Season 2019 | Distracted 5

As this note is being written, it’s two weeks before opening and everything is starting

to come together. The lights, sounds, videos, graphics, wigs, hair, makeup, costumes, set and props are all starting to crop up all over the place as the production team is in traffi c warden mode and the cast are all trying not to run each other over. You don’t rehearse a show, you rehearse to get a show. We are all involved (the cast, the crew, the directors and designers) in the process of creating something together. It is the scariest and most wonderful thing a group of people can do, and it is you being here in the audience that makes it at all possible.

— Isaac Joyce-Shaw

On the topic of raising children, a wise woman once said: “the nights are long, but the years are so very short”. And it’s true. Nights when

they won’t go to sleep, or days when they’re sick or hurting, seem to go on forever. Meanwhile we have, seemingly, a million other competing responsibilities, obligations, and assorted shiny objects swirling around us like a whirlwind, snatching away our most precious treasure, time. And before you know it, that baby is a toddler, that toddler is a kid riding her bike in the street, and now that kid is gone, grown up, and away.

This play is about a family caught in that whirlwind, and a mother who tries to balance it all — who tries to hang onto that thread of time before it runs out. We hope you will fi nd it truthful.

— Lucas Hill

Happy New Year! As your new Board President, I am thrilled to be able to ring in our 65th Anniversary Year! Be sure to

mark your calendars for our anniversary event on July 13, 2019! Every fi ve years we celebrate our anniversary, induct new Lifetime Members and celebrate people who make our theater a jewel of the mid-Willamette Valley. The planning committee promises that you will have a great evening of camaraderie and entertainment.

2018 has been one of gratitude in so many ways. We are thankful to our staff, who keep theorganization running smoothly and aptly handle the logistical side of our mission; they are a

strong and dedicated foundation to everything we do. We are thankful for our vibrant volunteers, who put in endless hours providing assistance in every way imaginable and are the heart and soul of every production. We are thankful to our members, donors and show sponsors, whose continued support is vital to our existence; we are honored and humbled each time you chose Pentacle Theatre as a recipient of your gracious gifts. And last, but certainly not least, we are thankful to our patrons — without you, there would be no need for our little theater in the woods. To see your smiling faces in the audience each night brings us joy and renews our dedication to provide quality theater to our community.

The new year has started with a completely sold out run of our winter fundraiser production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid! Our upcoming production in March of Mamma Mia! promises to be a fun-fi lled night of story-telling through the songs of ABBA. The rest of the season is fi lled with shows that will reach a wide range of audiences and theatrical tastes — don’t miss out!

I can’t wait to watch our 65th Anniversary Year unfold — may it be our best year yet!

With gratitude!

ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!

The show appeared on Broadway and won several 2002 Tony Awards, including: best musical, best book of a musical, best actress in a musical, best featured actress in a musical and best orchestrations.
