Our God, our help in ages pastBy Isaac Watts (1791)

O God, our help in ages past,Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throneYour saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Your arm alone,And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting You are God,To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Your sightAre like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the nightBefore the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,Soon bears us all away;

We fly, forgotten, as a dreamDies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,Our hope for years to come,

Still be our guard while troubles last,And our eternal home.

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah by William Williams, (1745)

Guide me, O my great Redeemer,Pilgrim through this barren land.I am weak, but You are mighty;

Hold me with Your powerful hand.Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven,

Feed me now and evermore;Feed me now and evermore.

Open now the crystal fountain,Whence the healing waters flow;

Let the fire and cloudy pillarLead me all my journey through.

Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,Ever be my Strength and Shield;Ever be my Strength and Shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,Bid my anxious fears subside;

Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction,Land me safe on Canaan’s side.

Songs of praises, songs of praises,I will ever sing to You;I will ever sing to You.

Take my Life and let it beFrances Ridley Havergal (1874)

Take my life and let it beconsecrated, Lord, to thee.

Take my moments and my days;let them flow in endless praise,let them flow in endless praise.

Take my hands and let them moveat the impulse of thy love.

Take my feet and let them beswift and beautiful for thee,swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me singalways, only, for my King.

Take my lips and let them befilled with messages from thee,filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold;not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect and useevery power as thou shalt choose,every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it thine;it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart it is thine own;it shall be thy royal throne,it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pourat thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself, and I will beever, only, all for thee,ever, only, all for thee.

Time is a resource and as Economist will reckonwith all resources, it is scarce. Scarce because it isboth limited and measured. Time is a measuredresource, outside the control or allotment of anyHuman. It is this featured characteristic of Timethat makes its utilization and allotment bothcrucial and critical.

God created Time and He measures a span of Timeto everyone and everything. According to theScriptures and about the creating of time, theBible says, “And God said, Let there be lights in thefirmament of the heaven to divide the day fromthe night; and let them be for signs, and forseasons, and for days, and years: (Gen. 1:14 KJV) itis this declaration that set in motion the elementso now described as Time and about everythingthere is a season and a time for every purposeunder Heaven. (Eccl. 3:1 KJV)

About Time, we must understand that God isdefinite and intentional about its purpose, theaxial arrangement of the lights in the firmament ofthe heaven is to divide day from night and theculminate effect is for signs, and for seasons, andfor days, and years.

God so divide and allot the days or years so willmay number, assign, record and account for theusage of the Time allotted to each of us.

About Time allotment, the Psalmist says, “Youreyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordainedfor me were written in your book before one ofthem came to be.” (Psalm 139:16 NIV)This ispertinent for our cognitive recognition andcontemplation. There are days ordained for everyone of us documented in God’s book ever beforewe use any of them.

Akin to a lump sum of money deposited in a bankaccount, we each draw down on the Time allottedto us without insight of how much was depositedand how much is remaining. It is the uncertainbrevity, scarcity or limited availability of Time thatmust heighten our conscious and rational use of it.Time is short.

It is how and for what we used our allotted Timeversus our divinely ordained assignment from thebeginning (by God) that will ultimately validate ifone used well or wasted the Time. This noticemust direct a sober and serious outlook of howhad used and we manage whatever is left of ourTime.

The Bible says something of worth that we mustobserve; “teach us to number our days, that wemay apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12KJV)

This notice is a call and a caution to awaken us tointelligently (spiritually) assign the utilization ofour Time consistent with its divinely assigned andintended purpose.

As a tree planted by the waters that one mayproduce the appropriate fruit in its Season. TheTime of our lives is chronologically arraigned toattain or produce predetermined fruit at a settime organized and ordained by God and Hewould appraise our lives to see if we are keepingto Time according to His divine calendar.

It is upon the backdrop that we must awake to“what time is it” as we approach and crossoverinto the New Year. What is the Fruit for this (New)Season allotted to me? About Jerusalem, she didnot know and Jesus wept for her. (Luke 19:41-44KJV) As we crossover into the New Year, may wegain the heart of Wisdom to number, assign andutilize the year now given. Happy New Year

Olusanya Adewusi

And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thychildren within thee; and they shall not leave in theeone stone upon another; because thou knewest notthe time of thy visitation. (Luke 19:44 KJV)

As believers we face various trials and challenges but wemust be well equipped to handle them. Gates are places ofauthority and decision making, a place where one’s lifedirection can be changed or determined - work, hospital,family, marriage. God has made accessible to us His children;an Arrow manifested to save us from every evil voicespeaking against us at our gates.

The effects of God’s Arrow:1) Lightning – An awareness or illumination of one’s spirit tobring insight or a way of escape out of a challengingsituation. Ps 144:6, Hab.3:11

2) Guidance - To lead us into a path of salvation. Exo 13:21,Luke 1:74-79 (KJV)

3) Blind the enemy from seeing the way of escape Hecreated for us. Exo.14:19-20

God’s Word (Ps 119:130), Jesus (Jn 8:12) is His arrow of God’ssalvation and with Him in our lives we are equipped to live afruitful life. He delivers us from all evil reports andreflections of the enemy. Is 49:25-26‘Beloved, it is because of you (and me) that Christ was bornthat day in the City of David; A Savior. He came as God’sdefending Arrow to save us.’
