HEAD COACH YOLETT MCPHEE-MCCUIN Jacksonville University Director of Athletics Brad Edwards announced the hiring of Yolett McPhee-McCuin as women’s basketball head coach on April 12, 2013. McPhee-Mc-Cuin, who also serves as the Head Coach of the Bahamian women’s national team, takes over immediately as the third head coach in the 14-year history of Jacksonville women’s basketball after spending the last three seasons on staff at Clemson.

“Yolett will be a great addition to our athletics department, and to the University as a whole,” said Edwards. “She’s a proven top-notch recruiter whose results-driven vision is certain to bring success to our women’s basketball program.”

A nine-year coaching veteran, McPhee-McCuin comes to JU following a three-year stint at Clemson where she was tagged as one of the top assistants in the nation by the National Women’s Basketball Insider. During her time in South Carolina she solidified her reputation as one of the most knowledgeable recruiters in the game today. This past season alone McPhee-McCuin spearheaded the No. 16 ranked recruiting class in the country, landing five McDonalds All-American nominees for the Tigers.

As the first Bahamian female to sign a Letter of Intent to a Division I school, McPhee-McCuin has become a trailblazer for aspiring females from her home country of the Bahamas. She is also the first female from her country to coach at a Division I program. Named the Bahamian women’s national team coach in March, McPhee-McCuin will bring a wealth of international experience to the First Coast.

Throughout her nine-year coaching career, McPhee-McCuin has made a large impact in each of the communities that she has come across. She developed a foundation in the Bahamas called Back2Basics, which helps the development of children through education and athletics. Additionally, she was involved in numerous community service projects at her other coaching stops.

Prior to her time at Clemson, she was on staff at Pitt for two years. With the Panthers, McPhee-McCuin helped guide the program to a pair of post season appearances highlighted by a No. 14 national ranking and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2009.

McPhee-McCuin spent the 2007-08 season at Portland, where she acted as recruiting coordinator and also helped run the team’s marketing efforts. With her guidance, the team posted their best record in 10 years, and developed guard Katie Burris to all-confer-ence honors after averaging less than one point per game the previous season.

After starting her coaching career as the first ever assistant coach for Frank Phil-lips College [Texas], she went to work at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as an assis-tant coach and recruiting coordinator. Here, she earned her Master’s in physical education, recording a 4.0 GPA.

McPhee-McCuin received a bachelor’s degree in business management and admin-istration from the University of Rhode Island in 2004. She played two seasons at Miami-Dade Community College, before playing two seasons with the Rams. She appeared in 56 games for URI, and helped lead the Rams to the 2003 A-10 Championship game.

An active member of the coaching community, McPhee-McCuin is a member of the “So You Want to be a Coach “ program through the WBCA, and she holds membership in the Black Coaches and Administrators Association. The former Yolett McPhee is married to Kelly McCuin, and the couple just welcomed their first child, Yasmine Lee, to their family in Septem-ber.

Camille Collier took over as an assistant coach on the Dolphins staff in May of 2013 after working the past season as a graduate as-sistant coach at Georgia State. A former standout at Wake Forest, the Washington, D.C. native wrapped up her career as a student-athlete in 2012 by helping the Demon Deacons to a 20-win season and the second round of the WNIT.

“Camille embodies the necessary tools starting in this profession with her incredible work ethic and zeal,” said McCuin. “Without a doubt her energy, along with attention to detail will impact this program instantaneously.”

Collier was named to the ACC All-Academic team as freshman when she led ACC rookies with her 8.2 scoring average and also earned a place on the ACC Honor Roll two other times. She earned her degree in sociology.

“I am elated and honored to join Coach McCuin’s staff,” added Collier. “I am excited about her vision for the program and the opportu-nity to elevate Jacksonville women’s basketball to new heights.”

Darnell Haney joined the Jacksonville University staff as an assistant coach in June of 2013.

Haney comes to JU after having been the Jones High School (Orlando, Fla.) women’s basketball head coach since 2010.

“Darnell is a man that displays class, great work ethic, and energy,” said JU women’s basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. “I know the university, team, and community will appreciate his presence immediately. I look forward to watching him excel here at JU on and off the floor.”

While at Jones High School, Haney helped turn around a program that had won just six games prior to him arriving to compiling 60 wins during a 3 year tenure. He guided the Lady Tigers to District and Regional titles as well as a State Final Four appearance in 2012. For his efforts, Haney was named three-time FACA Coach of the Year.

“I am extremely honored and excited about joining Coach McCuin’s staff here at JU,” said Haney. “Her vision and her approach to devel-oping an elite program is one that I am proud to be a part of. As a coach you are blessed with a handful of truly special situations. This program and this situation are special and I am ready to help JU Women’s Basketball show how special we really are.”

Haney is a graduate Florida A&M University received his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration from Nova Southeastern Univer-sity in 2009. He and his wife Aaliyah have two children, Imani 8 and Caleb 3.

Brandon Rohr is the newest addition to the Jacksonville University women’s basketball coaching staff, entering his first season as an assis-tant coach in September of 2013. Rohr comes to JU after spending last season as an assistant coach with Southern Illinois University. “I am extremely excited about having Brandon on staff,” said McCuin. “He will work primarily with the post players and will be an asset to my staff and the JU Community.”

With five years of coaching experience under his belt, Rohr started his career as the assistant women’s basketball coach at his alma mater, Nebraska Wesleyan University, in 2008. While at Nebraska his main responsibilities included assisting with post player workouts and on-court instruc-tion of defensive drills. Following a one-year stint in Nebraska, Rohr moved on to Concordia University Texas where he aided the team in posting a 37-15 overall re-cord and a 33-11 American Southwest Conference record from 2010-2012. The Tornados were also ASC West Division Champions and ASC Tourna-ment Champions and made a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament in the 2011-12 season. In conjunction with his coaching responsibilities, Rohr also served as the recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator and took on adminis-trative and fundraising duties. As the recruiting coordinator, many of his signees went on to earn ASC honors including Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and other All-Conference honors.

Rohr landed at Southern Illinois University after serving Concordia University Texas from 2009-2012. He again served as the assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator. With SIU, Coach Rohr’s on-court coaching mainly concerned the development of post players. His guiding of freshman Dyana Pierre assisted her in averaging 9.2 rebounds per game (1st in MVC) and recording eight double-doubles (5th in MVC).
