As a fund raising proj-ect on behalf of our club
we decided to print T
shirts for the year. Socialprojects to be conducted
in the coming months
are in a requirement of
funding. Therefore we,
the leos of University
of Moratuwa decided
to fulfill required funds
via T shirts. Anyone who
would buy a t-shirt will be contributing to many
social services like environmental protection,
public awareness of health problems, caringfor elders, helping students in rural areas and
etc. in an indirect way. This concept acted as a
boost for many people to buy the t-shirt.
With the approval of university administra-
tion, the design for the T shirt was exposed to
all our members for any changes and sugges-
tions and later a design was finalized with the
consent of the members.
After agreements on the price we ordered
to print 193 t-shirts for the price Rs.660/= each.
By considering our financial requirements to
carry out the upcoming events and also after
considering our remaining assets we decidedon the price of a t-shirt. The decided price was
Rs. 900/=.
As we had previous experience in doing simi-
lar projects as Leos within the university we
did not have to put much effort to sell those
t-shirts. Most of the t-shirts could be sold dur-
ing the lunch breaks in the canteens and we
were successful in selling all the t-shirts.
Happy to say that with the contribution, tal-
ent and commitment of all our Leos, we could
successfully complete our project and could
reach our expected profit targets. With the
progress of this event our future missions could

UNDERSTAND THE LEADERSHIP .. BE A LEADER..BY LEO KASUN KODITHUWAKKU
What is leadership? Leadership has been described
as a process of social influence in which one person can
enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment
of a common task, also leadership can be defined as orga-
nizing a group of people to achieve a common goal.
How to develop leadership skills? Understanding your cur-
rent leadership style is essential. What are your strengths?
Which areas need some improvement? One way to start
assessing your skills is to take this leadership style quiz to
get a general idea of how you lead. Once you have com-
pleted the quiz, read about the major characteristics of
your dominant style. Are these qualities helping or hinder-
ing your leadership? Once youve determine which areas need some work, you can begin looking for ways to
improve your leadership abilities. Would you look to someone for guidance and leadership if they did not truly care about the goals
of the group? Of course not! Great leaders are not just focused on getting group members to finish tasks; they
have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the projects they work on. Start by thinking of different ways that
you can express your zeal. Let people know that you care about their progress. When one person shares some-
thing with the rest of the group, be sure to tell them how much you appreciate such contributions.
Transformational leaders have an upbeat, optimistic attitude that serves as a source of inspiration
for followers. If leaders seem discouraged or apathetic, members of the group are likely to also become unin-
spired. Even when things look bleak and your followers start to feel disheartened, try to stay positive. This does
not mean viewing things through rose-colored glasses. It simply means maintaining a sense of optimism and
hope in the face of challenges. Who says leadership is a one-way relationship? As you work toward honing your leadership skills,
dont forget to look to your followers for feedback an inspiration. Pay attention to the things that have been
effective in the past and always be on the lookout for new ways to inspire, motivate and reward group members.
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice
things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership. -Nelson
Mandela

GET TO KNOW AND PUT A FULLSTOPAWARENESS CAMPAIGN 3
Leo Club of University of Moratuwaproceeds the continuous project
Get To Know & Put A Full Stop for the 3rd time with the hope of conducting an
awareness campaign on mouth cancers by circulating an email.
As the previous versions of the project, this email contains all the
necessary & important information about the particular type of the cancer.
Main purpose of this project is improving the public health condition of Sri
Lanka. As leos we always try to give our maximum effort & abilities to serve the
society, we live. So this project is one of our biggest social services in the leostic
year 2014.
Creative and innovative ideas of our members were collected and
the interface of the article was made. Later the poster was designed to success-
fully convey our message to the society. Initially, we sent this email only to lions
&leos in Sri Lanka. Next time we are trying to extend the recipients in order tospread our message among huge number of people.
We also try our best to make any changes and to be flexible as
possible to the replies that we receive to our emails. With great pleasure we
remark thatour emails had successful number of replies. Most of them are con-
gratulations for us on behalf of the club& asking to keep it throughout the year.
As UOM leos , we always highly appreciate these replies & always try to serve
the society in most possible ways.
WRONG EMAIL ADDRESS...
A couple going on vacation but his wife was on a business trip so he went to the destination first and his wife
would meet him the next day.
When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.
Unfortunately, when typing her address, he mistyped a letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly
preachers wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out
a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Dearest Wife,Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here.

As the editor of the October Newsletter I welcome all the readers and contributors, many of them
who are personally known to me, our dear club members and many others with whom I now wish to make an
ongoing acquaintance as a result of wide coverage achieved by Leo newsletter recently.
Few months ago, at the monthly meeting we decided to expand the number of receivers of the news-letter and with pleasure I mention that we have achieved that target by now. Other than these, the Newsletter
carries information and news about ongoing and upcoming activities in the leisure field in the future.
To increase the productivity of reading we always tried to supply only important points for the readers and Leos
in simple and imaginative means. Leos of the university are welcome to share their ideas through an article by
making a simple e-mail.
Through the publication of the newsletter I always expected to carry the talents and determination
of Leos in front of the general public as well as to express their mind blowing and revolutionary ideas To make
the world a better place which the Leos always stand for. I believe the most interesting facet of the newsletter
is this. Ideas and comments of voluntarily Leos are always welcome to future editions of the newsletter as well.
We rely heavily on electronic distribution of our newsletter to the community.
Hope to expose interactive social work of the club furthermore in coming editions as well.Anyone inter-
ested in activities of the club or supplying an article can contact the editors of this Newsletter or even approach
the club directly through e mail. We would like to hear from you.
