You must go up to the Featherbed Nursery and see their selection of trees and watch out for Santa's sleigh and the life size reindeer hiding in the trees. Just walking through the nursery gives you a Christmassy feeling, and wait for it there is an added bonus for every tree you buy you will be entered into the luxury hamper raffle and there are two luxury raffles to be won, all include nice quality food, not a tin of span in sight!!!!! Also if you are lucky you might see Santa himself walking around, so go up there and get your tree and make a couple of hours fun for you and the family, as you can also feed the animals and play in the play area. What more do you need!!!!! Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas Carols by Candlelight As stated in the last issue of the Iwade Village News, this event is so popular that it is back by demand, and because of the demand, this year we are having two services, one at 3.30pm for children and residents who do not like going out after dark and the second at 6.00pm. Both services are exactly the same. Due to Health and Safety within the Church, if we burn the vicar this year, we need to get the fire brigade in!!! It is ticket only. The tickets are absolutely free and all you have to do is contact Sylvia on 478103, Maria on 477133, Wynn on 424502, Lynda on 476274 or Connie on 471932, or anytime the church is open. All the popular carols will be sung and it is hoped again that the children (and adults if they wish) dress up in their Christmas costumes for this service to add to the atmosphere. We want to see a lot of jingle bells, shepherds, Christmas Trees, Rudolphs amongst the crowd. If the children wish to bring musical instruments such as bells etc, please feel free to do so as we want to make as much noise as possible. So do not miss out and get your tickets for either service Family Crib Service Don't forget the best kept secret within the village is the Family Crib service on Sunday 23rd December at 10.30am. This is always a great hit with the children who are jostling and queuing up to the put little figures back in the crib. If it is anything like last year, there will only be standing room in the crib, due to the amount of little people and animals going it. If you are not a regular church goer, don't worry, but this is one service you can not afford to miss.

6 ChurchesChallenge

A somewhat hair-brainedscheme that there should be awalk to link the six churches inour cluster became a reality onthe last Saturday in October.

The walk started from Upchurchat 9am with a group of 15enthusiasts. We were soonjoined by another five of theBurch family, and friend Christ, well renowned for theirconsistency in relaxed timekeeping! At our first stop,Lower Halstow, we gainedanother three recruits, one ofwho, non other than our own

Rev Ron Partridge, had slept toosoundly arriving at Upchurchhalf an hour after the rest of ushad set off. After earlyrefreshments and distribution ofbadges (one badge for eachchurch visited) we continued onour way along the Saxon ShoreWay, through fields, orchardsand farmland , to Iwade. Wereally did feel blessed to bewalking under the everincreasing amounts of blue skyafter two or three days of grey, miserable yuk!.

At Iwade Tony and LyndaMacGowan, kindly allowed usto use their facilities before weenjoyed yet more refreshments, ably served by Sylvia, at IwadeChurch. Twenty of us trekkedon towards Newington, passingwarily by two snarlingRottweilers, thankfully caged,on the way. By now it waslunchtime and much effort hadbeen made to put on a goodspread, served to us by Pam, atNewington Church.

Eight miles had been covered,

which was nearly half the totaldistance. Many people here, and one dog, deciding that anafternoon siesta in the sunshinemight be a better idea thananother eight or nine miles ofwalking, retired from thechallenge. We were left withtwo new recruits, Roger andIrene Milton, and a further sevenintrepid survivors intent onreaching the ultimate goal. Thesection to Stockbury was alluphill and took its toll on feet, legs and mental strength. Ireneand Roger welcome us into theirhome in Stockbury before weembarked on the mostlydownhill stretch to Hartlip.

There was audible moaningwhen the leader decided on analternative, more scenic route, into Hartlip which appeared, for a time, to be not only uphillbut to take the walkers in theopposite direction before theirnext destination, Hartlip church.Eventually we got there andwere treated to yet more timelyand most welcome hospitality.Roger and Irene left us here, one

with more of a hobble gait thenhad been shown at the start, andother with a muddier, lesssparkling, shade of pink boot, leaving a 'magnificent' seven tocomplete the task. And so to the last lap, back toUpchurch, done at a canter, arriving back at the church justnine hours after we had left.Certificates and the prized 6churches badges were gleefullyreceived and then werehandshakes hugs and kiss allaround before we all retried toour homes, to nurse achinglimbs and muscles. The one laterising Reverend still had to walkback to Lower Halstow but heassures us he did it tosuccessfully complete thechallenge as well,

This walk may become anannual event so, if you are at allinterested, watch out for detailsabout the next one. Thanks to allwho took part and specialthanks to those who opened upchurches to make the day evenmore enjoyable

CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS - byPatience Strong.

All the world is young onChristmas Day. Our grown-upworries seem to melt away. There is a feeling that we can'texplain - for we become likechildren once again.

The faith of childhood springs inus anew. Our hearts growlighter, brighter, and warmertoo. And life takes on a sweetsimplicity. God comes so close -not veiled in mystery - But as achild; a small and helpless thing.

The baby Christ, the little Savior-King This is thought that breaksdown human pride the tenderthought that comes at Christmastide.

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcomeit"

These words so familiar to many ofus, used at the Christmas services, often in a darkened Church full offlickering candles. A traditionalvery evocative scene, but whatdoes it really mean to any of us?

What difference do all the fairylights, the presents, all thecelebrations mean to each one ofus?

Why when half the world eats toomuch, drinks too much and getsinto debt, which will take a longtime to pay off, do others starveand live in desperately poorconditions?

Is this the light which Jesus cameinto the world to bring, light andwealthy to a privileged few?

Emphatically NO.

Jesus came into this world to bringa pure light, which will shine in allthe darkest corners, show up allthat is wrong with the world andgive us the chance to put it right. We use the symbols of candles agreat deal at this time of the year, which is a dark time anyway. Many people in the last few dayshave said to me how gloomy thistime of the year is and how easy itis to get depressed. Stand in adarkened area, especially a Church

and light just one single candle. The light spreads out, but it is not astill light which has to bemanipulated by man as a torch or alamp, but a living moving flamewhich moves of it's own will andspreads light to different places atdifferent times, even if you are onlystanding still.

The light that Jesus came to being isalso a living light, the light, whichbrings hope to you wheneverything around you seems to bedark. There is a myth around thatas Christians we live in a rosy glowand never have to face darknessand difficulty.

This is simply not the truth. Thingsdo happen and Christians have toface dark times just as much asanyone else. The difference is thatwe have light in our lives we havethe living flame within us, whichwill never be extinguished, even ifwe think it might at times. We arenever alone, even if we think weare sometimes. God loves us all somuch he sent His Son to earth forus, each one of us. He will neverabandon us.

We have seen the light whichovercomes the darkness and weWILL walk in it.

We look forward to welcoming asmany as possible over theChristmas period to our churches. If anyone is in need of a visit orwould like their communionbrought to them please let the teamknow as soon as possible.

Every blessing to you all from theteam of ministers
