ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT

This document was written for the 3.2.2.2 version of the Jacosoft software but may be used for

the subsequent versions.

Keep these instructions for future reference.

This document contains information regarding the installation of Jacosoft, a program devoted to

facilitate the configuration of Kinova’s JACO arm. This document is intended for:

o Field service, customer support and sales’ employees of authorized distributor

of JACO.

This software should NEVER be given to a JACO arm end user.

Important information regarding safe operation of Kinova’s products.

Installation of Jacosoft

The figures and terms used in this document are dependant of the computer’s operating system

and version. It may differ of what is presented in this document. Adress any questions

concerning this document to [email protected].

The words and figures used in this document are dependent of the operating system

installed on your computer, its version and language. They may differ of what appears

on your screen.

To install Jacosoft on your company, you must:

Install the driver;

Install the software;

Install the licence.

If you want to install another version of the software, please refer to the Software upgrade

section.

DRIVER INSTALLATION

1. Plug your JACO arm in your computer using the USB cable provided by Kinova.

� The following window should appear :

If this window doesn’t appear :

a. Open the main computer menu.

b. Go on the Start menu, chose: program/ accessories / command prompt.

c. Enter the following command: hdwwiz.

The previous window should appear.

2. Click on Next.

3. Chose « Install the hardware that I manually select from a list».

4. Click on Next.


5. Chose « Show all périphériques ».

6. Click on the Next button.

7. Go get the driver by clicking on the Have Disk… button.


8. Click on the Browse button.

9. Get the JACO driver in the specified folder and chose Driver de Jaco as shown in the

following figure:

10. The arrow should show the selected folder as shown in the following figure.

11. Click on the OK button.

The driver has been installed.

You must now install the Jacosoft software.

Software installation

1. Open the Jacosoft 3.1.8.11 folder that has been given by Kinova as shown in the following

figure:

2. Double-click on the Jacosoft Installer item.

FOR THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT

4. Be sure the chosen folder is located on the disk C:\ (marked by a red circle in

the preceding figure).

5. Select Everyone.

POUR ANY OTHER USER ACCOUNTS

4. Windows will ask to indicate the path to the installation (.msi) folder. This

folder is located in the folder specified in step 1.

5. Windows will ask the administrator password to proceed with the installation.

You must provide it.

8. Wait until the installation is completed.

10. Close the window by clicking the Close button.

The software installation is completed.

In order to use the software, you must install the licence.

Find the license

1. Open the Jacosoft 3.1.8.12 folder as shown in the following figure.

2. Open the Jacosoft folder:

3. Get the licence number by clicking twice on the serial number item.

� A text file with the password will open.

Enter the Jacosoft licence

1. Click twice on the Jacosoft icon as shown in the following figure.

� When opened for the first time, Jacosoft will present the following window :

2. Enter the password recovered with method presented previously.

3. Click on the Continue button.

Verify the connection to JACO

1. Assure that the JACO is powered and connected to the computer with a USB cable.

2. The light located in the upper corner of the screen should be green as shown in the

following figure.

Note that the connection to Jacosoft could take a few seconds to establish.

You are now ready to use the Jacosoft software.

Refer to the Jacosoft User Guide for detailed information on the configuration of

JACO.

JACOSOFT VERSION UPDATE

To install a new version of Jacosoft, you must :

1. Uninstall Jacosoft;

2. Erase the licence;

3. Install the new Jacosoft version as explained previously.

Uninstall Jacosoft

1. Connect to the administrator and close every other session.

2. Go in the Start menu of the computer and chose : Control Pannel/ Programs / Uninstall a

program.


3. Double-click on Jacosoft.

4. Click on the Yes button.


Jacosoft has been uninstalled.

You must now erase the licence.

Erase the licence

You must manually erase the folder [Licences] and all of its content in:

� The administrator account

� Every other user account

1. With the Explorer, open the folder in which are located the Jacosoft licences

� For WINDOWS XP/VISTA

C:\ Documents and Settings\ YourUserName\ Application Data\ Kinova\ Products\

Licenses\.

� For WINDOWS 7

C:\YourUserName\ App Data\ Roaming\ Kinova\ Products\ Licences\.

The folder App Data is a hidden folder. It may not appear automatically in the explorer

window. To access the App Data folder, you must follow the procedure detailed in the

“Show a hidden folder” section.

2. Select all the items of this folder.

3. Erase the items by simultaneously clicking on Ctrl + Alt + Del.

SHOW A HIDDEN FOLDER

1. Access the User folder (YourUserName) as defined in the previous section.

2. Press on the Alt button.

� A menu (red square of following figure) should appear.

3. Select Tools/ Folder options.

4. In the View tab, select « Show hidden files, folders and drives ».

� The App Data should now be apparent :
