Introduction: IVY Sailing Association

1

The Weihai Sailing Association was founded in

2011, with the IVY International Sailing

Training Base as its headquarters. IVY’s sailing

base is the largest, most professional and

comprehensive navigational training base in

Weihai. The Association aims to build on

Weihai’s maritime reputation by vigorously

promoting and popularizing sailing and

windsurfing in the local region through

cultivating sailing talents together with a sense

of adventure and ambition.

The training base in Shandong Province,

provides annual programs including, ‘Youth

Sailing’, ‘Bringing Sailing into the Campus’

and the ‘Sailing Summer Camp’. We have

already trained over 3000 primary and

secondary students from various cities,

regions and provinces.

2

Each year from mid-spring to mid-autumn, IVY

Sailing Club is open to all who are interested.

People can rent kayaks and sailboats, take

lessons or join up as members. It has also

become a very popular tourist spot for groups

to stop by and hang out.

The club has many different boats for students

to enjoy and train on:

• 44ft Mono Hull yacht

• Hobie Catamarans

• WETA Trimarans

• Laser Radial Boats

• OP Sailboats

ASA accreditation

1

The American Sailing Association introduced

certifications over 35 years ago. Today they

provide sailing schools worldwide with over

30 centres in China. Earning a certification

through ASA certified schools will not only

foster a sense of self-accomplishment, but it

will provide evidence of your new sailing

ability to the world, it also gives you the

confidence to maximize your experience.

Whether you are sailing a small boat across a

lake on a quiet afternoon, or watching the sun

come up on an ocean crossing, there is truly

no sport like sailing.

In March of 2018, the ASA’s instructor

certification and venue assessment officer, Ken

Brown, authorized Weihai IVY’s training base

as an accredited ASA sailing training centre.

During May of 2017, a number of our sailing

coaches also acquired the ASA small sailing

vessel certificates, further adding to their

expertise and qualifications.

Whether you’re already an active sailor or

have never set foot on a sailboat, IVY Sailing

program can offer you both exciting

opportunities to experience sailing, but also a

rich cultural experience to go with it.

Traditional Paper Cutting

& Tea Culture

Traditional paper cutting dates back to

the Eastern Han Dynasty around 25AD, at

the same time as paper became more

affordable.

You will learn about the centuries long

tradition of decorating windows and

doorways symbolizing good fortune and

happiness during festivals, weddings and

childbirth.

Also experience ancient tea culture; how

it is prepared as well as the occasions

when people enjoy tea in China.

Visit Famous Sites

Shandong Province, including the Weihai

local area offers many beautiful scenic

spots and historic locations to explore

during your time here.

Just a few hours drive away and you can

climb the steps to the summit of Mount

Tai, the eastern mountain of the Five

Great Mountains of China.

You can also visit Qufu, the birthplace of

Confucius and learn more about this

influential Chinese teacher, editor,

politician and philosopher. Discover

more about one of the great influences

shaping the lives of all humanity.

And of course, no trip to China would be

complete without a visit to the Great

Wall.
