Every first day of the year we celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. The entire Church gives honor to the mystery of Theotokos. Western and Eastern Communities of the Church sing the joyful song of praise to God as thanksgiving for the gift of the Blessed Virgin. On this day in the Eastern Church a special hymn is sung called Akathist: “An Archangel was sent from Heaven to say to the Mother of God: Rejoice! And seeing Thee, O Lord, taking bodily form, he was amazed and with his bodiless voice he stood crying to her such things as these:
• Rejoice, thou through whom joy will flash forth! • Rejoice, thou through whom the curse will cease! • Rejoice, revival of fallen Adam! • Rejoice, redemption of the tears of Eve! • Rejoice, height hard to climb for human thoughts! • Rejoice, depth hard to contemplate even for the eyes of Angels! • Rejoice, thou who art the King's throne! • Rejoice, thou who bearest Him who bears all! • Rejoice, star that causest the Sun to appear! • Rejoice, womb of the divine incarnation! • Rejoice, thou through whom creation becomes new! • Rejoice, thou through whom the Creator becomes a babe! • Rejoice, unwedded bride!”
The Mother of God embraced her vocation in a perfect way. Her “fiat” made her a perfect steward of the many blessings she received.

From Bethlehem in the Holy Land, the Bannoura family of Bethlehem Handicrafts imports products from the Christian community of Bethlehem. They are pleased to share their family story and trade to all those who will be present after all Masses on January 14th & 15th.
As Joseph taught Christ the trade of carpentry in Nazareth, the Bannoura family passed the trade of olive wood artisanship from generation to generation until the present. They take great pride in this distinct and traditional craft, which is one of the principal sources of income for the small but resilient Christian community.
Each item for sale is handcrafted from olive wood with care and precision. Any number of items ranging from Nativity sets to Christmas ornaments will make ideal Christmas gifts for family, friends and coworkers. Other items such as statuettes and rosary beads will make for excellent Baptismal, First Communion and Confirmation gifts throughout the year.

Prayer Shawl
Are you or someone you know going through a difficult time, and are in need of comfort? A Prayer Shawl is like a comforting hug to anyone in need. Prayer strips can be kept in a pocket or purse, and give comfort in a situation where a prayer shawl is too large or inappropriate. Both are creat-ed lovingly and prayerfully by mem-bers of the Prayer Shawl ministry and are blessed.
We need volunteers to help make shawls on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. in the Christi Center or on your own. For more information, contact Loreen Vaughn at [email protected].

J.O.Y. Ministry
The J.O.Y. Ministry takes communion to Catholic patients at Sky Ridge Hospital 365 days a year. We are in
need of additional volunteers.
You are needed to help your fellow parishioners by taking them Holy Communion following the Sunday Mass you attend. The parish receives a number of requests for assistance—some long term while others for a week or two.
If you would like to give of yourself to patients in need and can give up to an hour of your time once or twice a month, please contact Ken Hood at 303-596-7605.

Baptismal Garments
We honor the children baptized in our Parish by embroidering their name on a baptismal garment. Once full, the garment is framed and displayed at Pax Christi.
