The Four Keys of Faith FormationThe Four Keys are provided to help you nourish your child’s/grandchild’s faith.Scripture Readings for the Third Weekend after the Epiphany:

Jonah 3:1-5, 10; Psalm 62:5-12; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; Mark 1:14-20Family Devotions: Read the text from Mark. Jesus’ ministry begins with the call of disciples, who then bring othersto Jesus. Philip’s friend Nathanael moves from skepticism to faith when he accepts the invitation to “come and see.”

Caring Conversation: Discuss in your household or small group: Have you given up something to follow Jesus?Share your story. What did Simon, Andrew, James, and John give up to follow Jesus? How do you think they felt? What does it mean to be a “fisher of people”?

Family Service: As Lutherans, we believe that we respond to what we have heard through the Good News of thelife, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Good works (good fruit) happens, and we do not even know about it. As parents, you can “create” opportunities for your kids to learn aboutservice, with the understanding that service is not a “have-to” but rather a “get-to” – a “response-to.” Having heardthe Gospel preached, we move beyond ourselves, caring for our neighbor. Think about the Scripture verses for the week and the conversations you have shared. God has gifted you and your children with abilities, personalities, and certain qualities. As a parent, family member, or friend, you can help them discover their uniquegifts by encouraging them in the things that they do well and feel passionate that they can serve others.

Family Traditions and Rituals: Read Psalm 62 together. God is referred to as a “rock.” Together, find larger rocksthat you can write on with a marker. Write the words “God is my rock” on them and place them in places wherethey will be a helpful reminder of God...our rock and our redeemer.

The muggers are people who deliver a welcome gift (a Holy CrossCoffee Mug) to those who are visiting Holy Cross for the first time. Here's how it works: a list is generated by the office, you are given

the names & addresses of those who are being "mugged," and you deliver to their home that week.

It is a simple but powerful way to extend a welcome to those who have visited. The hope is to have enough volunteers that you will be asked to serve only once every 2 months.
