The story of Jamo begins in the Danish fishing village of

Glyngøre. The year is 1966, and Preben Jacobsen, a carpen-

ter, decides to start building loudspeakers in his little hen-

house. He has a passion for good craftsmanship and fine sound,

and produces superbly designed loudspeakers with the aid of

the latest acoustic technologies. However, he is somewhat less tal-

ented at selling so his brother-in-

law, Julius Mortensen, enters the

picture in 1968, bringing with

him his export experience,

gained in the fishing industry.

Jacobsen and Mortensen:

Jamo. The stage is set for an

adventure to begin.

In the years since then, Jacobsen's little henhouse has grown to become a

30,000m2 / 300.000 sq.ft state-of-the-art factory while Jamo is now

Europe's biggest manufacturer of loudspeakers. At the same time, cus-

tomer demands have become more individual and challenging. Which is

lucky for us because developing new solutions is a daily source of inspira-

tion in our work. Much has changed, but the soul and the driving force

behind Jamo is still the same: we want to develop and build products that

make a difference to people's lives, that connect on an emotional level.

What is good sound? There's no simple answer to that

question because good sound is a highly subjective expe-

rience. Not only do we respect that fact – we consciously

base our work upon it. This is clearly expressed in the prom-

ise that lies at the foundation of our work and our success:

Jamo will create sound solutions that make a difference to

the individual. This promise is built into all Jamo's products.

You can hear it in our unrivalled sound quality. And you can see

it in the stylish finish that characterises every single detail.

Jamo's products are based on the Danish design tradition of sim-

plicity and functionality. We care about the complete solution, not

just the sound. In this catalogue, we hope you will notice both the

details and the harmonious integrity that characterises Jamo

products. They have been carefully developed, designed and manu-

factured to provide you with a unique experience. Or in other

words: Jamo will make a difference to you.

Design CabinetThe NCC (Non-Coloration Compound) front is a special construc-tion of sand and a resonance-reducing binding agent that is pro-duced under high pressure, embedding the individual grains ofsand in the binding agent. This construction prevents loudspeakervibrations being transmitted to the cabinet, or from drive unit todrive unit, and provides increased detail and better-defined bass.

This technique also allows designs that would not be possible with conventional materials, thus optimizing visual appearance as well as acoustic properties.

The cabinet is crafted in massive 25 mm / 1” thick MDF board and finished with lacquered, genuine wood veneer that ensuresoptimal acoustic properties and a high-class appearance.

Magnesium coneDesigning a loudspeaker cone involves striking an optimal balance between stiffness and low weight. The stiffer the cone, the more effective the bass becomes. And the lighter thecone, the more dynamic reproduction becomes. Magnesium combines stiffness and low weight, resulting in highly effectiveand dynamic reproduction.

Copper centre plugThe massive copper centre plug of the magnesium loudspeaker cone replaces the traditional dust cap, making the conelighter and faster, and preventing anypossibility of sonic break-up. It also pre-vents pressure-swings behind the dustcap when the cone moves, enablingmore dynamic and precise soundreproduction. The copper centreplug also cools the voice coil, pro-viding greater power-handlingcapability and very stable soundreproduction no matter howhigh you turn the volume.

XBRWith the unique Jamo XBR (eXtended Bass Response) feature, the surround loudspeaker functions as a dipole in the treble and midrange, and as a bipole in the lowest bass, providing the diffuse surround reproduction of traditional dipole loudspeakers, but with full bass reproduction.

Dual concentric diaphragmThe totally unique tweeter features a clamped dual-concentricdiaphragm and ventilated magnet system. Among other benefits, this extends the frequency range from a very low 1kHz, allowing a smooth and seamless transition with the midrange, and then allthe way up to 40kHz, making it compatible with new digital multi-channel sound formats.

The voice coil is copper-plated aluminium wire, combining thelow weight of aluminium with the superior conducting qualities of copper, and making magnetic oil for cooling and resonancedamping unnecessary.

MFB (Motional feedback)When a large woofer has been abruptly driven by a strong sonicimpulse such as an explosion or a timpani, the woofer continuesmoving after the impulse stops. The MFB circuit compares theimpulse to be reproduced with the actual movement of thewoofer. If the woofer moves unnaturally in relation to the inputsignal, the MFB circuit corrects the error before it becomes audi-ble. Furthermore, the MFB makes it possible to equalize the sub-woofer to go deeper without losing any precision. The result isincredibly accurate, deep bass, full of punch and dynamics.

Alu Centre plugThe aluminium centre plugreplaces the traditional dustcap, making the cone lighterand faster. This also preventssonic break-up as well aspressure swings behind thedust cap as the cone moves, resulting in more dynamicand precise sound reproduc-tion. The aluminium centreplug cools the voice coil, pro-viding increased power-hand-ling capability and stablesound reproduction no mat-ter how loud you play.

DesignThe D 7 is a THX Ultra2 system designed for integration in a 'real world' living room. As well as being the most compact Ultra2system in the world, it is also designed to look good in its ownright, with a fully integrated feel to every aspect (a prime examplebeing the aluminium tube from the floor stand that continuesvisually in the design of the speakers).

CabinetsThe cabinets are crafted in MDF (Medium-Density Fibre) board, a heavy, resonance-damping material that preventssound coloration.

DesignThe flat horizontal design (only 15 cm/6 in deep) makes it very easy to integrate a real high-performance cinema systeminto a living room. Despite its compact dimensions, the D 6SUBfeatures a massive 15” woofer that delivers thunderous bass allthe way down to 28 Hz.

Down-firing wooferThis unique feature minimizesone of the major barriers to good sound reproduction. Toavoid boomy bass reproduction, loudspeakers must normally beplaced well away from the wall – often impractical in many living rooms. When a woofer fires

downwards it couples with the floor, making placement less criti-cal. In other words, this speaker can be placed close to the wall.

CabinetThe D 5 design offers a cabinet that is larger than it looks, whilethe arched shape also dampens standing waves. The cabinetsides are of a unique sandwich structure, consisting of an MDFboard with longitudinal grooves and a fibre board. Extremelyrigid, the cabinet features internal bracing that makes it sonicallyinert and prevents unwanted vibrations from colouring the sound.

D’Appolitto configurationThe symmetrical configuration of two midranges and a tweetercontrols the sound dispersion, i.e. wider horizontal dispersionmakes the listening position less critical, while higher verticalfocusing results in fewer reflections from floor and ceiling.

DesignElegant, ellipse-shaped design gives the D 570 and D 590 a distinc-tive sculptured appearance, whileensuring minimum reflection andinert cabinets.

The cabinet shape also provides an optimal environment for thedown-firing woofer, enabling it toreproduce even the lowest frequen-cies from, e.g., a cathedral organ.

Double Curved Front baffleThe most rigid construction of all is a roundshape. Cut from a giant ball, the DoubleCurved front baffle of the D 4 is a foamedABS shell mounted on an MDF board. Bothmaterials have excellent acoustic propertiesthat provide high internal damping, whilepreventing vibrations from travelling fromone driver to another. The planar design

also provides optimal working conditions for the asymmetricallyplaced tweeter. Due to the asymmetrical design, no distancesfrom cabinet top and sides to the tweeter are identical, and thusedge reflections do not accumulate. The result is a crystal-clear treble reproduction that is essential for conveying from theextended treble content of new multi-channel sound formats.

SpikesThe easily adjustable spikes (includedwith D 450 and D 4FS) ensure that thespeaker always stands securely, making a good mechanical contact to the floor. The speaker can also be placed on therubber supports, if required.

DesignForm follows function andelegance combined withtechnology are the keywordsfor D 4. The slimline designand choice of finishes makesit easy to integrate thesespeakers in any home. With itsflat-profile design and high-end reproduction quality, theD 400 is the perfect match forany flat screen.

Mineral/paper coneDue to its light weight, paper has always been an excellentmaterial for loudspeaker cones. To obtain a stiff cone with optimal internal damping, the paper is reinforced with mineralfibres. The increased rigidity makes flat, exponential cone designpossible, allowing the woofer to cover a wide frequency rangeand thus enable a very smooth transition with the tweeter. The result is a very precise quality of sound reproduction.

Subwoofer amplifierThe powerful E 8SUB amplifiersuse state-of-the-art SMD tech-nology. The advantages are shortsignal paths and electronics that are much more resistant toshocks and vibrations that ariseinside a subwoofer. The result isbetter sound and a moredurable subwoofer.

As an additional convenience feature, the subwoofer switches on and off automatically whenever it receives a signal from theA/V receiver.

MPD (MidrangePhase Diffusion)This unique Jamotechnology incor-porates a midrangeunit in oppositephase with a two-

way system on the other side of the surround loudspeaker. Thisprovides the diffuse surround reproduction typical of dipole loud-speakers, yet still gives the full bass reproduction that suchdesigns have traditionally lacked.

DesignCarefully considered Jamo design is evident in the E 8 serieswhere the lean, curvaceous linescreate a uniform visual identity, despite the differences in thesize and form of the individual loudspeakers.

CabinetsThe cabinets are crafted in MDF (Medium-DensityFibre) board, a heavy,resonance-dampingmaterial that preventssound coloration.

Subwoofer amplifier The powerful E 6SUB amplifier uses state-of-the-art SMD tech-nology. The advantages are short signal paths and electronicsthat are much more resistant to the shocks and vibrations thatarise inside a subwoofer. The result is better sound and highlydurable subwoofer.

As an additional convenience feature, the subwoofer switches on and off automatically whenever the subwoofer receives a signal from the A/V receiver.

MPD (Midrange Phase Diffusion)This unique Jamo technology incorporates a midrange unit inopposite phase with a two-way system on the other side of thesurround loudspeaker. This provides the diffuse surround repro-duction typical of dipole loudspeakers, yet still gives the full bassreproduction that such designs have traditionally lacked.

2 1/2 way configurationThis unique configuration (E 650 and E 6CEN) combines the bestof two- and three-way systems; the coherent and easy-flowingsound reproduction of a two-way system, with the extended bassresponse and power handling of a three-way system. This is doneby configuring the two-way system to reproduce the full frequen-cy range and then using an additional woofer to augment lowbass performance, a region where only greater cone area canmove air and handle the extra power.

Electronic overload protectionAn electronic PTC resistor automatically limits power to theloudspeaker if it becomes overloaded. When the volume isturned down again, the resistor cools down and the sound is restored to its normal level.

DesignThe timeless appearance of the E 6 series allows it to fit in almostanywhere. The combination of wood finish and a thick countersunkaluminium frame is a perfect com-plement to classy domestic interiorsworldwide. Look carefully and you'llsee that there are no screws visible. That's because they have been fullyintegrated into the design of thedrive-unit mounting rings.

The flat design of the E 6CEN makes it easy to position the cen-tre speaker. With its 2 1/2-way configuration for uncompromisingsound quality, it's an excellent choice.

AccessoriesE 825FS – These new stands are the perfect match for the bookshelfspeakers. While ensuring stable placement at the correct listeningheight, they are also easy to integrateinto your interior design since theycome in three different finishes.Integrated cable management is a standard feature.

Neodymium Dome TweeterNeodymium is a powerful magnetic material – 10 times morepowerful than a normal magnet.

Because the magnet can be reduced in size, it can be placedinside the voice coil of the loudspeaker unit, allowing the magnetic force to be concentrated around the voice coil – exactly where it is needed.

MIR (Magnetic Interference Reduction) E 530, 550 and 570This feature reduces magnetic radiation from the loudspeakers, making it possible to place them close to a TV without distortingthe picture tube. This is done by adding an extra magnet to thewoofer, which also increases sensitivity and thus delivers highersound pressure levels for the same amount of amplifier power. The E 500, E 5CEN.2 and E 5CEN.5 are all magnetically shielded.

Low-loss X-over. E 500, E 5CEN.2At Jamo, we design all our loudspeaker units in-house. Thismeans we can create individual drive units for specific purposesthat complement each other perfectly, thus reducing the needfor complex crossover filters with various compensation circuits.Limiting the number of components in the filter also reduces its power consumption (a complex filter can easily consume 10 -20% of the power supplied) The advantage of low-loss x-overs isclearer, cleaner sound reproduction, as well as lower distortionand higher sensitivity.

Low-cut X-overJust as small organ pipes cannot play deep bass, small speakersfind it difficult to reach the lowest notes. Instead of overloadingsmall speakers with bass signals that are beyond their ability toreproduce, the low-cut bass filter prevents the deepest bassfrom reaching the speakers. This protects the loudspeakeragainst overload, while also enabling a cleaner, more detailedreproduction of midrange and treble frequencies.

Electronic overload protectionAn electronic PTC resistor limits power to the loudspeaker if it becomes overloaded. When the volume is turned down again, the resistor cools down and the sound is restored to its normal level.

Subwoofer configuration E 5SUB.5Normally subwoofers feature bass reflex ports to extend bassresponse. However, at high sound pressure levels, port noise willoften occur due to the extremely high airflow through the port.

E 5SUB.5 features a powerful 8” long-throw woofer and an 8”passive radiator. The passive radiator eliminates all port noise, providing clean, deep and thunderous bass from the two front-firing drivers.

DesignThe classical, sturdy wood cabinets in the E 5series come in three finishes that blend easilywith any interior design. The mounting ringsensure that the drivers are elegantly and firmlyattached to the cabinet. Also, the tweetermounting ring features a slight horn loading of the tweeter. This extends the driver's fre-quency response and thus ensures a seamlesstransition with the other loudspeaker units.

AccessoriesE 805FS, E 825FS – Thesebrand new stands arethe perfect match forthe bookshelf speakers. While ensuring stableplacement at the cor-rect listening height, they are also the per-fect design match asthey come in three dif-ferent finishes.Integrated cable man-agement is a standard feature.

Bass reflex configurationA 5 series speakers feature an angled, rear-firing bass reflex port that uses the wall as an acoustic amplifier to increase bassresponse. This means that A 5 speakers can reproduce the full frequency range, despite their small size.

DesignBesides the effective two-way bass reflex system, the most remark-able thing about A 500 / A 510 is that it is low profile. With a depthof only 76mm / 3 in and 90 mm / 31/2 in, the loudspeaker simplyblends in with the wall – discreetly and beautifully. Subwoofer configurationSubwoofers normally have bass reflex ports to extend the bass. However, the flat, compact A 4SUB features a passive radiator that is incorporated in the design, totally eliminating port noise.

The powerful 8” long-throw woofer and the passive radiator areboth on the rear baffle of the subwoofer – thus firing into the wall or floor and further reinforcing bass reproduction.

Two-way system, A 410Despite the small size of the satellite speaker it features a two-way system – a woofer and a tweeter - that reproduces the mid-and upper range frequencies with full fidelity. The result is a verynatural sounding vocal quality.

DesignThe new A 3 speakers are an attrac-tive complement to any flat screendisplay, whether mounted on theirstands or on the wall. Removing thefront grills (except from A 305) givesthe speakers a modern contemporarylook; left on, the speakers becomeclassically discreet.

Multi-functional wall bracket (included)Mount the bracket – horizontally or vertically –with just two screws, then 'click' on the speaker.Because the bracket also conceals the speakerterminals it can make speaker cables totallyinvisible if they come out of the wall. In addition, the bracket for A 325, A 355 and A 3CEN.5 allowsthe speaker to be angled at up to 30 degreesfrom the horizontal, allowing the sound to beaimed precisely at the listening position.

Mix ‘n’ matchThe new A 3 comes in small, medium or large, making it possible to mix ‘n’ match A 3 speakers to suit your exact purposes, yet havespeakers that still complement each other sonically and visually.

Subwoofer operation (A 3SUB.5)The true challenge for a subwoofer is to accommodate personal preferences in any room, with any speakers. The A 3SUB.5 featureseasily accessible adjustment controls located on the front of the subwoofer, allowing instant adjustment of the bass level, phase and frequency range of the subwoofer to match the placement and size of the front speakers.

RadioThe radio tuner features 30 AM/FM presets and supports RDSwhere available. (Europe)

Full digital amplifierEliminates quality-sapping D/A and A/D conversion and thuskeeps all signal processing in the digital domain, maintaining the absolute highest level of sound quality. Because the full digital open-loop (non-feedback) amplifier is integrated with theDVD player, the same master clock controls both. The advantage is extremely low jitter, improving sonic imaging, transparency and minimising distortion.

Formats The DVD drive of Jamo DVR 50 accepts practically any opticalmedium available on the market today, from normal CDs to CD-R/RW as well as the latest DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs.

Formats from MP3 to JPEG (photo CDs) and the new DivX format are also supported. With DivX video compression format,a full movie can be played from just one CD-ROM, making DivX to movies what MP3 is to music. DTS, Dolby Digital and DolbyProLogic II sound formats are also supported.

Progressive scan A brand new feature, the component video outputs of Jamo DVR 50 support progressive scan – on both NTSC (USA ) and PAL(Europe) video signals. Progressive scan gives much smootherand better defined picture quality, exploiting the full potential of the latest screen technologies.

Acoustic match with the speakers The audio circuits of the Jamo DVR 50 are optimized to drive the Jamo A 2, A 3 and A 4 series speakers. For user convenience, three different sound modes enable simple changes to the tonal balance: a Neutral mode in which the sound is reproduced as itwas recorded, a Jamo Reference mode that complements the A 2,A 3 and A 4 speakers perfectly, and a Dynamic mode that provides"extra kick" when the party needs to get rocking.

Design The DVR 50 was designed with a distinctly Scandinavian look to match the new A 3 speakers, and visually harmonize with the A 2, A 4 and A 5 products. We think the result speaks for itself.Danish design ... manufactured in Denmark.

Easy set-up / operation Setting up the DVR 50 is easy. The factory default settings arebased on our vast experience of what settings provide the bestsound in most set-ups. However, it is also possible to go into amore advanced set-up menu to fine-tune the sound to personalpreferences. The basics are all taken care of though: just followthe quick on-screen set-up guide where pictures prompt you toselect a language, choose 16:9 or 4:3 picture format, and finallydecide on the connection to be used between the DVR 50 and the TV.

Day to day operation is equally logical: whether playing theradio, CD or DVD, the DVR 50 always selects the appropriatemode automatically.

Ergonomic Remote The remote control of the DVR 50 reflects Jamo's determinationto make the unit simple and logical to operate in everyday use.For instance, there are dedicated buttons for functions that are used daily, organized for easy use. So the up/down volumebuttons, for example, are easy to find in the darkness of a hometheatre. For less frequently used functions, the user simply acti-vates the list button for access to all the advanced features.Easy, simple ... the way it should be.

Horn tweeterThe huge horn tweeter is themost conspicuous feature of X 5.It delivers very high sensitivityand good sound dispersion, withminimal distortion of the treble – even at extremely high soundpressure levels. The improvedsound dispersion also makes thelistening position less important– the sound is exactly the samewhen listening off axis.

Low-loss X-overAt Jamo, we design all our loudspeaker units in-house. Thismeans individual units for exact purposes and units that complement each other perfectly, thus reducing the need forcomplex crossover filters with various compensation circuits.Limiting the number of components in the filter also reducesIts power consumption (an overly complex filter can easily con-sume 10 - 20% of the power supplied). The advantage of low-loss x-overs is clearer, cleaner sound reproduction, as well aslower distortion and higher sensitivity.

Side-firing wooferMounting the woofer on the side of the cabinet provides full bass response despite the slim design. Depending onplacement, it also enables different qualities of bass response.Placing the speakers with the two woofers facing each otherresults in natural bass reproduction, whereas placing thespeakers with the woofers firing outwards – into the corners of the room – results in a stronger, more emphatic bass experience. And the closer the speakers are to the wall, the stronger the bass.

Horn tweeterDepending on how the speakers are placed, the X 8 horntweeter can be adjusted to suit personal preferences andmatch different bass levels.

ARC (Anti Resonance Compound)This unique Jamo technology is a 28mm-thick sandwich construction of particle board, a plastic shell, and non-reso-nant damping material. It prevents vibrations being trans-mitted from the loudspeakers to the cabinet, and providesenhanced detail and better bass. This technique also allows us to create designs that would not be possible with conven-tional materials, thus optimizing the appearance as well asacoustic properties.

DesignX 8 features two speakerdesigns in one. Leave thegrille on, and the speakersseem high-tech, yet still discreet and easy to fit into almost any home.To make a more aggressivestatement, remove the grilleand mount them using theaccompanying yellowdécor brackets.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

That's why designing loudspeakers is not just a

question of selecting the best possible compo-

nents and materials, but also ensuring that they

provide the best solution when combined.

The first step in the construction process is to set up an

advanced 3D computer model to provide a foundation for both

further design work and the programming of the computer-con-

trolled part of the production process. The actual production envi-

ronment brings together some of the world's most advanced robot

machines and a team of vastly experienced carpenters who take great

pride in their craftsmanship. It is no coincidence that Jamo's headquar-

ters lies in a region that is home to a large part of Denmark's world-

renowned furniture production industry. For Jamo, production and quality

control are simply two sides of the same coin all the way from the control of

raw materials to the painstaking final inspection of every single finished loud-

speaker. That's your guarantee that the sound, finish, accessories, packaging – in

short, every aspect of a Jamo product – will totally match your expectations.

J A M O P R O D U C T I O NProduct development

This is based on marketfeedback, to ensure thatwe have a good sense ofour customers' wishes andrequirements. Jamo's in-novative acoustic, electro-nic and mechanical engi-neers are responsible forproduct development – but the developmentprocess is never conclud-ed until our experiencedpanel of listeners has ap-proved the new product.

Construction

Everything is first model-led in 3D computer soft-ware, to make it easier to check that the variouscomponents, woodenelements, etc., fit toget-her. This also means thatdesign optimisation ispossible at a much earlierstage of the developmentprocess. Such advanced3D applications, however, are no replacement forour experienced modelcarpenters, who then produce a perfect, full-size prototype.

Quality control

This begins with entrypoint checking, duringwhich all of the raw ma-terials are subjected totest sampling. Similarly, samples of all productioncomponents are testedduring the productionprocess. Then comes afinal inspection of everyproduct before it leavesthe factory. Moreover, pro-ducts are selected everyweek from the finishedgoods warehouse andsubjected to an additional100% quality check oftheir sound, finish, pack-aging, accessories etc.

Warehouse

This is fully automatedand based on the latesttechnology. Everything iscontrolled by bar codesand computers – rightfrom the time that theorders are keyed into thesystem until they aredelivered directly fromGlyngøre to outlets allover Europe. For overseasdeliveries, Jamo makesuse of its finished goodswarehouses in Chicagoand Shanghai.

How large is the room in which the loudspeakers will be used?

This is a very important consideration, because loudspeakers

work by moving air. If the room is large, they have to move a

lot of air, whereas if the room is small, the amount of air to

be moved is correspondingly smaller. So it's a question of

finding speakers that correctly match the space in which

they will be used.

T H E R O O M M A K E S A D I F F E R E N C E

How much air do the speakers need to move, in order to fill

a room with sound? To make the calculation easier, we assume

that the average ceiling is three metres from the floor. We can

then categorise the room on the basis of whether it is larger

or smaller than 25 m2.

S p a c e s l a r g e r t h a n 2 5 m2

In the case of a large living-room or a spacious room of any

kind, the rule of thumb is simple: large rooms normally require

large loudspeakers. However, Jamo also produces smaller speak-

ers with sufficient power to fill a large space with sound. If you

prefer very small and compact loudspeakers, these can be com-

bined with one or more sub-woofers to create a similar impact.

S p a c e s s m a l l e r t h a n 2 5 m2

If the speakers are to be used in a small bedroom or any other

small space, Jamo offers a powerful series of small, compact

loudspeakers that are designed to harmonise elegantly with

your decor, while at the same time providing you with the

purest quality sound. But don't be fooled by the small size of

these Jamo speakers – they will play surprisingly loudly, and

without distortion, when you pump up the volume.

What is it that you want to hear when you are listening to music?

Nuances and subtle details? The complete, integrated acoustic

image? Or plenty of punch and bass? Whatever you need, Jamo

has just what you're looking for. All you need to do is choose

between the three loudspeaker lines: Detail, All-round or Bass.

Loudspeakers for the connoisseur. A unique combination of

advanced technology and classic Danish design at its very best.

The materials and components have been selected with care,

and we have paid particular attention to the assembly and finish.

Every aspect – right from the tiniest details to the completed

product – is in a class of its own. Detail Sound reproduces every

nuance of the acoustic image, which is why it is recommended

for lovers of classical music, jazz, opera and live recordings.

You're looking for versatile loudspeakers that combine quality-

consciousness with exquisite design. The All-round Sound series

has everything from speakers that are small and compact to the

large, floor-standing variety. All-round is the ideal solution for a

broad range of sonic reproduction needs, from jazz and classical

music to pop, rock and films.

your music loud but you hate distortion. The design is raw and

powerful, with the strength and durability of professional loud-

speakers. Bass Sound also provides extra power and presence
