• More of the same this year - look out for some video tutorials

Dealing With an Oil or Fuel Spill on Water

1. Choose; Tackle the spill or call the authoritiesYour spill kit should contains enough absorbent material to clean up a 10 litre spill. For larger spills call the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60. Be ready to tell them your location.

2. Put on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves if needed

3. Isolate the source of oil/fuel if possible and easy to do so. E.g. turn off bilge pump

4. Place the floating boom around the spill to stop the oil or fuel from spreading.Float the mats on top of the oil or fuel to mop up the spill.Place all used materials into plastic bag supplied in spill pack.

5. Do not dispose in general waste.Place rubbish in special Oily Rag waste bin available at marina or hwrc

• Subjects to consider when delivering course:– Low phosphate benefits– Eutrophication– How to use pump out

Resource use – power

Page 20: IW Training Conference

•Various new regulations for facilities i.e. marina•Increased awareness•Better facilities •Cost saving for recycling
