The transaction to create the joint venture Beijing Pen- tair Water Jieming Co is sub- ject to government approval and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2006. “Through this transac- tion, Pentair Water gains greater local market knowl- edge and engineering capa- bilities for commercial and industrial systems integration initiatives in China, and sig- nificantly expands its access to an effective distribution network of more than 150 engineering product compa- nies,” said Richard Cathcart, Pentair vice chairman. “Fur- ther, we will secure new products including disk filtra- tion systems and low-cost mechanical valves and tanks tailored to the systems inte- gration segment and to China’s local market needs.” The joint venture will include sales offices in Yix- ing, Shanghai, Jinan, Guang- dong (Dongguan) and Xi’an. ITT INDUSTRIES BECOMES ITT CORPORATION ITT Industries Inc has offi- cially changed its name to ITT Corporation (see Fil- tration Industry Analyst, June 2006). The name change, approved by shareholders at the company’s annual meet- ing in May, ties in with ITT’s global branding initia- tive emphasising a single organisational identity cen- tered on the ITT name and the accompanying theme line, “Engineered for Life.” The company’s stock ticker sym- bol remains “ITT,” which it has used since September 2000. “In the global market- place, we find that our cus- tomers are becoming more interested in companies that offer total solutions, rather than those that simply supply components,” says Steve Lor- anger, chairman, president and chief executive officer of ITT Corporation. “A stronger ITT organisational brand better reflects our ability to offer these complete solu- tions which draw upon the strengths we have across all of our business units. We also think a unified ITT global brand plays an important role in helping us compete in recruiting and retaining the best talent around the world.” ITT Industries began trading as an independent company in December 1995 following the separation of the old ITT Corporation into three distinct companies. WHATMAN H1 SALES UP 8% In a trading update for the six months ended 30 June 2006, separations supplier Whatman plc reports an 8% increase in revenues compared with the same period in 2005, excluding the effect of exchange rates. Sales were driven by strong demand from What- man’s major LabSciences distributors and a good per- formance from the Bio- Science business, notably FTA (forensics) in Europe. Whatman says that customer service levels have been maintained and that the final round of plant consolidations is nearing completion. “Overall, this has been a satisfactory first half perfor- mance, consolidating the strong start to the year. We are on track to achieve the 6–8% revenue growth targets set out at the start of the year,” said Bob Thian, chair- man of Whatman. Whatman will announce its interim results on 11 Sep- tember 2006.
