    Despitethenationalcrisis,a

    pendinghurricaneandrumorsof"disturbances"atFloridathemeparks,AudubonAssembly2001wasanoverwhelmingsuccesswithover450peoplefrom42chapters,NationalAudubonandAudubonofFloridastaff,andguestspeakersandguests.ThisismorethantwicetheattendanceforAssembly2000.Itwasapackedagendawithtwentyworkshops,twelvefield-trips,andkeynoteaddressesby

    SenatorBobGraham,GovernorJebBush,andSecretaryofDCASteveSeibert.SecretaryofDEPDavidStruhswasthereaswell.GovernorBushtoldtheAssem-blythatheiscommittedtofull(andpermanent)fundingforEver-gladesrestorationandnoreductioninfundsforP-2000orForeverFlorida.EarlierSenatorGrahaminformedusthatfundingwasin

    placefortherestorationoftheApalachicolaRiver,andthat$200millionwasbeingappropriatedfortheComprehensiveEvergladesRestorationPlan.DisneyandSea-Worldwerethehostsponsorsforeveningevents.ApalacheeAudubonsPresident,

    CornellLaboratoryofOrni-

    thology,isasnapshotofwherethebirdsarethroughoutNorthAmericaduringthecoldestperiodofthewinter.Everyonescontribution,whetheritisaveryfewbirds,ormany,isimportantbecauseitallcontributestothebigpic-

    ture.Lastyearmorethan53,000checklistsweresubmit-ted!ThemostcommonbirdseennationwidewastheMourningDovefollowedbytheNorthernCardinal,Dark-

    eyedJunco,AmericanCrow,andBlueJay.Countthebirdsinyourback-yard,localpark,orothernaturalareaonanyofthefourcountdays.Watchyourbirdfeeders,ortakeashortwalk(lessthan1mile)inyourneighborhoodorpark.Toavoidrecountingthesamebirdmakingrepeatedvis-
