God’s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water God’s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water God’s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water to wash, heal, and satisfy. to wash, heal, and satisfy. to wash, heal, and satisfy.
As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others. As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others. As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others.

*Please stand, in body or in spirit. Text printed in bold italics to be read in unison.
Prelude Chiming of the Hour Welcome
Introit (hymn 10, verse 1) Sing glory to the name of God, whose holy splendor shines abroad. Alleluia! Alleluia! Enthroned above the crashing waves, the God of grace and glory saves.
*Call to Worship
God says, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.” Ascribe to God majesty, strength, and the honor due God’s name. Let us worship almighty God in holy splendor.
*Hymn 485 We Know That Christ Is Raised
*Call to Confession
*Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, in baptism you promise forgiveness and new life, making us part of the body of Christ. Yet, we confess that we remain preoccupied with ourselves, separated from sisters and brothers in Christ. We cling to destructive habits, hold grudges, and show reluctance to welcome one another. We allow the past to hold us hostage. In your loving-kindness, have mercy on us, and free us from sin. Renew our trust in you, that we might obey your will and serve you with joy; through Christ we pray.
(time for silent confession) And let God’s people say: Amen.
*Assurance of Pardon
*The Peace of Christ
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.
*Sung Response (hymn 306, verse 1)
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love. The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

*Profession of Faith Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world? I do. Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior, trusting in his grace and love? I do. Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his Word and showing his love? I will, with God’s help. With the whole church, let us affirm what we believe. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the
right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is a right and joyful thing to offer thanks to you, O God … we join the everlasting hymn of praise:
3
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
You fill our world with glory and light … all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever. Amen. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread, Pouring of the Cup
Sharing of the Elements [Communion is served by intinction. You are invited to come forward, take a piece of bread (all gluten-free), dip it into the chalice, and then eat it. As you pass the baptismal font, you are invited to pause and take a pebble from the water as a way to remember your baptism.]

WORSHIP NOTES
Today is the Sunday when we recall Jesus’
baptism. We also take time to remember and
reaffirm our own baptisms – a poignant thing to
do anytime, but especially at the beginning of a
new year.
While our middle hymn this morning, You Are
Mine, is not a new song, it is a new addition to a
Presbyterian hymnal. A favorite of many folks,
including Anna Thomas, the text comes from
Isaiah 43 (our first Scripture reading today). Note
that the entire text is enclosed in quotation marks.
These are God’s words to each of us: “I love you
and you are mine.”

AN INTRO TO ISLAM Today begins a five-week study on Islam, offering
an excellent opportunity to separate fact from
fiction when it comes to what our Muslim brothers

The class will meet at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship
hall.
