Armer, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, is a professor at the Sinclair School of Nursing, director of Nursing Research at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, and director for the Ameri- can Lymphedema Framework Project. She has conducted extensive work in the areas of lymphedema prevalence, signs and symptoms, anthropometric measurement, and self- management among breast cancer survivors; fatigue among persons with lymphedema; and self-management of chronic illness. Armer has also been principal investigator of three studies funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Institute for Nursing Research examining limb volume change, symptoms, and impact of psychosocial outcomes among breast cancer survivors. She has published more than 85 research articles in the refereed literature, more than 40 of which are focused on lymphedema, and the major- ity of which report original research. She is also certified as a lymphedema therapist trained through the Lerner Institute on Lymphatic Studies. In 1998, Armer called together a multidisciplinary group of dedicated oncology clini- cians and researchers to form a lymphedema research team at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, an integral partner in the Academic Health Sciences Center at the University of Missouri. She serves on the Medical Advisory Committee of the National Lymphedema Network, where she has chaired the research committee, and is on the board of the Lymphology Association of North America, the professional certifying board for lymph- edema therapists. Armer is the director of the American Lymphedema Framework Project, a national partnership with the International Lymphedema Framework (ILF). She was the nurse research lead on the Oncology Nursing Society Putting Evidence into Practice (PEP) systematic literature review on management of lymphedema in 2008, and in 2009 was invited to present to the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) panel on imperatives for moving the field forward in research and practice in secondary lymphedema. Jane M. Dr. Armer graduated from the Mennonite School of Nursing in 1976, and receiced MCN’s highest honor, the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1991.We hope you can attend as many events as your schedule permits. “Reflections on Becoming a Successful Nurse Researcher— My Personal Journey”

Speaker: Jane M. Armer ’76, Ph.D., RN, FAAN 1991 Distinguished Alum, Mennonite College of Nursing 5:30 p.m.—Prairie Room, Bone Student Center

The first Candlelighting Ceremony at the Mennonite College of Nursing was initiated by the Class of 1992. This event gives students a time to pause during their busy schedules, and recommit themselves to nursing careers and to establish social and supportive relationship with other students. The Candlelighting Ceremony is one of the most emotionally moving and memorable traditions at MCN, and was re-established at Illinois State University in 2005. This event is sponsored by the Student Nurses Association.

Friday, April 26 Attention, Alumni who are celebrating

their 50th Reunion (or more!): Join us for a Golden Jubilee Celebration!

This event will honor nursing alumni whose classes graduated 50 or more years ago. The dean and alumni board president will make some brief remarks, followed

by a special pinning ceremony. Light refreshments will be provided.
