Mr. James Anthony Roberts My Career Objective Having worked in various roles over the past 14 years I have progressed from being a communications technician and qualified Cisco network engineer to a network designer and systems security architect. I am looking to progress further as a network architect and looking for a role I can add value and at the same time challenge me mentally Career Summary Virgin Media Dec 2012 – Present Network Security Architect I am responsible for the network security architecture for current and future projects within Virgin Media, protecting Virgin Media's assets and ensuring any platform meets lawful requirements under Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA). My Key roles are ensuring we ascertain government sign off of all Lawful Interception and Data Retention and Disclosure solutions. Engaging with the National Technical Assistance Centre (NTAC), Government Home Office and 3rd party suppliers such as SS8 and BAE Systems Applied Intelligence to get the solution delivered on time and guaranteeing information assurance, data quality and system redundancy. These projects were always under stricken time scales working to meet Virgin Media’s business requirements to release a project to a given schedule. Within regulatory security we also played an active part in cyber defense and cyber security working with UK HMG. Protecting UK assets and ensuring our network was impenetrable against the most harden of cyber-attacks from foreign governments or cyber terrorists Along with my roles as a Network Security Architect I also hold the position of Regulatory Securities Crypto Custodian Neptune C.S. ltd April 2012 – Dec 2012 Technical Support and Project Engineer I initially began employment with Neptune as part of a security cleared team working with the British Foreign Office installing a VOIP solution within British Foreign offices around the world. I was quickly noticed for my ability to fault find and implement solutions within a Cisco network and was moved to Technical support and Project Engineering to assist with a number of high profile businesses around the Europe. Within my time at Neptune I have been responsible for numerous projects where I have needed to develop solutions to improve or incorporate a Cisco Data, Voice or wireless solution. This has led me in becoming the Cisco wireless specialist for all project work. Career Summary

BT Defense Fixed Telecommunications Systems 2011 – April 2012Network Design Specialist (IDA)I was contracted out to BT where I was responsible for designing the new 100Mb Defense Fixed Telecommunications Systems for the MOD which incorporates Juniper Routers for its core platform.

I was responsible for the design of network from the site router to the core node, which entails:

- Providing a base configuration for the site router- Designing of the network path between core router and node - Re-designing the network to customers needs- Ordering and arranging installation of network equipment- Designing cabinet layouts- Ensuring all work is JSP compliant

This role requires me to have interaction with many parties such as the MOD customer, SCIDA, and 3rd party engineers. The contract is under a strict deadline and there is pressure to deliver, a pressure which I cope

extremely well with to a point where I am ahead of my work and am assisting others with additional work.

EADS Defense and Security 2009-2011CISCO 2nd/3rd Line Network EngineerWhen I left the Royal Air Force I gained employment with EADS Defense and Security. Here I worked within the Network Operations Centre and was responsible for 2nd and 3rd line maintenance and repair on large secure CISCO and Nortel networks both for the Royal Navy (NAVYNET), the Fire Services (Fire Control Network) and the MOD’S LDCN network. I was in charge of a 2 man shift maintaining and reacting to faults and daily network housekeeping, all conducted within a secure environment.

In mid 2009 I transferred to MOD Corsham where I worked within the network operations centre maintaining the MOD’s DII (F) and DII Secret for EADS. I provided technical assistance to the Cisco network at 2nd and 3rd line working within an environment that required CCNP qualifications.

My Key roles were to:

- Provide control, monitoring and remote maintenance service for the network as prescribed by the relevant service level agreements.- Record and respond to faults reported via the management system, i.e. Netcool and CASD, or directly by the User, other Consortium Resolver Groups- Diagnose/fix faults according to priority or escalate in accordance with established process- Task and liaise with field-based engineers when remote diagnosis/fix is not possible- Supervise and coordinate routine network administration tasks as directed by line management- Supervise and coordinate routine site testing/acceptance as directed by line management- Provide statistical reports as directed by line management- Demonstrate a quality work ethic in line with the requirements of ISO 20000

Royal Air Force 2003-2008Electronics Technician (Trade Group 3)From 2003-2008 I served within the Royal Air Force as an electronics technician.

My first 2 years within the Royal Air Forces compromised of recruit basic training and my technical trade training, during this time I learned team building skills, self discipline, leadership skills and the skills required to make me a competent and effective technician within the Royal Air Force. This training was made up of radio and radar principles, network and computer maintenance and electronic principles and fault finding.

My final 4 years within the Royal Air Force I served with 2 Squadron Tactical Communications Wing (TCW), where I was responsible for installing, fixing and maintaining a variety of communications equipment. In this time I had become a specialist in:

- 501 and 503 mobile satellite communications system- RTTS and Cormorant mobile telecommunications system, utilizing both passport and meridian

exchange systems.- DII (F)/ Deployable LAN/Project KARDS deployable CISCO and Nortel networks

During my time on TCW I did 3 tours of OP Herrick in Afghanistan where I was a shift Network engineer responsible for maintaining the Local Area Network, Telephone and satellite communications system within Kandahar airfield. I was required to work on operational mission critical equipment classified up to top secret, this was done under extreme pressures and I was relied on to rectify problems swiftly

On my final tour of Afghanistan I was praised and put forward for commendation for the swift rectification of a Network fault that would of affected operations.
