Presented Line up at 2014 SOS Colour Show-off

(this did not include all the entries in this section)

REGISTRY UPDATE:

Cream Appendix

Since the introduction of the class classification

for the Cream Appendix Registry two years ago

and the request/acceptance by the WA RAS for

CA Class A & B (Palomino) to enter the Palomino

classes at the Royal the CA Registry has gone

ahead in leaps and bounds. The numbers

registered this year not far behind the Buckskin/

Dun Registry.

Colour Tests

There are still a number of horses who have

registration pending a positive cream colour test.

If by chance the respective test/s asked for are

negative these horses are usually always able to

be registered Appendix/and or Foundation.

Buckskin/Dun or B/D refers to Buckskin and or

Dun in every instance except in the actually

Buckskin Dun colour class in WABA shows which

is for horses who carry cream and dun factors.

Registration Requirements

Applications for Registration can only be accepted by a financial member of the Association. An

Application for Membership may be lodged with a Registration Application.

Registration Application's are submitted on the prescribed form available to be downloaded on

the Forms Page or by contacting the Secretary if you require forms to be posted out.

Horses eligible for Registration: Must conform to the Colour Code on the Colour Information

Page. There is no preferred type, however, it is required that the horse or pony be a good

representation of its breed. There is no height or age barrier on eligibility for registration. Horses

registered with a recognized breed society are systematically accepted as long as they have the

correct colour genetics.

All Classifications are initially assessed with photos to help identify colour. (The size of our state

makes it difficult to visually classify horses.) Some horses may require a visual classification and/

or a veterinary certificate of hereditary soundness. A DNA hair colour test may be requested of

any horse whose colour is not clear.

Each application submitted must included: Signed Registration Application, the requested photo's, copies of all

other registrations, Membership Application (new members) and prescribed Fees.

STUD BOOK:

Colt Foal Recording: Any Buckskin and/or Dun, Cremello/Perlino or Cream Appendix under the age of 2 which

conforms to the requirements of the Association. Colts must be sire or gelding registered before they turn 4 years.

Buckskin/Dun & Cremello/Perlino

Sire Registration: A stallion, 3 years and over, which conforms to the requirements of the Association.

Mare and Gelding Registration: A mare/filly or gelding, any age, which conforms to the requirements of

the Association.

Mares or Geldings who were Foal Recorded before the requirement for foal recording was removed on 1st

July 2013 will still be required to be adult registered as a Mare or Gelding before they turn 3 years. Any

questions please contact the Secretary or Registrar.

Cream Appendix/Appendix and Foundation Registries:

Cream Appendix: For horses carrying the cream gene that are not Buckskin, Cremello or Perlino.

CLASS A = Palomino with recognised Stud Book parentage.

CLASS B = Palomino with non recognised parentage i.e. tobiano parent.

Cream Appendix CLASS A & B may enter Palomino classes at open shows including Perth Royal Show.

CLASS C = Carries the cream gene, is solid coloured but carries an unaccepted colour gene for Buckskin stud

book registration i.e. Palomino/Silver, Buckskin/grey, Cremello/Roan, Buckskin/overo etc.

Appendix Horse: A horse which is the progeny of a Buckskin or Dun but has not inherited the cream or dun

gene.

Foundation Mare: Any mare considered to be suitable to breed Buckskin & Duns.

2014 State Championship Judge: Leanne Owens (Qld)

25/26 October

WABA Committee are very pleased to announce we have Leanne Owens to judge this

years State Championships. Leanne is very well renowned in the horse world Australia wide

as well as internationally.

Owner & Manager of ‘Horses of Gold’ in Grandchester, Queensland. Leanne has a full

understanding of colour and we are honoured to have her judge. Leanne is the owner of

magnificent stallions ‘Days of Gold’ pictured and ‘Nights of Gold’, both have progeny

performing well in many disciplines in the East plus WA.

A message from Leanne:

I would be honoured to judge at your State Championships as long as you understand I

don't have any formal judge's ticket from AQHA, AHSA, HSAA, etc - I simply judge because

most people think I have a reasonable eye for a horse, I treat competitors well and, usually, I

explain my decisions so competitors can understand why a certain horse won even though I

really liked the others as I think when they have gone to all the effort and expense of being

there, I should justify my decision to them.

I am familiar with all breed requirements and, though I currently breed QHs, I've had ASH,

T'breds, Warmbloods, several pony breeds, Arabians and other breeds, so I am not biased

towards any one breed.

Cheers,

Leanne Owens.

While in WA Leanne is

hoping to catch up with

Cowboy, a QH X Anglo

buckskin she bred that is

working at Ashton's Circus

FOR SALE * Buffalo Soldier. Buff is a 13.3hh Australian Pony gelding registered with the WABA. He is the perfect

pony for temperament, colour, and conformation. Buff was the 2013 champion

ridden exhibit at the Shades of summer-offs WABA show and holds the current high

point ridden. He has also competed in Ag shows, dressage, jumping and hacking. This

calm natured boy is the best child's pony you could wish for. Has competed

successfully in Perth including at the Perth Royal placing in all classes entered in large

classes. Buff is a true hunter pony and would make a lovely working hunter, or great

ODE pony as he has no fear jumping unusual and unfamiliar jumps. He travels well

and can bow, very trainable and will take his rider form the start all the way to the top

in any discipline. Only to the best of homes.
