early part of this year and hope to offer a wider variety thereafter.
Pop in and meet us for more details.
We hope to see you all soon.
Once again Happy New Year to you all.
Jason and Joanne Adams. The Three Horseshoes.

The Stukeleys W.I. December Meeting and Christmas Party
10th December 2008
The evening was opened at 7.25pm with the singing of Jerusalem. President Jan Sly welcomed 23 members and 4 guests.
Jan thanked Sylvia Reynolds for the lovely table decorations and Mary Alleyne-James for the Curtis Bowl and Draw Prize.
Jan then informed the members that their donation for the hampers at the Great Stukeley Village Hall Bazaar had raised £197 this went towards a grand total of £845 raised on the day.
We all stood for the W.I. Grace before the lovely dinner, supplied by Jan Tildan was served.
After the dinner Sheila Stephenson gave an amusing, alternate, version of the 12 days of Christmas.
We then had the evening‟s draws, Mary Alleyne-James won the Hamper and Jean Chalker won the members draw. There were 12 prizes in the main draw.
Jan then presented the cups. Joan Gray won the Berrill Cup for a handmade napkin ring. Joan was also presented with the Juggins Points Cup on the evening. This cup is presented to the member with the most points over the course of the year based on competition entries. Jan Sly and Shirley Berrill were joint second in the Juggins Points Cup and Ann Render and Nicki Sly joint third.
We then played games, a board with famous people that we had to guess; Kathy Snitch won the prize for the most correct answers. „Remember the bag‟s which was won by Ann Monk and pass the parcel won by Brian Berrill
At the end of the evening Brian Berrill gave a vote of thanks.
Jan Sly closed the evening wishing all members and guests a Merry Christmas and a safe journey home, she also informed members of Januarys speaker, competition and roll call.

FAREWELL AND THANKS TO JENNY
It is now nearly two and half years since Jenny Watson started her role as Editor of the Stukeleys Magazine and I am confident that I speak for all when I say how grateful the residents of Great and Little Stukeley, and in particular the Parish Council, are for all the sterling work she has done to keep us informed on local issues of interest in the time since she picked up the mantle from Maria Field. Despite Jenny‟s extremely busy working life she carried on valiantly and somehow managed to remain patient with those submitting late inputs and indeed on occasions unfairly took the blame when the Magazine was out late. She has now moved to Sussex and hands over the role of Editor to Martyn Fox whose contact details appear above. We are all grateful to Jenny for all her hard work and innovative ideas and wish her all the very best for the future in her new surroundings.
Richard Turpin Magazine Member for The Stukeleys Parish Council
