This manual applies to iVMS-4200 PCNVR.
This manual may contain several technically inaccurate points or printing errors, and the content is
subject to change without notice. The updates will be added into the new version of this manual. We
will readily improve or update the products or procedures described in the manual.

1. Overview
This guide provides only brief instructions on the installation, uninstallation, and some basic operations
such as the live view, record and playback of the PCNVR. For detailed information of how to use the
software, please refer to the iVMS-4200 PCNVR User Manual.
2. System Requirements
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP / Windows 2003 32-bit, Windows 7 / Windows 2008 32-bit
or 64-bit
CPU: Intel Pentium IV @ 3.00 GHz or above
RAM: 1G or above
Display: 1024*768 resolution or above
3. Deployment Schemes
iVMS-4200 PCNVR can be used in the local area network and the wide area network. In this document,
only some of the connection deployment schemes are displayed.
Note: In the real situation, the devices connected, such as the network camera, network dome cameras
and the encoders are scalable.
3.1 A Simplified Scheme
Application Scenario:
1. Only the recording and live view is needed.
2. Not too many front-end devices are connected.
Hardware required:
1. Network cameras, and/or encoders.
2. PC installed the iVMS-4200 PCNVR.

3. Hub or router.
Getting access to the network cameras and the encoders with the iVMS-4200 PCNVR, and store the
record files on the PC. This scheme is convenient and pragmatic for the small scale surveillance
scenario, such as in a shop or at home.
3.2 A Complete Scheme
In LAN Conditions
Application Scenario:
1. The video stream from the front-end encoding devices needs to be got by multiple clients.
2. There is no hard disk on the encoding device side or there are disks on the encoding device side,
but the record files need to be backed up for extra insurance.
Hardware required:
1. Network cameras, and/or encoders.
2. PCs installed the iVMS-4200 Client, Stream Media Server, and iVMS-4200 PCNVR respectively.
3. Mobile phones installed the iVMS-4500 Client.
4. Hub or router.
The iVMS-4200 PCNVR can connect and manage to the front-end network cameras and/or encoders,
and the iVMS-4200 client can be used to manage the PCNVR which provides relatively complete
function of the management. The stream media server can be adopted to forward the video stream get
from the front-end devices so as to lower the load of the front-end device in case too many network
connections. The web browsing and mobile phone monitoring functions are supported.

In WAN Conditions
Application Scenario:
1. When the iVMS-4200 PCNVR needs to be accessed in the wide area network.
2. The video stream from the front-end encoding devices needs to be got by multiple clients.
3. There is no hard disk on the encoding device side or there are disks on the encoding device side,
but the record files need to be backed up for extra insurance.
Hardware required:
1. Network cameras, and/or encoders.
2. PCs installed the iVMS-4200 Client, Stream Media Server, and iVMS-4200 PCNVR respectively.
3. Mobile phones installed the iVMS-4500 Client.
4. Router.
The iVMS-4200 PCNVR connected to the wide area network can get access to the devices in WAN,
and the iVMS-4200 PCNVR itself can also be accessed by the remote iVMS-4200 client. The remote
client can manage the devices through the PCNVR. The stream media server can be adopted to forward
the video stream get from the front-end devices to lower the load of the front-end device in case too
many network connections. The web browsing and mobile phone monitoring functions are supported.
4. Installation and Uninstallation
4.1 Installation
Insert the installation media into the appropriate computer.
Perform the following steps to install the iVMS-4200 PCNVR.
3. Double-click the program file to enter the welcome panel of the
InstallShield Wizard.

4. Click Next to start the InstallShield Wizard.
5. Read the License Agreement. Click Print if you want to print the license agreement.
If you accept the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the terms of license agreement.
Click Next to continue.
Otherwise click I do not accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Cancel to
cancel the installation
6. On the next panel, you are prompted for the name of the installation directory where PCNVR is to
be installed. You can either accept the default directory that is displayed, or click Browse and
select a different directory.
You can also click Choose Disk to choose the disk drive to install the software, and check the
space information of the disk on the panel.
Note: The default directory is C:\Program Files\iVMS-4200 Station\iVMS-4200 PCNVR.
Click Next to continue.

7. Read the pre-install information and click Install to begin the installation.
8. A panel indicating progress of the installation is displayed. A percentage completion bar is updated
as the installation progresses.
9. Read the post-install information and click Finish.
You can check the checkbox of create a desktop shortcut to create a shortcut icon on the desktop
for the PCNVR, and you can also check the checkbox of run the application to run the PCNVR
as the installation finished.

4.2 Uninstallation
Double-click the program file again, select Remove, click Next and click
Yes to uninstall the iVMS-4200 PCNVR according to the prompts.
5. Quick Start
5.1 User Login
Double-click the shortcut icon on the desktop to start the iVMS-4200 PCNVR software. The

login dialog box pops up as shown below:
Input the user name and password, and then click Login to run the software. The user name is admin
and password is 12345 by default.
5.2 Wizard for Importing Device
You enter the camera adding wizard interface of iVMS-4200 PCNVR after the login. This wizard helps
you to go through the basic operations of the PCNVR, such as adding cameras, pre-allocating the disk,
configuring record schedule, etc.
Perform the following steps to go through the wizard and study the operations provided.
Step 1: Start Guide
When there is no device added to the iVMS-4200 PCNVR, the wizard for importing device shows up
after you login the software. You can also open the wizard from the Help menu.
Click Next to continue. You can also click Cancel to exit the wizard.
Step 2: Disk Management
Disk management is the management of recording storage devices. Select one or more HDDs on the
disk list shown as follows:

Notes:
The total disk space for pre-allocation should be no less than channel number*0.5 G.
The pre-allocation function in the software won’t delete the original data of your disk. It just
pre-allocates the disk space for recording.
Click Next to continue. You can also click Previous to return to the previous step.
Step 3: Import Camera
Click Add to enter the Add Camera interface.
iVMS-4200 PCNVR provides 5 different adding modes: Online Detection, IP/Domain, IP Segment, IP
Server and hkDDNS.

The default camera adding mode is Online Detection. Select the channels to add, and input the user
name and password.
Click Add to add the selected channels to the software, and click Next to continue.
Notes:
The User Name and Password are admin and 12345 respectively by default.
Up to 64 channels can be added.
Step 4: Record Schedule
Select the camera added and click Edit.
The Modify Record Schedule interface shown as follows:

You can configure the record parameters and schedule template of the selected camera. And the motion
settings and capture settings are also allowed.
Click OK to save the new settings, and click Next to continue.
Step 5: Wizard Completed
The wizard is completed. Click OK to close the wizard interface.
5.3 Control Panel
iVMS-4200 PCNVR provides user friendly GUI for the convenient and effective operation of the
software. The main control panel of the software is shown below:

Menu Bar:
File
Open Captured picture Search the captured picture(s) from the start time to end
time.
Open Video File
Enter the video player and select the folder location of
the exported video file(s). You can also capture pictures
during the playing of the video file.
Open Log File Open the log file stored on your PC.
Auto Run Run the software automatically when you start your PC.
Exit Exit the iVMS-4200 PCNVR client.
System
Lock Lock the screen operation. Log in the client again to
unlock the operation.
Switch User Switch the login user.
Import Configuration
File
Import client configuration file from your computer.
Export Configuration
File
Export client configuration file to your computer.
Restore Default Settings Click to restore the default settings for the software.
View
1024*768 Display window at size of 1024*768 pixels.
1280*1024 Display window at size of 1280*1024 pixels.
1440*900 Display window at size of 1440*900 pixels.
1680*1050 Display window at size of 1680*1050 pixels.

About View information of the client software, including
company, software name, version, etc.
Language Select the language for the client software and reboot
the software to activate the settings.
There are 4 tabs on the control panel shown as follows:
Main View: The live view interface for all the added cameras.
Playback: The playback page for the record files.
E-map: On the E-map page you can link the location of the camera to the e-map and sub-map are also
supported.
Configuration: The configuration panel of the client software.
There are 8 icons on the configuration panel, and their functions are described in the following table:
Operating
Options
Import Camera Add, modify, delete or do remote configuration of the
camera.
Record Schedule Edit the record schedule by configuring the recording
parameters, schedule template and so on.
Management
Options
Event Management Configure the alarm source, linkage method and so on.
Account Management Add, modify or remove the user account parameters;
and assign operating permission to each user.
Disk Management Manage recording storage devices.
Configuration
options Camera Settings
Configure camera parameters including picture
settings, video quality, video display and PTZ control.

I/O Settings Manage alarm input/output, including the name and the
mode.
System Configuration Configure general parameters including saving path of
files, alarm sound, Email, etc.
5.4 Live View
Click tab to enter the live view interface. Drag the camera from the list to the right
display window, or double-click the camera node to view the live video.
There are 4 kinds of default views: 1-Screen, 4-Screen, 9-Screen, and 16-Screen. You are also allowed
to customize a new view according to your need.
Main View Toolbar:

Layout Select different layout modes.
Stop Live View Stop the display of all the cameras.
Auto Switch Start auto-switching the screen by cameras.
Volume Adjust the volume for live audio.
Full Screen Display video in full screen mode, click again to restore.

Capture
Start manual record, click it again to stop.
Remote instant playback about of current camera, you can choose the playback time.
To enter the auxiliary screen preview interface: View -> Auxiliary Screen Preview
Note: Up to 3 auxiliary screens can be configured.
5.5 Recording
2 kinds of recording modes are provided: Schedule Recording and Manual Recording.
Schedule Recording
In the schedule recording mode, the camera automatically starts/stops recording according to the
configured schedule.
Perform the following steps to configure the schedule recording.
1. Click on the control panel to enter the Record Schedule interface.
2. Select a channel and click Edit.

3. You can modify the recording parameters including pre-record time, post-record time, and video
expired time.
Pre-record: The time you set to record before the scheduled time or event. For example, when an
alarm triggered the recording at 10:00, if you set the pre-record time as 5 seconds, the camera
records it at 9:59:55.
Post-record: The time you set to record after the event or the scheduled time. For example, when
an alarm triggered the recording ends at 11:00, if you set the post-record time as 5 seconds, it
records till 11:00:05.
Expired Time: The expired time is the longest time for a record file to be kept in the HDD, if the
deadline is reached, the file will be deleted. You can set the expired time to 0, and then the file will
not be deleted. The actual keeping time for the file should be determined by the capacity of the
HDD.
4. Check the checkbox of Enable Record Schedule.
5. Select record template in the drop-down list. You can also click Edit to enter the templates editing
interface.

The All-day Template, Weekday Template and Alarm | Motion Template are not editable.
You can configure the templates from Template 01 to Template 08, and you are also allowed
to customize the template as desired in Customized mode.
Configuring the Template Settings
Steps:
(1) Select a template and click Edit on the top right side of the interface.
(2) You can edit the template name and the time schedule.
means normal scheduled recording. The schedule time bar is green.
means schedule recording for motion detection. The schedule time bar is
orange.
means schedule recording triggered by alarm . The schedule time bar is red.
means schedule recording triggered by alarm or schedule recording for
motion detection. The schedule time bar is purple.
When the cursor turns to , you can edit the schedule.
When the cursor turns to , you can move the schedule you configured.
When the cursor turns to , you can lengthen or shorten the time bar you
configured.
(3) Click Save to save the new settings.
(4) Click Confirm to exit the templates editing interface.
Note: Up to 8 time bars can be configured in each day.
Configuring the Motion Detection Area and Sensitivity
Steps:
(1) Click Motion Settings button on the Modify Record Schedule interface.

(2) Click and drag your mouse to draw an area.
(3) Drag the slider on the sensitivity bar to adjust the motion detection
sensitivity.

(4) Click Confirm to save the new settings.
6. Click Advanced Settings to configure the capture parameters, including the resolution, the
capturing quality, the capture interval, etc.
Note: The Advanced Settings function varies with the camera model.

Manual Recording
Manual recording (also called local recording) function allows you to record the live video in the Main
View mode, and the record file is recorded in the local PC that runs the iVMS-4200 PCNVR.
Steps:
1. In the main view interface, select a camera and double-click it or drag the camera to the display
window to view the live video.
2. Click on the toolbar of the display window to start to record the live video.
3. Click to stop recording.
You can change the saving path of the record files in the System Configuration interface.
5.6 Playback
Click tab to enter the Playback interface.
Playback Toolbar:

Playback Speed Bar
The playback speed can be set as 1/8x, 1/4x, 1/2x,
1x, 2x, 4x and 8x.

Open / Close the synchronous playback.
Stop All Stop the playback of all channels.

/ Pause / Play Pause / Play the playback of the video file.
Single Frame The video move forward to the next frame.
/ Volume Adjust the volume for live audio.
Full Screen Display video in full screen mode, click again to
restore.
Backup Back up the video file.
Normal Playback
Purpose:
Play back the video files created in local recording mode which is stored in your PC.
Steps:
1. Search the playback files.
Steps:
(1) Select the channels to play back in the camera list. You can also click to unfold the View tab
and select a view mode you configured before.
(2) Select a date on the calendar.
Note: If there are record files for that camera in that day. In the calendar, the icon for that day
is displayed as . Otherwise it is displayed as .
(3) Select the time period.
Click the icon , and a window pops up for time selection.
(4) Click Search, and the interface jumps to the File List page automatically.

Playback by Record Files
You can select a record file in the File List and click to play it in the playback interface.
Playback by Timeline
Steps:
(1) Click Playback tab to enter the playback interface.
(2) The timeline indicates the time duration for the record file.
You can click or to scaling up or scaling down the progress bar.
You can click or to go to the previous or the next time period.
You can click on the time bar and drag it to change the time.
(3) Click the icon and you can select the video type by checking the corresponding checkbox,
including Time, Motion Detection, Alarm, Alarm | Motion and Manual Recording.
(4) Click to play back the record file from the earliest segment. You can also click on the
timeline to display the record file of the specific time.

Start video clips. You can cut the video file into clips.
Capture picture in the playback of the video file.
Open / Close digital zoom.
Notes:
You can enable audio on only one channel at one time.
Up to 16 cameras can be searched for playback at the same time.
Event Playback
Purpose:
Play back the record files searched by restricting the event type.
Steps:
1. Click to unfold the Event tab, and select Motion Detection or Alarm Input.
2. Search the record files of different event type.
Steps:
(1) Check the checkbox of the camera or alarm input.
(2) Select a date on the calendar. Please refer the step (2) of Search the playback files in Section
Normal Playback.
(3) Select the time period. Please refer the step (3) of Search the playback files in Section Normal
Playback.
(4) Click Search, and the interface jumps to the Event List page automatically.

Simultaneous Playback
Purpose:
Play back multiple record files simultaneously.
Steps:
1. Search the playback files. Please refer to step1 of Section Normal Playback.
Note: At least 2 cameras need to be selected for search.
2. Select a channel and click on the timeline to show the video of the specific time.
3. Click to start simultaneous playback.
Instant Playback
1. Click to enter the Main View interface, and drag your mouse on the live view
window to enable the toolbar shown as below:
2. Click , and a list of time period pops up.
30s, 1 min, 3 min, 5 min, 8 min, and 10 min are selectable.
3. Select a time period to start instant playback.
Example: If the current time is 09:30:00, and you select 3 min, then the instant playback will start
from 09:27:00.
4. Drag the mouse on the playback window when the instant playback is on, and the toolbar will be
displayed.
Toolbar in each display window of live view:

Pause Give a pause to the instant playback of the record file.
Stop Stop the instant playback of the record file.
Speed down Decrease the speed of instant playback
Speed up Increase the speed of instant playback
Single Frame The video move forward to the next frame.
Capture Capture picture in the playback of the video file
/ Start / Stop Recording Start / Stop the manual record during the instant playback.
/ Audio Adjust the volume of the audio for the record file.
Mode Switching Switch to the mode of instant playback or live view.

5.7 E-map
Click tab to enter the E-map interface.
Adding an E-map
Purpose:
Relating a certain camera group to an E-map allows you to visualize the location and distribution of
cameras. The E-map is beneficial especially when the alarm is triggered.
Steps:
1. Click the icon in the E-map interface.
2. Enter the name of map, and select the map file from your local directory.

Note: The map format should be *. png, *. jpg or *. bmp.
3. Click Yes. The map shows on the display window and the name of it also appears on the map list.

Add alarm input hot spot on the map.

Add hot region on the map.
Remove selected hot spot from the map.
Switch to the previous map. This icon only shows in Map Preview mode.
Switch to the next map. This icon only shows in Map Preview mode.
Clear alarm display on the E-Map manually. This icon only shows in
Map Preview mode.
You can modify or delete the map by clicking Modify or Delete in Map Editing mode.
Note: Only one map can be added as the main map.
Hot Spot Function
Purpose:
You can add the camera or alarm input label in the map to show the actual location of the camera or
alarm input sensor. The label is called hot spot. You can see the live view of the camera in the map
preview interface and if there is an alarm triggered, the icon appears near the hot spot.
Adding a Hot Spot
Both the camera and the alarm input can be added as the hot spot.
Adding Camera as the Hot Spot
Steps:
1. Click in the map editing interface after the map is added.
2. Check the checkbox of linked camera. You can edit the color and icon of the hot spot. 7 kinds of
colors and 2 kinds of icons are selectable.
3. Click Yes to add the selected cameras.
4. You can double-click the camera label in Map Preview mode to get the live view of the hot spot.

Note: You can also click-and-drag the camera icon on the camera list to the map to add it as a hot spot.
Adding Alarm Input as the Hot Spot
Steps:
1. Click in the map editing interface after the map is added.
2. Check the checkbox of associated alarm input. You can edit the color and icon of the hot spot. 7
kinds of colors and 2 kinds of icons are selectable.
3. Click Yes to add the selected alarm inputs.
In Map Preview mode, if there is any alarm triggered, the icon appears near the hot spot.

You can click the icon for detailed alarm information, including alarm type and time.
Editing a Hot Spot
Steps:
1. Click the camera or alarm input label on the map after the hot spot added in Map Editing mode.
2. You can modify the properties, including the type, name, color, icon and associated camera or
alarm input sensor of the hot spot.
3. To delete a hot spot, select the hot spot on the map and click .
Hot Region Function
Before you start:
A map should be added as the main map (also called parent map).
Purpose:
The hot region function links a map to another map. You can add a map to another map as a hot region,
and the added map is called child map while the map to which you add the hot region is the parent
map.
Steps:
1. Add another map under the parent map.

2. Select the parent map on the left side bar and click .
3. Check the checkbox of the map in the pop-up window. You can edit the color and icon of the hot
region.
4. Click Yes to add the map as the hot region.
5. After adding, you can enter the sub-map interface by clicking the icon on the main map in Map
Preview mode, shown as following.
6. To delete a hot region, select the hot region icon on the map and click
You can also click-and-drag the sub-map icon on the list to the parent map to add the hot region.
Notes:
You can add up to 16 sub-maps under the main map.
The hot spots can also be added on the sub-map.

6. Exit System
Click File on the top menu and select Exit, or click on the top right corner of the main interface,
and then a confirmation dialog pops up. Click Yes to exit iVMS-4200 PCNVR.
