In 2002, China is the most populous country in the world and India, the second most populous. India gains population rapidly and eclipses China in total population in 2037.

Half of the world’s more developed countries (MDCs), including those in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, are expected to experience population declines over the next 50 years. The United States is the only MDC expected to be among the ten most populous countries in 2050.

MDCs will experience aging populations, while LDCs will have a “youth bulge.” Nearly 50% of the world’s population could be less than 18 years old by 2020.

Region 10 has

• The highest membership (but probably not for much longerunless we do something !!!!)

• The highest % of students,

• The highest % of female members,

• Very large diversity,

• Increased membership by 20,000 - NOT PROGRESSING!

• Operate in one more country - DONE,• Have increased proportion of volunteers at

the HQ level at RAB, TAB, EAB, Standards and Pubs: - SOME SUCCESS

• Increased benefits for the members - We need to do something!

HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST YEAR

• Introduction of Industry related Awards• LINK program by Kerala Section to solve the

problem of inactive student branches• Several Awards from HQ for our volunteers• IEEE in a New Country - Vietnam• Very successful R10 Student Congress

WHAT DO WE NEED TO DEAL WITH IN 2008?

• No Growth in 2007 (a small loss in fact),• Too small number of Higher Grade Members,• Financial Constrains: Decreased Income for R10

while costs of travel increased and # of Sections significantly increased…….

• Inactive Student Branches, 37%• Need for extra benefits of IEEE Membership

– (eg IEEE Credit Card for India)
