Christmas Season / Tiempo de Navidad

The liturgical season of Christmas begins with the vigil Masses on Christmas Eve and concludes on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. During this season, we celebrate the birth of Christ into our world and into our hearts, and reflect on the gift of salvation that is born with him…including the fact that he was born to die for us.

El tiempo litúrgico de Navidad comienza con las misas de vigilia en la víspera de Navidad y concluye en la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor. Durante esta temporada, se celebra el nacimiento de Cristo en nuestro mundo y en nuestro corazón, y reflexionar sobre el don de la salvación que nace con él ... incluyendo el hecho de que él nació para morir por nosotros.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, St. John the Baptist announced to his disciples and the people of his time, Jesus Christ, as the “Lamb of God.” In Jesus’ time, it is evident for the Jews, of the association between the lamb and the sacrificial offering in the temple ritual. The sacrificial offering is so central to the Jewish’s worship. Jesus came and offered Himself as the definitive and ultimate sacrifice to God for the redemption of the fallen humanity.

He continues to offer Himself as sacrifice today, at mass, to restore us to the right relationship with the Father. In fact, in every Eucharistic liturgy, we hear through the instrument of the priest, right before the Holy Communion, the word of John: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world…” These words continue to echo till the end of time as means of salvation and as spiritual food to strengthen us on the journey to the heavenly kingdom.

How do we appreciate the gift of God Himself offered to us at mass?

The best way to show our appreciation is to consciously prepare to receive Him worthily, by remaining in the state of grace and by offering our sacrifices in the daily lives.

How do we know what to offer?

Jesus invites us to “Come and see” as told in today’s reading. Come and spend time with Him in prayer and in adoration to know what is God’s will for our lives and what is pleasing to God.

En el Evangelio de este domingo, San Juan Bautista anunció a sus discípulos y la gente de su tiempo, Jesucristo, como el "Cordero de Dios". En tiempos de Jesús, es evidente para los judíos, asociar el cordero como ofrenda de sacrificio en el ritual del templo. La ofrenda del sacrificio es la parte central en la adoración de los judíos. Jesús vino y se ofreció como el sacrificio mayor y definitivo a Dios para la redención de la humanidad.

Él continúa ofreciéndose a sí mismo como sacrificio hoy en día, en la Misa, para restaurarnos a la relación correcta con el padre. De hecho, en cada liturgia eucarística, escuchamos a través de sacerdote, justo antes de la comunión, las palabra de Juan: "Este es el Cordero de Dios, que quita los pecados del mundo..." Estas palabras continuaran repitiéndose hasta el final del tiempo, como medio de salvación y como alimento espiritual para fortalecernos en el camino al reino celestial.

¿Cómo apreciamos el regalo de Dios que se nos ofrece en la Misa?

La mejor manera de mostrar nuestro agradecimiento es preparándonos conscientemente para recibirlo dignamente, permaneciendo en estado de gracia y ofreciendo nuestros sacrificios en la vida cotidiana.

¿Cómo sabemos qué ofrecer?

Jesús nos invitan a "Venir y ver" como dijo en la lectura de hoy. Vengan a pasar tiempo con él en oración y en adoración para descubrir cual es la voluntad de Dios en nuestras vidas y lo que es agradable a Dios.

CALLED TO SERVE For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as “one mightier than I.” But he did as Jesus asked, and the “Holy Spirit descended” and heaven’s voice spoke to Jesus, “You are my beloved Son.” Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today’s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, “peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve God’s word.

LLAMADOS A SERVIR Por muchas semanas hemos celebrado la aparición de la presencia divina en su forma humana. Cuando era niño, Jesús vivió con María y José, al nacer lo visitaron unos pastores y luego algunos errantes magos de Oriente. Hoy celebramos otra situación, ocurrida un tiempo después, a

un grupo reunido en el río Jordán. Juan vaciló cuando le tocó bautizar a Jesús, a quien reconocía como “uno más poderoso que yo”. Pero hizo como Jesús se lo pidió, “descendió el Espíritu Santo” y una voz celestial habló a Jesús: “Tú eres mi hijo, el predilecto”. Jesús estaba empezando su vida pública de enseñanza y de servicio. Pronto comenzaría a llamar a otros a seguirlo. Pedro fue el primero que Jesús llamó. En

la segunda lectura de hoy anuncia el centro del mensaje: “la paz que traería Jesucristo, el Señor de todos”. Pedro fue llamado, y tú y yo somos llamados a llevar el mensaje y cumplir la palabra de Dios.

Rite of Acceptance into the order of Catechumens

This is the liturgical rite, marking the beginning of the period of the catechumenate, as the candidate express and the Church through the community, accepts their intention to respond to God’s call to follow the way of Christ. This rite is usually celebrated on some annual date, preferably on a Sunday liturgy where the fuller assembly is present. It will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 9:30am.

Este es el rito litúrgico, marcando el principio del período del catecumenado, mientras los candidatos expresan aceptan su intención de responder al llamado de Dios siguiendo el camino de Cristo y de aceptar la enseñanza de la Iglesia.
