RELAX, BREATHE, ENJOY TODAY!By Mayo Clinic staff

Stress basicsStress is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the ever increasing demands of life. Surveys show that most Americans experience challenges with stress at some point during the year. In looking at the causes of stress, remember that your brain comes hard-wired with an alarm system for your protection. When your brain perceives a threat, it signals your body to release a burst of hormones to fuel your capacity for a response. This has been labeled the "fight-or-flight" response. Once the threat is gone, your body is meant to return to a normal relaxed state. Unfortunately, the nonstop stress of modern life means that your alarm system rarely shuts off.

That's why stress management is so important. Stress management gives you a range of tools to reset your alarm system. Without stress management, all too often your body is always on high alert. Over time, high levels of stress lead to serious health problems. Don't wait until stress has a negative impact on your health, relationships or quality of life. Start practicing a range of stress management techniques today.

Stress reliefDo you know anyone who isn't at times stressed out these days? The pace of modern life makes stress management a necessary skill for everyone. Many people juggle multiple responsibilities, work, home life, caregiving and relationships. Learning to identify problems and implement solutions is the key to successful stress reduction.

The first step in successful stress relief is deciding to make a change in how you manage stress. The next step is identifying your stress triggers. Some causes of stress are obvious — job pressures, relationship problems or financial difficulties. But daily hassles and demands, such as commuting, arranging day care or being overcommitted at work, can also contribute to your stress level. Positive events also can be stressful. If you got married, started a new job and bought a new house in the same year, you could have a high stress level. While negative events in general are more stressful, be sure to also assess positive changes in your life.

Once you've identified your stress triggers, you can start thinking about strategies for dealing with them. Sometimes the solution may be as easy as turning off the TV when the evening news is too distressing. Or, when you can't avoid a stressful situation, try brainstorming ways to reduce the irritation factor. And don't feel like you have to figure it out all on your own. Seek help and support from family and friends. You may want to ask them what stress-relief techniques have worked well for them. And many people benefit from daily practice of stress reduction techniques, such as mindfulness, tai chi, yoga, meditation or being in nature.

Stress won't disappear from your life. And stress management isn't an overnight cure. But with practice, you can learn to manage your stress level and increase your ability to cope with life's challenges.

Relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques are an essential part of stress management. If you're an overachiever, you may put relaxation low on your priority list. Don't shortchange yourself. There are active ways of achieving relaxation. Relaxation is invaluable for maintaining your health and well-being, and repairing the toll that stress takes on your mind and body.

Almost everyone can benefit from learning relaxation techniques. Relaxation techniques help to slow your breathing and to focus your attention on the here and now. The concept of enjoying the moment we are living in, rather than being worried about what could happen in the future. Common relaxation techniques include meditation, mindfulness, tai chi and yoga. For a more active approach, walking outdoors or participating in a sporting sports activity can be relaxing.

It doesn't matter which relaxation technique you choose. What matters is that you select a technique that works for you and that you practice achieving relaxation regularly.

As a young boy in Charlotte, North Carolina, he remembers his mother taking him to the pediatrician. He liked his pediatrician very much, and at that time, he believed all doctors were surgeons. “They (doctors) would see patients in the office, and then they would go operate.”

From that point, he was so inspired that he entered into the field of healthcare, later to become a surgical specialist: Keith G. Chisholm, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Chisholm’s source of inspiration was not limited to his pediatrician. His father was a Junior High School biology teacher and his mother, a registered nurse for what would become 40 years. It was in his blood. However, he was not initially driven to become a doctor.

Dr. Chisholm attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and majored in biology. “I wasn’t ready to become a doctor or a surgeon,” he confided. “I thought it would be too difficult.”

His educational curriculum emphasized pharmacy, in which he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. During the summer of 1994, he completed an internship with Eli Lilly, a leader in the pharmaceutical industry. But it wasn’t until a couple of his childhood friends encouraged him, that he began to entertain the notion of continuing on to Medical School.

Dr. Chisholm earned his Doctorate in Medicine from UNCCH, and completed his residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he became a surgeon. Having performed thousands of mock surgeries on mannequins that would actually bleed, he became proficient at his craft.

He began private practice at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, and performed “lots of surgeries. Lots!” He continued in private practice at Shands Community Hospital, where he met his wife of ten years, Staci, who just happened to be visiting a relative.

Dr. Chisholm and Staci relocated to the Tampa Bay area in 2011, where they are raising two daughters, Kennedy, (6) and Karsyn (1). “There are a variety of fun things to do around here”, Dr. Chisholm acknowledged. “Golf, the beaches, restaurants, museums. There’s a lot to do!”

However, Dr. Chisholm performs 6- 12 surgeries /week on average, so leisure time is not always on his side. He operates at Medical Center of Trinity, and Florida Hospital North (Helen Ellis Memorial) in Tarpon Springs.

MCT is the only hospital in Pasco, North Pinellas, Hillsborough and Hernando Counties that offers robotic surgical options, which are his specialty. Gall bladders, hernias, colon resections, and appendectomies are the most prevalent in this geographical region, due to the median age of residents. Although, in practice as a general surgeon with expertise in robotics, Dr. Chisholm sees a little of everything!

“I guess laparoscopic colon surgery would be my favorite,” he confesses, “because it is technically challenging. I can take out one- or two-feet segments through one, three-inch incision. It used to take an eight-inch cut in the middle of the patient’s belly to do the same thing!”

Studies have shown laparoscopic surgery has many advantages to patients, including faster recovery times, less pain, and decreased disruption to the anatomy, especially beneficial to cancer patients.

Dr. Chisholm opened his new office, Surgical Specialists of Trinity in early March 2013. Office hours are 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday. However, these hours may vary based on surgery schedules and emergency cases.

Please contact Surgical Specialists of Trinity at 727-372-0400. Dr. Chisholm’s office is located at 10751 Maple Creek Dr., Suite 103, Trinity Professional Place, at the corner of Duck Slough and Trinity Boulevard. You are also invited to visit www.SSTsurgery.com.

Breakfast in bed is a wonderful way of telling someone that he or she is special. Certainly breakfast in bed is appropriate on Valentine's Day or Mother’s Day or his or her birthday but it's also a way to make any day special. Don’t forget birthdays and anniversaries. And complete surprises are always nice. Consider it often. Get the kids involved and make Mother’s Day or Father’s Day a family day—the kids will have as much fun as mom or dad. Breakfast in bed doesn’t have to be elaborate; it’s the thought that counts the most. But these tips will add a touch to make the day more memorable and make the event go a little smoother.

• If it’s your wife’s birthday and you’re a complete klutz in the kitchen, don’t despair. Call one of her favorite restaurants and choose her favorite from the menu. Sneak out and get it and lovingly present it just as if you had slaved away in the kitchen.

• If it’s Mother’s Day and fixing breakfast with the kids seems like something out of a Stephen King movie, you need to buckle up your courage—and make a trip to McDonalds. Serve Mom in bed and spread a blanket on the floor for a kiddie picnic.

• Avoid the crumbs. If you don’t have a proper tray, improvise and spread a tablecloth over the bed as a crumb catcher.

• Layer on the extra touches. Use the best china and silverware. Present the meal with a linen napkin. Put a chocolate, a cookie, or a small bowl of candies on the tray.

• Add a special love note, poem, or scripture. If the kids are involved, have them make special “I love you cards” all colored and reflecting their own creativity.

• Try adding a special gift even if it’s not his or her birthday—maybe toiletries or something relating to an interest or hobby.

• Add a single rose or flower to the tray. • Bring the newspaper or include his or her favorite

magazine. If you have a TV in the bedroom, tape the program that your spouse never seems to have time to watch and play it during breakfast or better yet, while you are doing the cleanup.

• Cater to her or his special interests and appetites. If he is a fisherman, stop by the tackle shop and pick up a fishing fly or gadget. (Yep, those guys in the fly shop will help you make the selection.) For her, if she collects elephants, stop by the gift shop and pick up a small ceramic elephant to adorn the tray.

• Save time in the morning by using a mix or premixing whatever you can the night before. Most muffin batters can be mixed the night before and stored in the refrigerator.

• Don’t forget the cleanup. A dirty kitchen spoils the effect of a thoughtful meal in bed.

What to Serve: 12 Easy IdeasHere are a dozen quick and easy ideas to make the breakfast in bed occasion a little easier.

1. Pancakes are always easy—especially with a mix. You can make them special with a topping or by adding something as a filling. Cranberries, nuts, applesauce, or chocolate chips are popular considerations.

2. French toast is always easy. Add a little extra cinnamon or nutmeg and maybe some vanilla extract or orange flavoring.

3. Scrambled eggs can be quick and easy. Make it special with bacon bits and cheddar, or sausage, or sautéed vegetables. Nearly anything that you can do to an omelet, you can do to scrambled eggs.

4. Strawberries and cream make for an elegant but easy breakfast dish.

5. You can make a bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal in the microwave. Add dried cherries, pineapple, or nuts to make the cereal special.

6. Pick a granola that he or she likes and serve it as a cereal.

7. Cut fresh fruit and present it in an attractive bowl or on a platter.

8. Pick up hot bagels and different flavors of cream cheese.

9. Make muffins from a mix.

10. Try broiling a grapefruit half topped with a sprinkling of brown sugar.

11. Consider a fruit smoothie. Use your blender and his or her favorite fruit--fresh or frozen--along with a scoop of ice cream and a little extract.

12. When all else fails, pick up a coffee cake or a pastry from the bakery. Better yet, use a mix and make it yourself.

The Un-Boring Fiber for Smart FoodiesPosted by renewlifesupport in Fiber Supplements Fiber. Seriously, is there any nutrient more boring than fiber? The mere thought of fiber conjures up images of Grandma’s clumpy, untasty glasses of fiber mix. Or perhaps you imagine the boring foods you will have to eat by the truckload—foods like bran flakes, beets, and beans, beans, beans. Think again. ReNew Life is reinventing the way you think about, and eat, fiber. By now you’ve probably heard how much ReNew Life founder and President, Brenda Watson, wants you to eat more fiber. Fiber is the surprising appetite controller, the amazing heart health nutrient, and the great colon regulator. A high fiber intake does more for your overall health than all the low-fat, empty promise diet foods you can name and still Americans consume less than half of the fiber they should (around 15 grams daily instead of the recommended 20–35). But really, who can eat that much fiber? You can thanks to our new Fiber Smart Healthier Fiber line that really does offer a fiber supplement for everyone (not just Grandma). Fiber Smart supplements are made without any harsh fiber types such as psyllium and without any artificial ingredients, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. They are great way to boost your fiber intake along with a healthy, high fiber diet.

• Orange Clear Fiber – This 100% soluble corn fiber mixes clear in water without a thick or gritty texture. It tastes like a fresh orange for those who like a yummy fiber option and helps to promote digestive health and maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

• Clear Fiber – For the purists among us who just want a clear mixing soluble corn fiber that does its job without any fuss, flavor, or strange texture. At 3 grams of heart-healthy fiber per teaspoon it’s an easy way to mix more fiber into your diet.

• Super Fruit Fiber – Antioxidants anyone? This fiber includes 14 concentrated antioxidant-rich fruit extracts and a soluble/insoluble fiber blend from corn and apple fibers. It promotes healthy digestion, bowel regularity, and helps neutralize free radicals.

• Natural Triple Fiber – The triple threat fiber for occasional constipation and toxin build-up. There is nothing in this fiber blend except for soluble/insoluble flax, oat bran, and acacia fibers. It curbs appetite by helping you feel full, relieves occa-sional constipation, promotes healthy digestion, and helps remove digestive toxins.

Hair color trends for spring and summer are full of color play. Ombres, reverse dip-dyes and peek-a-boo pops of brights are the rage among celebrities — will you be lured in by one of these trends?

Ombre (sometimes called dip-dyeing) is a coloring technique that looks like you bleached your dark hair blonde, then let the roots grow out several inches, resulting in several inches of dark hair that transitions into light ends.

But this season’s ombre is more restrained than in the past, said hairstylist Jamie Roark of DK Salon.

“I have noticed the trend growing more subtle but also transitioning a lot into clothes,” she said.

The light-to-dark shading technique has indeed bled into apparel trends, nail art and even makeup — think lipstick that blends from a deep red on top through shades of red and pink, into an almost nude shade at the bottom. Or throw in sunset shades of yellow and orange.

These warm sunset shades are being worked in to ombre hair color techniques to take the edge off the transition, warm up the trend for the season and look more natural.

Another twist is Jessica Simpson’s reverse ombre with blonde at the roots slowly transitioning into butterscotch then a darker, caramel brown at the ends.

Equally popular are intensely colorful peek-a-boo color pops, Roark said.

These colors are surreally bright hues of reds, blues and purples, with pastels another popular option.

These colors can be applied in an ombre style, in rainbow fashion using several shades, as an all-over color or temporarily with clip-in colorful hair extensions.

If the absence of color is more your style, platinum blonde is also a huge trend for spring and summer.

10 Tips to Help You Get Fit ~ FAST!Get the most out of your workouts with these 10 tips!

1. Get fit with H.I.T. Get the most impact and maximize every minute with H.I.T. (high-intensity interval training). You can cut your workout short without shortchanging your results. For each exercise, go as hard as you can for 50 seconds and rest for 10 seconds: jump rope, high knees, burpees, mountain climbers, lunge jumps, squats, fast feet, speed skaters, jumping jacks, pushups and ab crunches.

2. Muscle Up Limit your weight workouts to 60 minutes. After an hour your body produces more cortisol - a stress hormone - that can actually impede muscle-building.

3. Get a Grip Before you do arm curls, wrap a towel around the bar. It’ll strength-en your grip. The towel makes the bar thicker, and that makes your forearm muscles work harder.

4. Less Pain, More Gain Count your reps backward. Toward the end of your set, you will think about the reps you have left instead of the number you’ve already completed.

5. Breathe, Baby, Breathe Want to focus your abs to work harder? During sets of abdominal crunches, exhale strongly at the top of each movement.

6. Run Like You Mean It Increase your speed and endurance by dividing your run into thirds. Run slowly for the first third, go at a normal pace in the middle third and then run even faster at the end.

7. Take Five If you only have five minutes for fitness, where’s what to do with them: 1 minute of plyometric lunges, 1 minute standing broad jumps or speed skaters, 1 minute of high knees, hold plank position for 1 minute and 1 minute of push ups. This workout doesn’t require gym equipment, so no excuses - you can do this (almost!) anywhere!

8. Track Results Every few weeks, measure something like body fat or waist size that correlates to your 90-Day Challenge goal. You’ll see tangible short-term results that will motivate you to keep going for it.

9. Sara Moylan (Vi Model Finalist) says: Switch it Up “90 days is a great gauge for taking new turns in your fitness endeavors,” said Moylan, a pro fitness competi-tor and a ViSalus Challenge Promoter from Jenison, MI. “You have to constantly modify or your body will quit responding.” Some ways to switch it up: update your playlist, try a new workout routine or pick a new 90-Day Challenge goal.

10. Johnny Gonzalez (Vi Model Finalist) says: Create a Workout Plan Gonzalez, a personal trainer and a ViSalus Challenge Promoter from Rapid City, SD, says the most important thing to do is to get goals every time you walk into the gym. “Compete with yourself day in and day out,” Gonzalez said. To bust out of a workout funk, he changes up the weight, reps and tempo in his strength-training work-outs and alternates his cardio with boxing and track sprints.

The younger generations are aging faster—and worse—than their parents. Here’s how to keep your metabolism in check and make your youth and beauty last.

Have you ever worried that you’re going to turn into your parents? Well, if you’re not careful it’s going to happen sooner than you think—and in ways you might not have expected.

An April 2013 paper in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that when it comes to metabolic health (basi-cally, how well your body uses insulin to process the sugar in your blood), today’s 45 year olds are on par with 60 year olds of the generations before them. What does that mean for 20- and 30-somethings? Well, you do the math: Just add 15.

The study measured various aspects of metabolic health, including the prevalence of being overweight or obese and body mass index (BMI). All three are notably higher in young people today than they had been in the past, with obesity among women in their 20s up twofold from a generation earlier. That means that a 20-some-thing is two times more likely to be obese by her 30s than a woman 10 years older than she is. These scary generation shifts were seen nearly across the board for both men and women.

Poor metabolic health isn’t just about whether you can eat as much as your friend Sally without gaining weight. It’s the first step on the slippery slope to a heap of problems, from increased belly fat to obesity to type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cho-lesterol. But fear not! You’re not destined to go down this road. Though there is a genetic component at play, you can control your metabolic health. Good lifestyle and eating habits will help you stay healthy and keep from aging ahead of your years.

Here’s what you need to do:

Get MovingWe’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Regular physical activ-ity—whether at the gym or by speed walking to work and actively tending your lawn—is a key to keeping your body humming along. Thirty minutes of aerobic exercise, five days a week helps you stay at a healthy weight, decreases damaging inflammation, helps regulate blood pressure and cholesterol and supports your system’s ability to use insulin efficiently. We’d really like you to take ten thousand steps every day. Start small and build (and by the way, a pedometer is much easier than counting).

Eat SmartYou know when you’re looking at a package of snack cakes that they’re not good for you. But do you really stop to think about what they’re doing? Routinely filling up on carbohydrates from white flour (cakes, white bread, rice) and tons of added sugar (why else would those treats taste so sweet?) forces your body to pump out more and more insulin to break down the torrent of sugar rushing through your bloodstream. Eventually, your body gets so used to those levels of insulin that the same amount doesn't work anymore. That’s called insulin resistance, and it’s just a step away from type-2 diabetes. What’s more, packaged foods are full of trans fats, which contribute to high cholesterol. That snack doesn't seem so so sweet after all, does it?

Skip the SodaDid you think that just because diet soda was calorie-free that it was guilt-free, too? Sorry to break it to you, but even drinking diet sodas is associated with a higher risk of metabolic syndrome, a nasty combination of many of the risk factors of metabolic aging. The sugar and corn syrup in regular (sugared) soda is a major source of calories and a leading culprit in this country’s fight with obesity. Surprisingly, the no-calorie sweetener in diet drinks may be dangerous, too. One study showed that having more than one soft drink a week—whether regular or diet—was associated with a 44 percent increase in the risk of metabolic syndrome among 50 year olds. One theory is that the high sweetness of diet drinks causes people to crave sweet foods, eating more sugar in the end. Another thought is that some ingredients in artificial sweeteners might lead to insulin resistance or inflammation. Either way, steer clear and go for black coffee, natural teas, water or seltzer instead.

Have you ever self-diagnosed on the basis of symptoms? Have you Googled them to see what malady your body is battling? I’m guilty of doing those very things, and fortunately, my foolish stubbornness did not end up more tragically.

I was busy trying to prepare for an impromptu trip to Savannah, GA., and I forgot to eat. By 3:00 in the afternoon, my fiancé, Mike, and I were on the road, and I was feeling queasy. We stopped for some fast food to sustain us, and on the other side of Gainesville, I lost it! I was sick, and my belly hurt.

We got to Savannah, and as soon as I could lie down, I did, and I was down all weekend. I sipped on Sprite. I nibbled on saltines. I took over-the-counter meds for pain and other symptoms. I asked my fian-cé and future mother-in-law, to Google my symptoms. I did everything I could to treat my self-diagnosed condition of food poisoning from the fast food, OR the horrible stomach flu that was “going around.”

I survived the weekend and managed my symptoms for several days, until my fever spiked. I could no longer put it off…see a doctor. Mike took me to Urgent Care of Trinity, and the physician sent me straight

to Medical Center of Trinity Emergency Room. After a CT scan, I was accurately, professionally, medically diagnosed with Acute Appendicitis.

Dr. Keith Chisholm was the magnificent surgeon that performed the appendectomy, and he was amazed that I had been suffering with appendicitis for six days! I was lucky, he said. My appendix fell apart as he was laparoscopically removing it. Because I waited too long before seeking help, I had to deal with extra days in the hospital and infection.

The staff at Medical Center of Trinity was wonderful from the time I entered until the moment I was released. The private room was greatly appreciated when I was struggling with pain and sleepless nights. Even the food was better than I anticipated hospital food being. I wish I could thank each nurse and staff member individually for their expertise, care and compassion.

Medical Center of Trinity is of the highest caliber, and I HIGHLY recommend the facility. I DO NOT recommend self- and/or Google diagnostics. See a professional before it’s too late!

When I was asked to pen an article for this issue of IT’s YOUR HOME, with the themes being Family, Health and Mothers Day, I had to allow my “heart” to give me the answer. With so volatile happenings and times in the world today, I wanted to write about the miracle inside each of us the moment we become life. It is my intention to leave something that is thought provoking, yet, light, simple, and easy to process.

I sum it up in the one and only four-letter word that is a MIRACLE in and of itself. It is an emotion that can be compared to none other. The only feeling that can empower us on a daily level, making everything good, honest, sincere, compassionate, purposeful, with direction and understanding, to build solid relationships and have success and prosperity in everything we call our life experience. A four-letter word that will immediately physiologically and scientifically change ones “heart coherence”, just by thinking it and feeling it… LOVE.

Yes… LOVE. Oh how I, as a new Mother, experienced this emotion while expecting my beautiful sons. They were both born on February 16th. I call them my twins “six years apart!” The Miracle of this LOVE and the LOVE of others has sustained me my entire life and continues to envelop me. I hold deep gratitude for this miracle of LOVE for my family, friends and all who “sit in my front row!”

In this particular issue, I would like to impart this emotion of LOVE and hope that we can share it worldwide. It is in my opinion, the ONLY way to “make a difference” in this world, is one heart at time. Here is how we can make the effort:

We are 6,658,000,000+ people strong! IMAGINE what would happen if we all did it together!

What if we all felt more genuine appreciation of one another and for our planet? What if there was one simple thing each one of us could do to help create a positive change for humanity and our planet?

What if we each did something to not only benefit ourselves but those around and close to us, healing our planet in the process?

Science has shown that positive emotions have beneficial effects on ALL living organisms: people, animals, plants, even water. Are YOU interested in doing one thing- just one simple thing- to “make a difference?”

Join people around the world, connecting hearts to actively appreciate planet earth. Take a moment and focus on the area around the heart. Recall the feeling of appreciation as you witness a spectacular sunset. Feel the exhilaration standing atop a mountain. Capture the LOVE felt while watching a family at play on the beach, or a precious loved one of your own. Bring that feeling of appreciation into an area of your heart and IMAGINE you are radiating this feeling out to the planet.

IMAGINE one million more people doing the same thing! IMAGINE…it is only the beginning!

Pass it on.

Presented on Earth Day by HeartMath Institute in a beautiful video available for view on my official website, www.barbaramarville.com. It is my favorite “feel good” video, but the message is even stronger. When we have the feeling of LOVE, LOVE can change everything… everything!

In closing, I hope you gleaned something positive, and the feeling of LOVE- even if for a brief moment- allows you to be at peace, with tranquility, thinking of these words: When times get hectic and out of sorts, always remember, the Miracle of LOVE will sustain you!

Inspiringly Yours With LOVE,

Barbara Marville-Kelly

"Arry's Roofing exceeded my expectations," writes Diane W. from Clearwater. "From my salesman, Chuck, through the design and installation teams, the quality of workmanship was excellent. Customer service is a priority and that shows in every level of the company. I highly recommend Arry's as a professional roofing company."

Tarpon Springs, Florida – The national No Roof Left Behind ini-tiative has found sponsorship in Pinellas County. Local company, Arry’s Roofing, is now accepting nominations for the free roof on their website, www.ArrysRoofing.com.

There are a few conditions for the program. Nominees must own the home they are living in and be a resident of Pinellas County. Also, the free roof recipient must be current on his/her mortgage payments. Nominees will be accepted until July 19, 2013. A team of local volunteers will review all the nominees and four will be selected as finalists.

The four finalists’ stories and photos will be displayed on Arry’s Roofing’s No Roof Left Behind homepage. From August 2-September 6, 2013 the public will able to vote on the finalist they feel is most deserving. The roof winner will be revealed online on September 9, 2013 and the installation celebration will be held shortly thereafter.

The Housh family is celebrating 23 years in the roofing industry. “We don’t just work in Pinellas County. We live here, shop here and have raised our families here. We wanted to let the commu-nity know just how important they are to us,” says Arry Housh, president of Arry’s Roofing. “We have always been involved in community projects since we started our business. Giving away a

free roof seemed like a logical way to do that, and this is a very creative way to get the community to join us.”

One of the most important things for the Arry’s Roofing family is community outreach. When a fellow contractor from Detroit, MI highlighted the No Roof Left Behind program as a way to thank communities for their support, Arry Housh knew it would be a great fit for the big hearted team at Arry’s Roofing. “We are just so excited about implementing a philanthropic program like this at home,” says Arry. “It is just a natural fit here in Pinellas County. We recognize that not everyone can afford to get his or her roof replaced. But having a secure roof overhead can bring peace of mind to a family in need.”

Other local businesses are asked to show their community appreciation as well. “We think it’s a great way to rally the community together,” offers Matthew Housh, vice president of Arry’s Roofing. “That’s why we’re inviting other Pinellas County businesses to show support by way of donations. You don’t have to swing a hammer or even get dirty to help out. Just give us a call and we’ll find a place for you.”

For more information about Arry’s Roofing, their No Roof Left Behind program and interviews with Arry Housh or Matthew Housh, please call 727-938-4288 or visit www.ArrysRoofing.com.

Sinks and drains take the brunt of kitchen cleanup duties, and they boast the scars and smells to prove it. Rather than reach for harsh commercial cleaners and de-cloggers, opt instead to green clean.Make a non-toxic sink cleanerCommercial stainless cleaners can run upwards of $10 a bottle, and they work no better than common household items. Add a few drops of a natural dishwashing liquid such as Mrs. Meyer’s ($4.50 for 16 ounces) or Method ($4 for 25 ounces) to warm water and use the solution to clean the surface of the sink. For hard mineral deposits, try squeezing lemon juice onto them, allowing them to sit a few minutes before wiping them away.

Make a simple scouring pastePowdered cleaning products often contain harsh abrasives, corrosive chemicals, and eco-disastrous phosphates. Try making your own scratch-free paste by blending three parts baking soda to one part water.De-stink your sinkIf your sink stinks, try cleaning the drain with a paste made of vinegar and baking soda, both natural deodorizers. Simply sprinkle a quarter cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by an equal amount of vinegar. Give it time to work overnight. In the morning, rinse it all away with some boiling water.Clear drain clogs without chemicalsChemical drain cleaners work by blasting away clogs with caustic, corrosive ingredients like lye, bleach, and potash. Needless to say, they can be murder on your pipes. The simplest remedy is often boiling water, which melts away the grease at the cost of almost nothing. For more stubborn clogs, pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain followed immediately by half a cup of vinegar. The chemical reaction that occurs will safely—and cheaply—blast away clogs.

The checks for Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley borrowers covered under the foreclosure review settlement should be mailed out Friday, May 3, the Federal Reserve announced Monday.

The next batch of payments will go out to more than 220,000 borrowers who had a mortgage in any stage of the foreclosure process in 2009 and 2010 that was serviced by one of the former subsidiaries, Litton Loan Servicing LP or Saxon Mortgage Services, Inc. The checks for the borrowers are valued at $247 million.

The payments result from agreements reached in January with federal regulators and 13 servicers that replaced the Independent Foreclosure Review. Under the new agreement, the servicers must provide $3.6 billion in cash payments to 4.2 million borrowers.

Checks were first mailed on April 12, with the third wave of checks released April 26. Since then, 1.2 million checks valued at $1.2 billion have been cashed or deposited, according to the Fed’s announcement.

Payments for the borrowers range from $300 to more than $125,000, and payment amount is based how borrowers were categorized after determining the stage of the foreclosure process of the borrower and the type of servicer error, if any. However, the Fed stated that the payment amounts for Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley borrowers may differ in some cases from borrowers in the same categories with the other 11 servicers because Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley borrowers were not able to request a review of their foreclosure file.

The other 11 servicers—Aurora, Bank of America, Citibank, HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, MetLife Bank, PNC, Sovereign, SunTrust, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo—were part of consent orders issued in 2011 that required an Independent Foreclosure Review at the request of the borrower.

Borrowers with the 13 servicers are advised to call the paying agent, Rust Consulting with their questions or to update contact information. Rust consulting can be reached at 1.888.952.9105. The Fed also warned of scams and said to beware of anyone asking borrowers to call a different phone number or to pay a fee to receive payment under the agreement.

When the ground opened up in Seffner and swallowed a man whole and alive as he had just retired to bed, people in Tampa Bay, in Florida, across America and the World were awakened to a tragic reality that sinkholes are dangerous and fatal possibilities that exist right here in our own communities.

Families and homeowners quickly became acutely aware of the devastation sinkholes can cause when Jeff Busch died that fateful night. However, Brian Lipsey, President of Global Ground Solutions, wakes up every morning knowing his company is saving people’s most valuable assets: their homes, and quite possibly, their lives.

“This is something I have done most of my life, feel very passionate about, and take a lot of pride in doing,” Brian explained. “By upholding our high quality of workmanship and providing the best consumer service to our clients, their families will once again feel safe and secure in the one place they should: their homes.”

Global Ground Solutions is an innovative ground modification and sinkhole repair company that specializes in residential and commercial projects throughout Florida. The company’s profile clearly states that their team is “dedicated to using only the highest quality personnel, equipment and repair programs in the ground modification industry.”

This means everything when protecting your home and your family. The Smith family wrote, “Our home was number eleven with a sinkhole issue on our street. We watched several of the homes being repaired. It wasn’t until you company contracted with our next-door neighbor that we realized there was one company, Global Ground Solutions that was far superior to the others.”

Additional testimonials boast the same about Brian’s company and the professionalism and high quality workmanship demonstrated by the Global Ground Solutions team. With more than 34-years combined experience, these contractors know what they’re doing and pride themselves on doing the job right the first time, with little or no aesthetic damage to the property!

Their services include pressure grouting, compaction grouting, chemical grouting, slurry grouting, underpinning, micro piles, auger case piles and grade beams.

A 20-foot, self-contained trailer was designed for Global Ground Solutions to house everything necessary to complete their projects and the drilling process. This means there is no need to unload heavy equipment onto a customer’s yard. To protect

the area further, they use plastic, 4ml thick, under the concrete trucks and pump to protect roads from oil, fuel, or concrete spills. The Global Ground Solutions advanced equipment is second to none. They are the only company offering two-laser transmits to monitor structure and ground movement from three to four sides. This offers two different perspectives on ground movement, thereby providing the most comprehensive ground movement examination available.

The hydraulics, the grout injectors and the in-line gauges were all designed to operate effectively and efficiently so projects are completed right on schedule, and at, or under, the proposed budget!

Brian admits, “When I worked for other companies, the decisions were based on profits. Now, as owner and President of Global Ground Solutions, I am able to base my decisions on doing the very best job, which sometimes cuts into our profits.”

His passion stems from the experience he’s cultivated over the last 15 years. Brian has completed more than 1000 residential jobs including single and multi-story homes, pools, garages and additions. He has completed over 100 commercial projects, some quite familiar to Tampa Bay residents: Howard Franklin Bridge, Lowes, Target, Live Oak City Hall, University of South Florida and Timber Pines Golf Course.

Brian has worked on at least 40 Department of Transportation roadway projects on US 19, US 41, Veterans Expressway, as well as Interstates -4, -75 and -275.

Brian started as a laborer in 1998, after 3 months he was promoted to foreman and within one year he worked his way up to lead foreman. By 2006, he served as Director of Operations, the highest position within the company, responsible for maintaining operations of the company from top to bottom. With his wealth of knowledge and experience, and his commitment to quality workmanship and overall excellence, with compassion, Brian oversees every aspect of Global Ground Solutions, and resolves to be the most respected leader in the ground modification industry!

“Global Ground Solutions has grown into something I am very proud to be a part of, and I feel blessed to call myself the owner,” Brian said.

Renew Repair Replace

Ultra Sonic Blind CleaningAre your blinds dirty?

Renew the look of your blinds & treatments with an ultrasonic cleaning.

Professional Blind RepairsNo need to replace that broken blind.

While not all blinds can be saved, repairs are possible.

A familiar metaphor states, “Your eyes are a window to your soul.” Yet conversely, windows should not allow eyes to see into the soul of your home. A sensible solution to protect your privacy with blinds and window treatments that serve multiple purposes while complementing the décor.

Horizontal or vertical, blinds hang parallel, or at least that’s the way they are designed. However, they can easily be damaged by tiny hands or furry paws, they become dusty and dirty and are troublesome to clean, and sometimes they don’t accent the new couch or paint color. No need to worry. Seek the unparal-leled window treatment service provided by the team at Statewide Blinds, and they will provide the perfect solution!

Larry Vanderhoof, owner of Statewide Blinds, and his family relo-cated to West Tampa Bay from Washington State and began the unique business of renewing, repairing and restoring blinds and window treatments to like-new condition, as well as replacing older styles to complement new-fangled décors, both residential and commercial.

“Customer service is our top priority. Our business is built on integrity and values, and we treat our customers like family,” Larry said. That is why Statewide Blinds is quickly becoming the fastest growing new business in Pasco County!

Blinds can be bother-some to keep clean. The team at Statewide Blinds eliminates the hassle by disassembling and thoroughly cleaning them using an ultrasonic cleansing system, removing dust, dirt, allergens and odors.

Although it is not always possible to fix blinds with extensive damage, moderately damaged blinds can easily be repaired with Statewide Blinds repair and restoration services. Options include replacing damaged slats; restringing blinds that need new lift cords; replacing damaged tilter mechanisms and ladder drums; and cutting down or resizing blinds and shades.

Custom window treatments are a cinch for Statewide Blinds! Whether you prefer the standard Venetian, or want to update to Honeycomb, Wood, Woven Wood or Faux Wood blinds, all of these styles are available. Shades are certainly an option in the common roller or not-so-common Roman adaptations. Perhaps, Plantation shutters are your preference. Your choice is Larry’s desire!

All of these selections and more are yours at Stateside Blinds. Plus, this mobile service comes to you and can complete most jobs the same day! Simply contact Statewide Blinds at 813-480-8638, to schedule your FREE QUOTE! For additional informa-tion, visit www.statewideblinds.com.

How should I hang a group of pictures and artwork?

The key to hanging an assembly of pictures together is to think of them as a single unit or a giant imaginary square that's at least 3 feet to 5 feet on each side, up to an entire wall. The top, bottom and sides of this square should all be parallel and spacing from one frame to the other within the square should be consistent. For an asymmetrical design of of varying sizes, shapes and frames, use an odd number of items, line up the darker-colored, visually heavier and larger pictures below the lighter, smaller ones, and consider hanging in a triangle or circle if that works best to maintain the balance. To arrange a trio of pictures, a commonly-used scheme is putting largest artwork in the center with two smaller pieces on either side.

Provide a "high definition" effect by making sure you tempt buyers using all five of their senses.

Sight: Display fresh flowers throughout the house on kitchen and bathroom countertops and side tables. Or add color pops by displaying seasonal fruits in the kitchen, living, and dining rooms —like a large bowl filled with red apples, pomegran-ates, strawberries, or lemons.

Sound: Play soft classical music in the background.

Taste: Put ready-to-bake cookies in the oven shortly before a showing and set them out on a pretty plate in the kitchen for prospective buyers. Brew some coffee and tea. The refresh-ments provide buyers more incentives to sit down and stay awhile—an approach recently used in prepping singer Sheryl Crow’s $15 million Hollywood home for sale.

Smell: Skip the chemical air fresheners. The flowers and freshly baked cookies will provide a welcoming scent. Create another favorite by slicing four apples in half and sprinkle them with brown sugar and bake them at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

Feel: Use linens with a “rich, substantive feel” in bedrooms, textured accent pillows, and white fluffy towels—all convey the touch of luxury.

Creating such an inviting space should elicit rave reviews from home shoppers—and just might entice them to stick around through the closing credits.

Is hydrogen peroxide a non-toxic weapon in your green cleaning arsenal? It should be!When it’s time to clean, have your trusty green cleaners at the ready — baking soda, vinegar, castile soap — plus another ultra-cheap gem: hydrogen peroxide. You can use it anywhere, and can’t beat the price: A 16-oz. bottle only costs a buck. Here are 10 ways you can use that ubiquitous brown bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide to your home’s advantage:

In Your Kitchen 1. Clean your cutting board and countertop. Hydrogen peroxide bubbles away any nasties left after preparing meat or fish for dinner. Add hydrogen peroxide to an opaque spray bottle — exposure to light kills its effectiveness — and spray on your surfaces. Let everything bubble for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse clean.

2. Wipe out your refrigerator and dishwasher. Because it’s non-toxic, hydrogen peroxide is great for cleaning places that store food and dishes. Just spray the appliance outside and in, let the solution sit for a few minutes, then wipe clean. 3. Clean your sponges. Soak them for 10 minutes in a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and warm water in a shallow dish. Rinse the sponges thoroughly afterward. 4. Remove baked-on crud from pots and pans. Combine hydrogen peroxide with enough baking soda to make a paste, then rub onto the dirty pan and let it sit for a while. Come back later with a scrubby sponge and some warm water, and the baked-on stains will lift right off.

In Your Bathroom 5. Whiten bathtub grout. If excess moisture has left your tub grout dingy, first dry the tub thoroughly, then spray it liberally with hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit — it may bubble slightly — for a little while, then come back and scrub the grout with an old toothbrush. You may have to repeat the process a few times, depending on how much mildew you have, but eventually your grout will be white again.

6. Clean the toilet bowl. Pour half a cup of hydrogen peroxide into the toilet bowl, let stand for 20 minutes, then scrub clean.

In Your Laundry Room 7. Remove stains from clothing, curtains, and tablecloths. Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a pre-treater for stains — just soak the stain for a little while in 3% hydrogen peroxide before tossing into the laundry. You can also add a cup of peroxide to a regular load of whites to boost brightness. It’s a green alternative to bleach, and works just as well.

Anywhere in Your House 8. Brighten dingy floors. Combine half a cup of hydrogen peroxide with one gallon of hot water, then go to town on your flooring. Because it’s so mild, it’s safe for any floor type, and there’s no need to rinse. 9. Clean kids’ toys and play areas. Hydrogen peroxide is a safe cleaner to use around kids, or anyone with respiratory problems, because it’s not a lung irritant. Fill an opaque spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide and spray toys, toy boxes, doorknobs, and anything else your kids touch on a regular basis. You could also soak a rag in peroxide to make a wipe.

Outside 10. Help out your plants. To ward off fungus, add a little hydrogen peroxide to your spray bottle the next time you’re spritzing plants. Use 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide added to one gallon of water for your plants. source: houselogic.com | Image: Liz Foreman for HouseLogic

SEO SPECIAL! LOCAL SEO PROGRAM

ONLY $300

Any business that gets some or all of its customers or clients locally should have a high priority on local SEO. If you have a physical address in a city, you should be doing local SEO for that location. How many times have you asked yourself; am I getting new clients for my business from my website? You may have a first class website, but if you don’t have an SEO program that is actively promoting your website, then you are missing out on getting new business from local search results. Your competitors are using SEO to attract new business through their websites. If you want to have a larger share of the business coming from online searches then you need to have an SEO program for your website.

The first step in your website SEO program is to start with local SEO. This begins with setting up local places accounts with Google, Yahoo and Bing. In conjunction with the Google places account, a Google+ account

should be created as both accounts are linked together by Google. One of the major advantages of Google+ is that it is an excellent (and often used) location to collect reviews of your business from your customers.

The next step in your local SEO program is to submit your business to the top 30 business directories; this is known as creating citations. It is important to set up these citations properly. How all of these citations for the local places accounts and business directories are configured is important to ensure that the best possible search results can be obtained.

If you do not currently have a local SEO program working for you, consider taking advantage of special program pricing from Websitedzyn. Websitedzyn is offering special pricing for this local SEO program for your business for a one-time cost of $300 (this offer is good until 5/30/2013).

8 THINGS TO KNOW IF YOU RECEIVE AN IRS NOTICEBy: Todd Unbehagen, MAFM, EA, ATA, ATPPresident of Unbehagen Advisors

The Internal Revenue Service sends millions of letters and notices to taxpayers every year. Here are eight things taxpayers should know about IRS notices – just in case one shows up in your mailbox.

1. Don´t panic (easier said than done). Many of these letters can be dealt with simply and painlessly.

2. There are a number of reasons why the IRS might send you a notice. Notices may request payment of taxes, notify you of changes to your account, or request additional information. The notice you receive normally covers a very specific issue about your account or tax return.

3. Each letter and notice offers specific instructions on what you are asked to do to satisfy the inquiry.

4. If you receive a correction notice, you should review the corre-spondence and compare it with the information on your return.

5. If you agree with the correction to your account, then usually no reply is necessary unless a payment is due or the notice directs otherwise.

6. If you do not agree with the correction the IRS made, it is impor-tant that you respond as requested. You should send a written explanation of why you disagree and include any documents and

information you want the IRS to consider, along with the bottom tear-off portion of the notice. Mail the information to the IRS address shown in the upper left-hand corner of the notice. Allow at least 30 days for a response.

7. Most correspondence can be handled without calling or visiting an IRS office. However, if you have questions, call the telephone number in the upper right-hand corner of the notice. Have a copy of your tax return and the correspondence available when you call to help us respond to your inquiry.

8. It´s important that you keep copies of any correspondence with your records.

If after “don’t panic” (see #1 above) you feel overwhelmed, just call our licensed tax professionals at Unbehagen Advisors! We’ll put our 20 years of tax and IRS resolution experience to work for you to resolve your IRS problem.

For more information about IRS notices and bills, see Publication 594, The IRS Collection Process. Information about penalties and interest is available in Publication 17, Your Federal Income Tax for Individuals. Source: www.irs.gov

They are, admittedly, “band geeks” from their teenage years. Barbara & Kevin Abendroth, owners of Music Matters in Trinity, have always taken great pleasure in music and instruments. In 2000, the couple owned and operated four piano and organ shops throughout Tampa Bay, and they taught lessons to Seniors. After six years, they developed their greatest idea! Barbara & Kevin closed their businesses and moved to the Trinity area, where they embraced their passion for music and teaching families the art.

“We have been in the music business since we were teenagers. We understand the benefits of having music in our lives, and we take great satisfaction getting kids and adults involved in playing music. We hope it will make a difference in their lives, too,” Kevin explains.

To more than 3,000 students from the area over the last six years, and to the 400 currently enrolled, music really does matter! There are 30 instructors who teach students of all ages how to play instruments, read music and grow in their talent! Music Matters has a 15-station computer lab for interactive participation by the students to supplement the teacher’s lessons. They also utilize 17 studios with glass doors where parents can observe their child’s lesson with qualified professional. There is also a comfortable waiting area,

complete with a coffee bar, plasma televisions, luxury chairs and WiFi. However, each student is different. This summer, Music Matters plays host to various fun and educational camps and classes for most every age. “MusiCamp” is an introduction to music and instruments. “Rock Band” is a class in which your child's rock star dreams come true! “ShowTime” involves a focus on drama, while “PopCamp” emphasizes pop music, singing, and choreography. The teachers and their classes are professional and fun at all times!

Music Matters has a great selection of instruments & supplies at very affordable rates. Instrument rental options are also available.

Music Matters is located in the Grand Trinity Plaza at 4112 Little Rd, Trinity. Now is the time to enroll yourself or your children in one or more of the summer camp classes available, or in private/semiprivate lessons. For more information, call 727-834-8856, visit their website, www.musicmattersfl.com, or email [email protected]. In Trinity and the surrounding areas, Music Matters!

Congratulations Aaron MourousasWinner of KIDS, Do You Like to Write? Hello, my name is Aaron Mourousas and today I am going to tell you why I’m thinking that we should continue summer brake. I have three reasons why I think this way. First we can have more time to study for next year. Second, we can hang out with family and friends. Three we need time to relax. Those are the three reasons I am going to talk about. I know school is important but you need to have relaxing time. Now I will tell you why summers brake should continue.

First, we can study at home for the next year. Also, we can get a tutor for help with studies. We also have a 40 minute on line school for more help with courses. Also, we can make a math, science, social studies, reading and, language arts game.

Second, hang out with family and friends. We don’t have that much time to see our family. Also, we can get hurt at school. We can be hurt by guns, knives, and bombs. Most of the time we don’t see our families, we see our friends.

Third; time to relax. Now I understand that school is impor-tant but we need some time off. Well we need to relax more. What I mean is because of the days we get more tired. And we need rest. We all as children need rest.

As, I write my last words well not forever. I mean in this…ah never mind. Any ways we need to continue summer brake. Please elect to do this. Now think about this, do you want your child hurt at school, well I don’t. Thank you for all the support.

Inspire is a music and arts school for children of all ages. Our facility houses a preschool, home school classroom, recording studio, music lesson studios, art rooms, theater w/stage, dance studio, and an autism music & art room.

The Non-Profit Inspire Foundation was created for children with special needs. These classes will give each child the opportunity to learn, play, and perform music.

Inspire School of Music & the Arts is a place where everyone can develop their own interest and talent in music and the arts.

Be Their Voice The best way to help horses is to be their voice in our nation's courts and halls of power. Make sure you are registered to vote, and actively support legislation that protects and preserves populations and living standards of equines both domestic and wild. At the ASPCA, we are doing our best to make it easy for you to participate in the legal process by posting timely information and action alerts in our Online Advocacy Center. Sign up today to receive targeted, location-based alerts that inform you how you can help America's horses. It's easy, it's free and it's important!

Be an Informed Consumer Your spending dollar is a weapon—use it wisely! Some products, like the drug Premarin, are created through the suffering of horses. Premarin is a hormone-replacement drug prescribed to thousands of American women every year. The "magic ingredient" in Premarin is the urine of pregnant mares. Read more about Premarin horses here.

Adopt a Horse! An estimated 100,000 American horses are slaughtered for human consumption each year. Currently there is no horse slaughter in the United States, but our horses are transported to facilities in Mexico and Canada, in a terrifying, cruel final ride. Most of these horses are healthy; beautiful former pets, race horses, carriage horses or for-merly free mustangs. Please visit www.homesforhorses.org for horse rescue organi-zations in your area.

Be an Ambassador for Equines Not everyone is aware of the miserable lives of race horses, the inhumane practice of horse slaughter, or where Premarin comes from. You can help expand awareness by engaging friends, family, classmates, riding instructors and others in a discussion.

Report Equine Cruelty If you witness an act of cruelty or neglect involving a horse or other equine, don't keep it to yourself. Any abuse shown to this animal can be an indicator of cruelty to other species—including humans. If you're not sure whom to contact, please read our Report Animal Cruelty page as a first step. source: aspca.com

DOES YOUR FURRY FRIEND NEED A

MAKEOVER?

Looking for a "Fur"ever HomeHi! My name is Rose, and I am a small terrier mix girl between one- and two-years-old. I don’t mind telling you, I have had it ruff over the last few years. I’d really like to find a forever home where I will be loved and cared for, and I won’t have to worry about my safety anymore.

You see, I never really had a home. I just did my best to survive. When a really nice person picked me up one day, they could see I had suffered an injury to my leg. It had been badly broken and healed back a little crooked. It was terribly painful all the time. The vet who examined me said I’d probably be in constant pain without surgery, but trying to fix the damage was going to lead to more pain and maybe complications, whatever that means. So, instead of fixing it, they removed the leg completely. So now, I only have three legs. Not a problem really. I’m learning to adapt just fine. I’m just a little nervous in my foster home right now, because the owner has two other dogs, and I think I’m crowding their space.

Don’t get me wrong. My current care-giver has been wonderful! I’ve gotten baths and been to Paw Wash Plus for a spa-day, of sorts. I have my own “house” [really, it’s just a doggie crate I call home], and I feel very safe and secure there most of the time. It’s just I would really love to be loved by someone who would call me their very own! I enjoy being a lap dog, but I like my space, and will give you yours, too.

It’s been said that I am a “sweetheart.” Well, if that means I’m a good girl with lots of love to give, then I guess that would be true. Yes, I am still adjusting to having three legs, but I’m doing well. I just need to be a part of someone’s life in a forever home where I will feel safe and secure and most of all, be loved!

To meet me or better still, to adopt me, please call Paradise Pets Rescue in Windermere: 407/680-3999 or email [email protected].

With Lots of Puppy Love,Rose
