Dear Friends and Supporters,

2009 proved to be a year of successful endeavors. In addition to promoting leadership development pro-grams, Jack and Jill of America Foundation funded new programs that provided financial literacy to our youth, programs that provided health education in an effort to tackle the growing epidemic of childhood obesity, and continues to support scholarships to some of the brightest students in the country.

This coming year, Jack and Jill of America Foundation desires to instill the importance of legacy building; giving that will sustain our families and communities for generations to come. We believe that strong families build strong communities. Along with your support, the Board of Trustees plans to emphasize the importance of building and sustaining a legacy dedicated to our mission of promoting leadership develop-ment for children, youth, and young adults.

Jack and Jill of America Foundation would like to sincerely thank every Jack and Jill Mother, Trustee, and Donor who has supported our vision and mission in any capacity. It is through your efforts that we can continue to serve our at-risk communities and build and sustain a legacy of giving for our children and children’s children for generations to come.

Please visit our website at www.jackandjillfoundation.org to access our news page, to make a secure on-line donation, and to register for updates to hear how your Foundation is serving our nation’s at-risk communi-ties.

Again, we thank you for your continued support.

With warm regards,

PresidentBoard of Trustees

LETTER FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Another year has begun for Jack and Jill of America Foundation and its time that we reflect on our past year’s work - I am proud to share with you some of our accomplishments.

Childhood Obesity

When First Lady Michelle Obama made her call to action on Childhood Obesity, Foundation was already supporting health and fitness-conscious projects such as “Youth Fit for Life” in Stockbridge, George and “Let’s Get Fit” in Las Vegas, Nevada. We know that obese children and adolescents are targets of social discrimination, which can lead to low self-esteem and, in turn, hinder academic and social growth. President Cliette and the Board of Trustees have championed to support an approach to problems associated with childhood obesity. Young people cannot truly be leaders if they are not healthy.

Financial Literacy

Without financial literacy, young people may be unable to transition from their parental home and the inability to manage money or build wealth will become a theme. Jack and Jill of America, Inc. – Indianapolis Chapter received a $3,000 grant in support of “YES to Our Future! Youth Economic Leadership Summit”, its fourth annual financial literacy leadership summit. The San Fernando Valley Chapter received a $3,000 grant for teens to participate in a financial workshop “Securing Your Future via Financial Literacy”.

As you see, the Foundation continues to make an impact in our communities. This year Foundation plans to partner with organizations such as World of Money to continue the work on teaching youth solid money skills; the NAACP and Cham-pions in Congress to promote a multi-prolonged approach to combating childhood obesity.

We implore you to join us in empowering tomorrow’s young leaders. The investments we make in children are safe, long-term and yield more than any other investment imaginable.

Thank you for your continued support.

Executive Director

ADERONKE ADERONUM currently attends University of California Berkeley. She has not determined her area of study as her interests are varied. During high school, Aderonke participated in several community service projects such as tutoring freshmen in science, math and French and also volunteering her service at the local hospital. She received several awards for her academics—Outstanding Achievement in Social Services for 2007 and 2008, National Achievement Award, and Most Improved Delegate for her participation during her high school freshman year. It is her desire to choose a major which will be fulfilling and can impact her community in a positive way.

ROSE BAMFO attends Harvard University and is pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering. She par-ticipated in several extracurricular activities throughout her high school years. She was a member of the Student Government Association serving as the Liaison for African American Focus and was a member of the Greenhills Newspaper staff. She was also a Greenhills School Ambassador and a member of the Faculty Selection committee and Theatre Club. Her accomplishments include 2009 National Achievement Scholar Finalists, First Place National Kroger Black History Month, Ann Arbor New Young Citizen of the Year Nominee, and Coca Cola Scholars Finalist. Upon graduation, Rose aspires to continue her studies and con-duct research.

DEREK BROWN currently attends Virginia Commonwealth University pursuing a major in pre-dentistry. Following in the footsteps of his older brother and parents, he decided to continue the family legacy by enrolling at this university. He graduated, with a 3.64 grade point average from Richmond Community High School—a school that is designed for gifted and talented students. During his tenure in high school, he par-ticipated in Honor and AP classes, which he strongly believes successfully, prepared him for the rigor of col-lege. His accomplishments included receiving the Athlete/Scholar award from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; Most Improved Player; and dual enrollment status at a local community college in his junior and senior years. Upon graduating, he plans to attend a dental school and eventually establish a chain of dental clinics.

JAQUEN CASTELLANOS currently attends Columbia University and has an interest in pursuing English or Journalism as a major. In high school, she served as president of both the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Palmer Trinity Diversity Club. As president of the Diversity club she attended conferences in Texas and Boston, meeting with educators and administrators to discuss ways to create a positive educa-tion environment regardless of race, economic background, and sexual orientation. Her commitment to di-versity resulted in her receiving the Ambassador Silver Bowl Award. Her other interests are reading, sports, skateboarding, and traveling. Upon graduating from college, Jaquen aspires to become a news anchorperson or work in advertising.

She is actively involved in her church as a member of a local Girl Scouts troop and the Liturgical Dance Ministry. Managing all these activities as well as her academics has helped her to develop time management skills which are essential skills for success in college. Christa’s professional aspirations are to attend law school with a focus on family law and ultimately open her own law practice.

JOHN OTT currently attends University of Missouri, Columbia and is pursuing a degree in civil engineer-ing. He is a member of a talented musical family, where everyone has demonstrated their ability through singing, dancing, or playing an instrument.
