Community Workshops

The workshop was an active discussion on HIV prevention and the challenges people living with HIV face.

The workshop was inspiring and interactive with input from parents and Sexual health specialist.

The participants are attentively listening to Marian making a point. HIV prevention strategies were discussed, with a special emphasis on condom use as the most effective way of preventing HIV and other STIs.

Jambo InterviewGraciano Aganze, the leader of the African Group ‘FUSION’. Graciano has been involved with Love Cover Protect (LCP) for about a year, he says been part of LCP gave him the opportunity to learn about HIV prevention, raise awareness and support the community. Graciano says “the support the group received from LCP was very helpful, it enabled us to achieve our goal and be part of this great event.”

We asked Graciano about his role in organising the African Youth Talent Showcase, he said “helping to organise this event, I learnt about event management, dealing with different people and also how to raise awareness about important and sensitive issues such as HIV. I encourage members of the community especially the youth to join Love Cover Protect and help raise awareness. We need projects and programmes like Love Cover Protect that make great impact on the health and welbeing of our communities”. He goes on saying“I wish to thank Love Cover Protect and the New Zealand AIDS Foundation for giving me the opportunity to be one of the organisers of the African Youth Talent Showcase 2013, and I appreciate their love and support”

Love Cover Protect (LCP) LCP is our social marketing strategy used in engaging our community in condom use. This is done in a culturally appropriate manner.

Strategically displaying LCP condoms in one of our newly established favourite African Bar called Afrika Bar in Wellington. LCP runs monthly gigs in Afrika Bar where African traditional dishes from many African countries are sold. The Bar is owned by our African brother and programme supporter Barika Darboe originally from Gambia. Thank you brother Barika

LCP Supporting Sport NZAF/ LCP is a proud sponsor of the African sport events in New Zealand.

African Youth Talent Showcase (AYTS)On November 23rd 2013 all roads led to The Playhouse Theatre in Glen Eden, Auckland, New Zealand, where there was all types and class of music, traditional dance and African poetry by young African artists. The roof was raised as the talent and gifts of the community were expressed with joy, skill and swag. The show was organised by Love Cover Protect (LCP) and aimed to inform and connect young people to services available to them and to promote young African talents. Our gratitude to those who took part, helped to organize, attended and supported the performers is immeasurable. Thank you for your support. In the near future we will take the show country wide; as a way of empowering and intrinsically motivating the young African youth to actively participate in New Zealand world of arts and music. Special thanks to members of the Organizing Committee comprised of the following hard-working cadres : Graciano Aganze (Stage Manager), Rodney Mugadza (Marketing & Promotion), Esnart Chipili (Project Manager), Carlos Abdelrahman (Project Coordinator), DJ Muse Ahmed Cadde (Music and Sound).

Soul of AfricaOn the 2nd November 2013, Christchurch (ChCh) was a hive of activities, celebrating Soul of Africa, where all African communities in ChCh were joined by other communities to rejoice under the theme” White Ribbon- Violence Against Women”. NZAF/ LCP was one of the key sponsors and actively participated. The following pictures taken at the event tell the excitement and stories:
