Jack London Square recaptures the vivid history of the
City of Oakland and the adventurous spirit of legendary
writer Jack London, emerging as a vibrant Bay Area
destination. It creates an important tie between a lively
working waterfront, a celebrated culinary community
and the multiplicity of cultures that create the urban
fabric of the East Bay. Today, Jack London Square is a
place for pleasure and sustenance, commerce and
community. As Jack London wrote, “The proper function
of man is to live, not exist.”

Today Jack London Square encompasses over 400,000 square feet
of mixed-used development. When completed, the total project will
exceed 1 million square feet.
Highlights:
• The dramatic six-story Jack London Market adds 62,000 square feet of retail and
culinary space and nearly 110,000 square feet of office space to the Square.
• 255 Second Street is a seven-story parking garage that also adds 30,000 square feet
of neighbourhood commercial space to serve the residents of thousands of new
housing units in the rapidly growing surrounding residential district. A bridge
provides direct access from parking to the second floor of the Market.
• The newly completed two-story building at 10 Clay features striking ground-floor
retail spaces with lofty ceilings, and opportunities for outdoor dining on the waterfront.
• Joie de Vivre Hotels, California’s largest boutique hotel company, has upgraded the
Waterfront Hotel. Combining a creative spirit with sound business principles, Joie de
Vivre aspires to revolutionize the hospitality industry by continuing to develop the
world’s most innovative hospitality products and services.
Future:
• The mixed-use retail and office space adjacent to 70 Washington will feature two
stories of entertainment and retail space, with four stories of office above.
• Next to the Market, a 135,000 square-foot office building offers flexible floorplans
and a 355-car garage.
• A second hotel with 248 4-star rooms will also offer 15-20,000 square feet of
conference area to meet the needs of regional businesses. The gorgeous waterfront
location and complete amenity package will also make it a special getaway for
area residents.
