San Sebastian Tourism & Convention Bureau was created in 2006 as a result of the merger of the City Council’s Tourism Agency (CAT), created in 1927, and San Sebastian Convention Bureau, created in 1988, with the purpose of promoting the city as a venue for congresses, conventions, meetings and incentive trips.

All these years of experience have allowed us to accumulate extensive knowledge of our environment as well as forming important alliances with local companies in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector. More than 300 collaborating partners, including meeting venues, OPCs, DMCs and accommodation providers, are proof of this.

Located in the heart of the city and facing the sea, the Kursaal is an avant-garde building designed by Rafael Moneo and won the Mies van der Rohe Prize for the best building in Europe in 2001.

It has 2 auditoriums and multipurpose rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and an experienced team of staff, which makes it the ideal venue to host both small business meetings and large-scale congresses, product presentations, conventions or trade fairs.

In addition, it has 1,500 square metres of facade with LED lighting available to customers as a communication tool.

Its location allows easy access to most hotels, restaurants and shops. A team led by Andoni Luis Aduriz, a two-Michelin-star chef, is in charge of the restaurant service which involves in-situ preparation.

Situated in front of La Concha bay, this ensemble in the style of an English “cottage” is the most outstanding sea-front building in San Sebastian, dividing the beaches of Ondarreta and La Concha.

The Miramar Palace was designed in 1889 by the English architect Selden Wornum, and was built in 1893 by order of the Spanish royalty on its extensive area of land.

Today it is a venue that is open to all kinds of events. In summer it becomes the headquarters of the Summer Courses of the University of the Basque Country, and its interior offers rooms of different sizes for the organising of meetings or congresses. Although it inherits an architectural style from the 19th century, its technological infrastructure is kept right up to date in order to satisfy any need.

The Basque Culinary Center is located in the upper part of the city, in a natural setting, within the San Sebastian Technology Park. It is a building with striking architecture that is home to the first Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences, attached to Mondragon Unibertsitatea.

The Basque Culinary Center is equipped with facilities that can also host business meetings, conventions, presentations, etc., accompanied, where appropriate, by culinary activities of the highest calibre. A spectacular palace in the style of an English “cottage” located in front of La Concha bay. The Miramar Palace was built in 1893 at the request of the Spanish royalty, who spent their summers in San Sebastian. The palace was designed by the English architect Selden Wornum and its gardens are the work of the master gardener Pierre Ducasse.

The palace stands out for its history and architecture and above all for the views from its garden and the natural viewpoint looking over the bay and Santa Clara Island. For years it was the summer residence of Queen María Cristina until the city council acquired it in 1973.

Since its inauguration in 1912 by Queen Victoria Eugenia, consort of King Alfonso XIII, it has hosted the most important cultural events of the city. It was the main stage for the International Film Festival until the year 2000 and here personalities such as Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall and Gregory Peck have received its most prestigious awards.Capable of seating 900 people, the highlight of the main hall is its striking vault with eye-catching frescoes by the artist Ignacio Ugarte featuring his representation of the rising sun.

With an exceptional location in the historic centre of San Sebastian, the San Telmo Museum is housed in two adjacent buildings from different historical periods: a Dominican convent from the 16th century and a contemporary building. It is one of the few buildings that survived the city’s fire in 1813. Later, the city council bought it and turned it into museum, inaugurated in 1932. After a restoration of the old building and the architectural extension to house new cultural areas, San Telmo was reopened in 2011 as the Museum of Basque Society.

Txakoli-producing wineries

Txakoli is a young, fruity and slightly sparkling wine produced in the Basque Country. The popularity of this drink has led to a modernising of the txakoli wineries. To enjoy txakoli is to pay tribute to the good life, in the most out-of-the-way natural surroundings. These venues offer an increasingly wide range of options while still remaining authentic. The production of txakoli takes place mostly in the coastal towns of Orio, Zarautz and Getaria, although this tradition has also been recovered in Hondarribia.These wineries produce txakoli with Designation of Origin Getariako Txakolina.


Walks among the extensive vineyards and finding out first-hand about the making of the wine. In September, at harvest time, the possibility of helping to pick the grapes.

Cider Houses

Cider is a fermented apple juice that is at the heart of one of the most iconic Basque gastronomic traditions. The cider houses are farmhouses surrounded by apple trees, where the fruit is collected and where the drink is produced. Most of the cider houses are found in the north-east of the province, more specifically in the towns of Astigarraga, Hernani, Urnieta and Usurbil.A characteristic custom that is observed in these establishments involves eating standing up and going to drink the cider poured directly from the “kupela” (barrel) with the accompanying cry of “Txotx!”.
