EASY STEPS TO YOUR OWN TV SHOWYes! You can have your own TV show on the New York Emmy-nominated Brooklyn Free Speech. The cool since 1988 Public Access television station empowers TV and film artists to make their dreams a reality.

In addition to certification courses which give you free access to our facilities and equipment, we also offer non-certification and free courses that can support your pro-duction process, enhance your résumé, and boost your overall media skill set.

Please Note: Becoming a Certified Community Producer is not a requirement to air a program on our channels. Visit BRICartsmedia.org/BFreeBK for more information. Certification courses are only open to Brooklyn residents over the age of 18.

1. Attend a free orientation at BRIC House or a Brooklyn Public Library location to gain free access to equipment, television studios, and facilities.

2. Become a Certified Community Producer by successfully completing one, or all of our certification courses.

3. Contact our programming department at 718.683.5643 to schedule airdates.

4. Watch your show on Brooklyn Free Speech or stream live at BRICartsmedia.org/BFreeBK.

TOTAL HOURS: 6 COST: $20 PREREQUISITE: Intro to Digital Photography or experience shooting in manual mode with a DSLR camera. This course covers common equipment setups, tips for getting great audio, lighting considerations, as well as common challenges and pitfalls of shooting video with DSLRs. It also provides the opportunity to record a short video with a DSLR.

Learn best practices for capturing clean audio in the field. Use various types of equipment such as microphones, field mixers, and digital audio recorders. Discuss tips to recognize and minimize distracting background noise, and make an “audio checklist” to ensure the best audio quality possible.
