O F F I C I A L H S E P U B L I C A T I O N O F D Y N A - M A C H O L D I N G S L T D
Another year had passed and we are
now on our 5th edition of the HSE Newsletter.
We are just as excited in delivering all the
best in events that had took place in Dyna-
Mac. In this edition, we have lined-up our
viewpoints to update your information.
Importance of your health is further
elaborated, tackling sensitive issues present
in the industry. We move on further in
bringing you the latest update on Risk
Management to buffer the workforce of
what is ahead.
The good year begins with celebrations
of zero LTI man hours milestones for project
Tullow TEN, strike steels for project
Bumi Armada Berhad and Catcher
Development. To kick start the year, a
rescue drill has been rolled out to test HSE
capabilities and finally a short deviation on
improvements that we need to maintain
were discussed. We are convinced that this
reading material will aid in a balanced work
atmosphere to direct us in our quest for zero
harm zero incidents.

HSE NEWSLETTER
THE MINISTRY OF MANPOWER (MOM) HAD
ANNOUNCED THAT ALL NEW AND EXISTING
REGISTERED MOBILE CRANES USED IN
WORKPLACE ARE TO BE EQUIPPED WITH DATA
LOGGERS FOLLOWING SERIES OF INCIDENTS
THAT HAD OCCURRED IN SINGAPORE.
The announcement has been made on the 14th of
April 2015 and will take shape in two phases. The
mandatory requirement requires all existing mobile
cranes to be retrofitted with data loggers before 1st
August 2018 and beginning from 1st August 2015 for new
mobile cranes. The Workplace Safety and Health
Council (WSHC) is set to launch a co- funding scheme
to cover the cost of retro fitting existing mobile cranes.
Under this scheme, crane owners can apply for funding
up to 50% of the cost to a maximum of $S 5,000 per
crane. While other industries are suiting up to prepare
the effect, it is best to gear up and brace for the
impact. Alertness to such updates keep us better
organized and more so, subsequent implementation
assures clear cut compliance.
Demanding as it is, the shipbuilding and ship repair
regulations mandates to warrant the industry in producing
a functional and practical structure of its protocols. It
comes with hefty loss in other companies and had yielded
higher operation cost with more incident occurrence,
meaning there is no substitute to safety and an
implementation is predominant unless demonstrated
practically and effective. Can we learn something from it,
the answer is yes. Line up of HSE activities and planning of
what is ahead makes a simple and practical solution. The
companies guiding principle (the OHSE Policy) will
make it conceivable and achievable through:
Collaboration; makes it effective yet practical in a
sense. Organizing the workforce to be involved in
rehearsals with HSE events creates awareness more than
visual representations. Our mind works more with
involvement and the experience sets in the mind.
Facilitation; is a role and median for both HSE and
workforce which works well and has to be executed as
articulated by the regulation.
Preparation; in general are efforts made through
collaboration and facilitation, is just as effective as its
prearrangement thus we begin earnest we finish worthy.

Your Health Matters FOCUS ON INNER STRENGTH
YOUR HEALTH MATTERS, IT IS YOUR
INVESTMENT, AND ENSURING THAT YOUR
INTEREST IS WORKING FOR YOU, YOUL’LL HAVE
TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT.
The Ministry of Manpower has always been
promoting the health of workers through various
campaigns that are notable in most industries island
wide. Likewise, a campaign to monitor the health
condition and welfare of the workers is principal but yet
a spot that most of the companies are striving to
muddle through with necessary means. Occupational
disease is a serious issue and has superfluous impact
with efficiency, stressing that the health of the worker is
an essential prerequisite to productivity. To mitigate
areas generally acquainted to both Non-Communicable
Disease (NCD) and Communicable Disease (CD), strong
and reliable scheme must be in place. Our implementation
is prevent and management, where sources are identified
and inhibited to prevent CD. NCD depicts in various forms
as cancer, heart disease, cataracts, NID etc. early
detection equals timely treatment and better chance of
having a normal life. Early signs of diseases are not to be
neglected, consequence could lead from serious to worst
had it not treated in early stages. Regular visits to your
doctor is advisable if you are exposed to harsh conditions
and heed advices following proper medications. Our
medical clinic is capable in early detection of NCD or CD,
other alternative is to live a healthy lifestyle eating healthy
foods and avoiding consumption of too much alcohol and
fatty products.

YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY ONE COPING WITH
STRESS, PROFESSIONALS EXPOSED TO LONG
PERIOD OF WORKS AND PRESSURE FROM
THEIR MENTORS ARE LIKELY A SUFFERER.
There is no way that you can escape the synopsis of
a modern technical world. However there are ways
that you can deal with it .
Stress is the body's reaction to any change that
requires an adjustment or response. The body reacts to
these changes with physical, mental, and emotional
responses and without relief, it can lead to a condition
called distress.
Distress can demonstrate in physical symptoms such
as upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain
and sleeping disorder. Unfortunately, tobacco and
alcohol is not an answer to relieve stress and would not
provide any good benefits in association with it.
While other people do creative things like arts and
crafts and some engage into meditation however, few
person would find it inaccessible.
If you found neither suggestions are interesting, and
you just want to relax, spa and massage are best for
you. Pamper yourself with the aroma and caress of
skillful masseurs in a place that is designed to create the
Zen or atmosphere of a resort set-up. It is easy to find
one in Singapore and chances are you may have
walked pass one in your community before you return
home, try it!
The benefits? Improved blood circulation which is
essential to the function of our internal organs and our
mind. If our mind is in a good state, we become more
confident with our self and confidence is vital to stay in
a game we call professionalism.

The WSH council came up with a revised Code of
Practice for Risk Management version 2.0. and was
released on 05th of February 2015. Some of the new
amendments include roles and responsibilities of the
human resource manager, defined principles of risk
management and health factors consideration.
The organization will proceed to review where areas
are affected to ensure that existing Risk Assessment will
remain valid before the next review. Meanwhile the HSE
department will study the application of the new Code
of Practice to adopt it with our current practice.
Information will be disseminated for reference and
guidance.

We have demonstrated such
abilities for project Tullow TEN on
the 2nd of February 2015 with a

situations although the actual
scenario is better coordinated, it is
Important to take note that the key
word is preparedness. Patrons likes to
observe what HSE is capable off and
ensures that essential HSE aspects
are in place. Loosing that conviction
will create an impact in our future

seriously and organize to develop
the best set up for each project.

FALLS ARE A COMMONPLACE KIND OF ACCIDENT.
THEY CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH SO
TAKE FALL PREVENTION SERIOUSLY.
Housekeeping is often set aside in construction phase
and frequently leads to slips, trips and fall. Most of these
falls occur on the same level. This means it does not
involve falling from height above ground level. Instead,
most falls occur from slipping on a slick surface, or tripping
over an object. Mismanagement of materials is the
number one factor followed by inconsiderate personnel
using the work space.
Keeping the walkway dry and free from materials will
prevent workers from tripping or falling. Materials must
be stacked in a manner where the weight are evenly
distributed. Creating a space or passageway where
personnel can gain access easily is equally necessary.
With additional safety precaution such as, adding of
barricade, we can say that we have avoided a
looming accident.

ACCIDENTS HAPPEN JUST AS EASILY WITH
STEPLADDERS AS WITH OTHER TYPES OF
EQUIPMENTS, AND THE CONSEQUENCES CAN BE
JUST AS SERIOUS.
The most common type of accident was when the
ladder tipped over sideways. These accidents are caused
by reaching out too far to one side, causing an
unintended movement of the ladder. Other causes of
stepladder accidents include placing the foot incorrectly,
tripping and slipping, defective ladders and makeshift
repairs, or failing to fold out the ladder properly, however
there are tips to prevent such occurrence and they are;
- Inspect the stepladder to see if it is in good condition
before using it. Also check that the spreaders, look for any
twisting or bends in the shape of the ladder.
- Place the ladder on a solid, even surface. If you must
position the ladder in a doorway or another traffic area,
make sure the route is adequately barricaded to prevent
collisions.
- Lock the spreaders into place before ascending the
ladder, and make sure the stepladder legs are fully open.
- Never climb onto the top two rungs of a stepladder. If
you need to climb higher, get a longer ladder.
- Wear slip-resistant footwear when working on any
ladder, and make sure that both your footwear and the
rungs are free of grease, oil, ice or other substances which
might cause you to slip.
