To Everyone:   I spoke with this parent. She has already spoken at least once with Student Registration staff.   Her child was placed on the waiting list at both the first and second choices (first choice: Forest Park – in the top 10 on the waiting list; Second Choice: Fair Park – top 20 on the waiting list).  I explained that if/when a seat opens she will be notified asap. I explained that as Fair Park has 180 P4 seats, there are many changes that occur and there’s a chance she will get in but to just hold on.   To assist her, I did find and offer a seat at Brady, but the parent declined the seat stating she “only wants Forest Park.” In addition, I offered to meet her and let her see the Brady Pre‐K classrooms, meet the teachers, and the principal, but she is not interested.  Primarily she wants to have a way to have her child moved up on the waiting list – I explained to her (as has the SRO staff) that there is no “jumping ahead” in a waiting list.  SRO also explained this to her.   At this point, SRO and the Early Childhood Office have explained more than once the process of Pre‐K enrollment and waiting lists, today I offered her a seat in a near‐by school, and for now, she is waiting on the waiting list.   I just spoke to Dr. Fields and share this information and said I would send the summary to you.   If there are any other questions, please let me know – I work with families alongside SRO staff all spring in similar situations.    Dr. Karen James Director Elementary Literacy & Early Childhood Programs

Dr. Suggs,

I'm requesting a meeting with you ASAP to discuss about my grandson not being accepted in to the Pre-K Program in the LRSD for next year. Sandra and I are very upset about this. We are not asking for favors, but not be granted either of his two choices is very disturbing to us as well as his parents and his other grandparents. I want to inform you also that some lady at student assignment was extremely rude to Sandra yesterday when she called. She would only give her first name. I usually don't get involved but it seems there has been a huge mistake or injustice made. His father's grandfather was President of the LRSD School Board during the 1957 Crisis. He helped guide and lead the district during that historical time in our country. Further, the Tucker family has been strong supporters of Public Education in this city for many, many years. Lastly, I'm not sure how much more we can take after the crushing blow to Sandra with the Williams dilemma two years ago. I know you weren't responsible for that but it hurts deeply still today. We just bought a new home in January directly across the street from Forest Park in hopes that we could be near our two grandchildren as they began their education and in hopes of giving our extra time to that school. I hope you will at least provide me the opportunity to visit and discuss this significant situation. Thank you for your time.
