      Celebrating 30 Years of Service

The  members  of  Alpha  Kappa  Alpha  Sorority,  Inc.,  Alpha  Kappa Omega Chapter established the Alpha Kappa Omega Educational and Charitable Foundation in 1981. Now known as the Ivy Educational and Charitable Foundation of Houston, Inc., it sought to realize a vision of a nancially  strong  and  independent organization  that would be  the charitable arm of our illustrious chapter, with its purpose of providing scholarships and perpetual service to our community. The foundation continues a tradition of giving to worthwhile causes and organizations such as the NAACP’s ACT‐SO; Dress for Success; Julia C. Hester House; Susan  G.  Komen  Breast  Cancer  Foundation;  Blue  Triangle  Multi‐ Purpose Center; United Negro College Fund; Hazel Hainsworth Young Library at Jack Yates High School and more.

The Annual Report  for the scal year 2011 of the IEACF conveys the milestones we have reached during our 30th

Anniversary. We have highlighted our  fundraisers and are grateful  for the support of our members, committees, sponsors, patrons, volunteers and Board of Directors for a year of exceptional achievements. THANK YOU!  Our 30th Anniversary Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show, “Empowering, Encouraging and Educating Youth” was viewed by most in attendance as a rst class event. We extend a special appreciation to the chairman and co‐chairman,  Tanya  Allen  Easter  and  Evelyn  E.  Thornton  respectively  for  their  leadership  and  all  the  committee members who worked tirelessly to ensure a successful and entertaining affair.  The foundation’s rst time Rock the Boat Scholar “Ship” Fundraiser Cruise sailed from Galveston with 53 members and  friends on October 20th  through  the 24th.   Hats off  to Cheryl Taylor, Glenniece Stewart and  their awesome team for a FUNtastic adventure. We showcased 10 extraordinary children with fashion and air at the 7th Biennial Kids’ Extravaganza,  “Remembering Our  Sacred Past, Celebrating Our Treasured  Future.” Accommodations  to  a dedicated committee led by Chantay Morris and Yavaunda White.  Everyone enjoyed a wonderful program.   I am extremely proud to announce the 30  for  30 Campaign  that inspired and encouraged our members to make special contributions  in  recognition of  the  foundation’s  thirtieth anniversary retired our endowment. Because of the hard work of  the  fundraising  committee  and  its  chairmen  Staci Taylor Fullmighter  and Lucy Bremond, we accomplished our goal of $100,000 set by the foundation, years ago.  We give special thanks for the vision of the incorporators of the IEACF, whose hope it was to continue the legacy ofraising funds for scholarships and charitable giving.   “The test we must set for ourselves is not to march alone, but to march in such a way that others will wish to join us.” Hubert Humphrey, U.S. Vice President  I would again like to thank you for your continued support of the Ivy Educational and Charitable Foundation of Houston, Inc. and as well, joining us in making a meaningful difference that honors our mission and improves the lives of many.  Gratefully,    Regina Horton Carrington, President Ivy Educational and Charitable Foundation of Houston, Inc. Regina Horton Carrington, President

Blue Triangle Multi‐Cultural Association, Inc.  One  of  the  oldest  community  facilities  in  the  historical Third Ward  has  been  supported  by  the  foundation  for over 20 years.   IEACF members support their fundraisers and volunteer for events that serve children and adults of all  ages.  Our  favorite  event  is  "Breakfast  with Santa."   Members bring holiday cheer  to all  the children as  Santa's  Helpers  by  donating  their  time,  talents  and resources to make the SEASON BRIGHT!

NAACPThe  foundation  is  a  long  time  sponsor and  provides  volunteer  support  to  the NAACP ACT‐SO Houston program. Academic, Cultural, Technological  and  Scientic  Olympics  is  a yearlong  achievement  program  designed  to

stimulate  and  encourage  high  academic  and  cultural  achievement among  African‐American  high  school  students.  'The Olympics  of  the Mind"  is  one  of  the most  inspiring  and  important  youth programs  in America.  Foundation members attend the Gala each year in support of our award winning ACT‐SO youth.

Generation Day at the Ensemble Theatre  The only African American Theatre  in our city serves as the back  drop  for  our  Generation  Day.  The  play, Cinderella  mesmerized  students  from  Woodson  K‐8th Leadership Academy, High School Leadership Development students as well as  the Finnegan Park Seniors. Our  support to  this  event has become a holiday  tradition  for  the  IEACF and these two generations.

United Negro College Fund

The belief that a mind  is a terrible thing to waste has been embraced  by the IEACF for many years.   We see it as our responsibility to    continue  and  support  the  cause to provide nancial support to college students in need.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Educational Advancement Foundation   We  contribute  annually  to  the  Educational Advancement  Foundation  of  Alpha  Kappa  Alpha  in their  educational  efforts  to  provide  scholarships  to deserving  students on a national basis and nancial  support  for other worthy  educational  causes.  EAF  scholarships  are  awarded  to undergraduates as well as graduate students.

Faye B. Bryant Scholarship IEACF  contributes  to  the Faye B. Bryant  Scholarship Fund.  Miss  Bryant  is  a  former  Executive  Deputy Superintendent  for  the Houston  Independent School District.  This  scholarship  fund  was  established  to acknowledge  the  academic  achievement  of  high

school students in the Houston area.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS HOUSTON Dress for Success Houston helps disadvantage women become economically self‐sufficient by providing them with professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools they need to nd employment and build a successful career. We supported the BUILDUPSUITUP capital campaign to help build a permanent home for Dress for Success Houston.  Fittingly, our gift will be recognized on the pathway leading to the entrance of their new building.

The foundation continues to help make it possible for Dress for Success Houston  to  help women  build  a  better  life  for  themselves  and  their families.

WOODSON K‐8th LEADERSHIP ACADEMY  This Houston Independent School District School  is located in the historical Sunnyside community. With a  strong  emphasis  on  academics,  teachers  are grooming their scholars to be leaders. Their motto is, “A  leader  is one who knows  the way, goes  the way, and  shows  the  way.”  The  Ivy  Educational  and Charitable  Foundation  of  Houston,  Inc.  purchased

uniforms  for  the  students and volunteered  their  time  throughout  the school year.

JULIA C. HESTER HOUSE   For many years the IEACF has contributed funds to  support  the  Julia  C.  Hester  House  and  it's mission  to  enhance  the  quality  of  lives  in  Fifth

Ward  and  surrounding  communities.  This  year  was  no  exception. Members  of  the  foundation  attended  the  2011  Annual  Awards Luncheon honoring George Forman,  former Heavyweight Champion of  the World  and  Lifetime member  of  the  Hester  House.  Julia  C. Hester  House  was  a  safe,  supportive  and  nurturing  environment, where George spent much of his time, as a youth.
