PORTFOLIO
JANA KILIANOVA
2013
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter in order to outline my motivation and qualification for becoming
an architectural intern in your studio.
I have recently graduated in architecture at Brno University of Technology in Czech
Republic and wish to apply for a placement within your company that may be financed
by the Leonardo da Vinci programme which I am involved in.
I have already spent a year abroad during Erasmus programme. I was attending the
International Master in Sint-Lucas Architecture in Ghent, Belgium that was focused on
sustainability and I was collaborating with students from all over the world. Therefore I
am eager to learn and prepared to adapt myself to new working situations.
During my studies of architecture I have not only worked on school projects but I have
participated in international workshops where I have learnt team collaboration and pa-
tience. Also, I have attended several competitions where I gained excellent outcomes.
The last achievement is with the master thesis titled Activation of pioneer camps when
I was awarded the Milan Stehlik prize.
As you can see in my enclosed CV, I have work experience that influenced positive-
ly my personal and professional development. I gained the necessary computer and
handicraft skills, a great dedication to team work and responsibility. Effort to learn
throughout my career and diligence in paying attention to detail are the qualities I also
possess.
I would like to deepen my architectural knowledge in the inspiring and creative environ-
ment of your studio and would welcome the opportunity to introduce myself during
an interview.
Thank you for your consideration of my application. I am looking forward to hearing
from you.
Yours faithfully,
Jana Kilianova

ACTIVATION OF PIONEER CAMPS master‘s thesis

award 2nd prize The best master thesis
Diploma thesis has an ambition to offer an access to solve so-
ciety questions that do not tackle only architectural problems
but the deeper ones - educational, existential.
I compare the most advanced and the most prestigious edu-
cational systems in the world and I use the results for creating
better pedagogical system in the CZ that will reflect the chan-
ges of society.
I use a network of disintegrated former pioneer basecamps
and change them into educational areas used during whole
school year.
Reactivation in order to strengthen czech education.
I transform one former camp to demonstrate it as an example
applicable to others.

VENALICIUM semester project
year autumn 2011
where Gent, Belgium
The concept of using ambulant ‘water’markets enforces the use
of Gent’s many waterways and aims to stimulate the growth of
some neglected areas at the outskirts of the city.
A program involves
-a port for floating market
-storagespaces for stocking good
-rent-out rooms
-services such as public toilets, bike storage
-station for water transportation with facilities
-social housing.
I demolish an existing building that does not fit into the area and
create better connection from water canal to the Korenmarkt
square. The facade is made by corten which chnages with aging
therefore the buildings will fit into its historical surroundings.

CONCEPT
FLOATING MARKETS=GLOBAL STRATEGY
OMA
The concept of using ambulant ‘water’markets enforces the use of Ghent’s many water-ways and aims to stimulate the growth of some neglected areas at the outskirts of the city where markets are hard to reach or don’t even exist. A system of movable market-types can be put in place so each day some products can be found at a specific location throughout Ghent. Sellers arrive at the marketsite through the use of boats, which allows easy access and a quick cleanup period afterwards. The locations for the floating mar-kets are also closely connected to the planned water transportation system.

THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES Student Centre Porici bachelor´s project
year spring 2011
where Brno, Czech Republic
Urban-architectural concept of north-east part of specified
city block in Brno with the function corresponding to the re-
quired needs of the faculties in the near of location.
The aim was to design building for housing 200 students and
canteen for students in faculties around. Other functions that I
added were student club, exhibition hall and spaces for supp-
orting creativity and sport opportunities.
Concept is based on change of the place in long time. The
place which is along the Svratka river. Vanished objects co-
nnected with phenomenon of water in near surrounding were
crucial for my concept. I designed the shape of the building by
lines connecting the lot with disappeared objects. The shape
supported the best in area around and also reduced noise from
huge traffic around.
A lot that is along the Svratka river. It has
never been build-up by a valuable buildings.
Abondoned.
Water is a very strong element that is cru-
cial for life.
Vanished historical objects around ,linked
to water, were connected with the lot.
These lines determined a final shape of
building. The shape was chosen carefully to
ensure healthy environment for people and
at the same time protect them from noise
around.
A ground floor is the most build-up floor
designed for public utilities.
It provides a sufficient dispersal area for
better connection with spaces inside.
Reducing of noise from huge traffic around
and creating a green oasis from the roof of
ground floor.
Housing units needed for demand that re-
duce noise even better and provide a par-
tial shelter for green oasis.

ECO-FARM FOR AGRITOURISM semester project
year autumn 2009
where Brno, Czech Republic
award 2nd prize for The best student work
The plot was chosen carefully in the outskirts of Brno. The
land is used for farming and its south orientation is perfect for
farming.
The farm occupies very small part of the lot. It is divided into 4
self-contained buildings set around a central courtyard.
The farm is aimed on sheep farming that produces milk and
wool and on planting of eco-products.
The project consists of a family house with a shop and hos-
ting rooms for visitors, a stable for 40 sheep, a building for
agricultural equipment and a glasshouse.

year spring 2012
where Gent, Belgium
collaboration T. Stroobants, Gonzalo Nava, M. Calderone
A forbidden plot, in a vicinity full of immigrants, located be-
tween the railway station and a busy street. Noise is everywhere.
It is made by passing trains or buses. We change noise into
sound by a visual relationship between the source of the noise
and the spectator. We created a garden for emphasizing sound
by nature.
When train is passing, the air is moving and so do the plants.
Connection - Visualization - Regeneration.
Whole plot is changing through seasons. Spring flowers die and
summer flowers grow therefore pathways are different every
season.
Existing building is reconsructed for meeting the needs of peo-
ple and children living there.

where Brno, Czech Republic
The 1975 square metre site is located on the top of the former
quarry. It provides spectacular views over the city of Brno.
On the other hand the house is a little bit hidden in between
trees.
Designed as nature friendly for a big family that consists of 7
members. Everyone has its own intimate space.
Beekeeper´s garden house is located around grown tree next
to the house and is used as warehouse for his tools and his
roof as children‘s play area.

year spring 2012
where Gent, Belgium
collaboration A. Koten, D. Gruwez, M. De Craene
Revitalization of an old small building at a bank of a sport canal.
The building is used very rarely for rowing competitions.
After thorough site and demography analysis we found a new
and better use for surrounding.
We design a community centre for inhabitants which will be
used during competitions as a background for competitors,
jurymen and reporters.
We use an existing structure as much as possible and we crea-
te a self-sufficient building using natural energy and sustainable
materials.
