September 30 will always be a special day for Rachel of Ione. Following the death of her husband earlier in the year, 53-year-old Rachel was just beginning to look for a job when she hit a $1.2 million MegaJackpot™ at Jackson Rancheria Casino.
She was initially playing on one of her two favorite $5 Wheel of Fortune slot machines in the High Limit Room when she won a $1,200 jackpot. While she was waiting to complete the paperwork on that win, she moved over to the Wheel machine next to it, played for a few minutes and then hit the MegaJackpot™ for $1,270,178.73.
“I was a little confused,” she admits, when the machine first hit. “I expected all kinds of bells and noise and it was really rather quiet. The first two (winning) symbols came up very quickly but the third
one came real slow.” She didn’t realize how large the jackpot was until an attendant arrived. “Then I just sat there and looked at it for a while.”
Rachel and her husband moved to the Ione area about five years ago to be near their son. Following her husband’s death in May, she was beginning to look for a job.
She says the jackpot means “peace of mind” and “stability.”
“Jackson Rancheria Casino has had more MegaJackpot™ winners than any other casino in California,” notes Jackson Rancheria Director of Marketing Mike Pistoia. “We’re pleased to add Rachel to that long list as yet another example of Rancheria Style® winners. We’ve paid out more than $22 million on these popular machines and look forward to many more winners.”

Main Street Theatre Works (MSTW) is wrapping up another successful season of good tidings and great laughs with the side-splitting “A Tuna Christmas.”
“A Tuna Christmas” was written as a sequel to “Greater Tuna,” which MSTW produced in 2007. In this soon-to-be holiday classic, all hilarious heck is about to break loose in Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas.
It’s just 24 hours before Christmas and the citizens of Tuna are coping with all kinds of holiday traumas. The Little Theatre production of “A Christmas Carol” may be performing in the dark if Dixie Deberry shuts off their lights due to an overdue electric bill. Bertha’s husband, Hank, hasn’t been home in days, the kids won’t help her decorate the tree, and the Christmas phantom is wreaking havoc on those participating in the annual Yard Decorating Contest. Will Vera Carp win for the 15th year in a row, or will the Christmas phantom strike again?
“A Tuna Christma” is a two-man show, with each actor playing 11 characters. Shawn B. O’Neal, who was in MSTW’s 2007 Greater
Tuna production, is back to do the sequel. Shawn was last seen in MSTW’s summer production of “The Three Musketeers,” where
he played King Louis. Scott Adams is a newcomer to MSTW but not to the stage. He brings the experience and energy that is required for such a demanding show.
Bring the whole family to meet the residents of Tuna, Texas, where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.
“A Tuna Christmas” runs weekends November 6 through 28, with Sunday matinees November
15 and 22. The dinner theatre shows are at Thomi’s Banquet Room in Jackson and start at 7:45 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 with dinner served at 6:30. Lunch matinees are at 1:45 p.m. Doors open at 12:15 and lunch is served at 12:30.
Tickets are $40 for the dinner shows and $28 for lunch matinees and are available by phone at 209-304-6690 or on line at mstw.org.
Thomi’s Banquet Room is located at 627 S. Highway 49 in Jackson.
Why spend Thanksgiving Day stressing over dishes and table settings and getting everyone together when you can enjoy a leisurely and luscious Thanksgiving Buffet at Raging River Restaurant?
The buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. so stop by when you are ready. The cost is just $25 for adults, $22.50 for seniors 55+, and $10 for children seven to 12. Dreamcatcher’s Club members enjoy the following discounts: Elite & VIP - Complimentary, Premier - $13, Preferred - $18, and Classic - $22.
In addition to traditional Roast Turkey with Cranberry Relish, Corn Bread Stuffing and all the side dishes, you can also select Rosemary & Garlic New York Strip Loin,

Felicia Gangl is one of the super-friendly Traffic Controllers who make sure all sorts of vehicles move safely around the Rancheria every day.
It’s a tough job. They are out there 24 hours a day in weather rating from freezing to over 100 degrees, but Felicia loves it.
“I love the traffic department and everyone here,” she says. “They all have a great sense of humor. I love the guests, particularly the regulars who will play along with me. If I can make a car full of people smile it makes my day.”
She agrees the weather can be brutal, but has her own way of dealing with it. “When it’s hot I pretend I’m in Mexico. A hail storm, that’s a free facial.” Felicia sees the positive side of everything.
Born in Stockton, she lived in Manteca before moving to this area when she was 15. She started doing home health care work even before she finished high school. She also worked in electronics and at Kit Carson Convalescent Hospital, where she got her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
She has since completed her massage therapist certification and hopes to be working in that field some day.
Felicia first worked for Jackson Rancheria at the old Bingo Hall as a waitress. After being gone for almost 20 years, she recently returned and joined the Traffic Control staff.
When not cheerfully directing vehicles around the Rancheria, she likes to spend time with her family. She’s married with a son and daughter, both of whom graduated from local high schools and are now going to college.
She looks forward to an annual trip to Baja. “I enjoy being around my family, down in Baja, riding on the beach on the quad, that is ideal! Being with family is number one.”
Felicia is definitely a team player who knows that it takes a team to make anything work. “I want to offer special thanks to the Transportation and Valet departments.
They always go out of their way to help me. And thanks to all the guests and employees who smile and make my day.”
She was brought to our attention by players Bondi and Ron from Wilton, who wrote: “My husband and I are able to visit Jackson Rancheria every Saturday morning. Usually our first encounter with an employee is with Felicia who directs incoming traffic to the casino.
“I have to use a wheel chair - but she didn’t know that the first time we came in - she greeted us with a wonderful smile and grace in signaling us where to park (and continues too). She always makes an effort to give me a hug and greet my husband with extreme respect along with the statement “good luck.”
“We are grateful for her warmth and wonderful smile. She makes the difference. We miss her when she’s not there.
“My husband and I, after 45 years of marriage realized that we do not take vacations well with each other; nor do we enjoy dinner out, just the two of us (we do neither now), so we decided that we both enjoy Jackson Rancheria and what it offers, so we designated every Saturday as

our ‘private time together date.’“We only see Felicia driving in and
leaving, but she has made our ‘date’ day very special. Please thank her for us.
“We realize that we will never be able to reach any level other than Classic because of a limited budget, and being able to be at Jackson Rancheria only one day a week, but we totally enjoy the ‘human warmth’ Felicia and JRCH provide us. Thank you.”
Thanks to Felicia for providing Rancheria Style© guest service, and to Bondi and Ron for taking the time to tell us about her.
silent auction features art pieces, items donated by local merchants, and holiday décor.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door and may be purchased on line at acaconline.com or in person at Sutter
