It’s hard to believe we are publishing our second news-

letter for the club. Our first club meeting was held on

June 10th with over 30 members and guests attending that

inaugural meeting. I was deeply honored and proud to be

part of that special gathering of founding members. With

smiling faces and great expiations we rallied for a group

photo in the Ed Bozarth new car showroom. A true clas-

sic 1954 Corvette was our centerpiece.

The foundation for the new club has been established so

now it’s time to fill the remaining seats and get organized

for some fun and events. As I look around the member-

ship I see lots of experience in both Corvette ownership

and in Corvette club related involvement. I welcome

everyone with experience to make suggestions and step

up and make this club a club they will be excited to par-

ticipate in. Please offer to welcome new members and

show them the way. We need ideas and volunteers.

Ingrid Tryon, working behind the scenes like the wizard

of OZ that she is, has spent a lot of time developing a

new club web site. To our enjoyment, the new site was

reviled and launched at our first club meeting. Please

visit our new site: www.ColoradoCorvettes.club

The Corvette season is well underway here in Colorado

and I want everyone to find something to take part in.

There are a lot of car shows, autocross events, cruise-ins

and social gatherings to attend. What do you like to do

with your Corvette?

Our history goes all

the way back to 1972

when we began dat-

ing as sophomores at

Wiesbaden High

School in Germany

where our dad’s were

stationed in the

USAF. After a cou-

ple of years we went

our separate ways

with Dave joining the

Navy as an avionics tech after high school and finally retiring

in 1999. Susan joined the Air Force and spent 4 years as a

dental tech before getting out to raise her two kids and going

to college. After many years of raising separate families it

only took a single email to bring us back together.

After 23 years apart we finally joined our families creating an

amazing blended group with Susan’s son Jake (36), daughter

Jenny (32) and Dave’s two sons Josh (31) and Mike (27).

While the kids are grown and gone we do have a couple four

legged kids, Gracie (English Springer Spaniel) and Kitty

(domestic long hair cat).

As we were both active military and military brats we have

lived all over the world from Wiesbaden Germany, Clovis

NM, Corpus Christi TX, Pasadena CA, Hampton VA, Ram-

stein Germany and Martinsburg WV just to name few of those

places.

Of all those paces I have traveled the best has to be the trip

Susan and I took by train to Paris for in the summer of 1973.

What an amazing adventure for a 16 year old and his beautiful

girl friend. Since joining forces in 2001 we have called

Aurora home. Susan is a Special Needs Coordinator at Cherry

Creek Schools and Dave is a Senior IT Analyst with DirecTV.

On the Road with....Dave and Susan Effler Dave has always been into cars since his first a 1969 Ply-

mouth Road Runner. But the real game changer was finding

a used 1972 Targa Blue 454 with 4 speed at a local Chevy

dealership. Back then there was no way I could own one but

the die was cast and I had found my second love…..Corvette.

Over the years Dave has owned a 1969 Camaro Z28, 1972

Datsun 240Z, 1999 Yamaha Roadstar and a 2005 BMW 3301

ZHP. All just stop gaps till owning the ultimate prize a Cor-

vette.

That ultimate prize came in the way of winning a 2015

Corvette from the National Corvette Museum “Build Your

Own Raffle” on November 13, 2014. We picked the colors

and options going with Shark Gray, Z51 Coupe, 3LT, black

leather, mag shocks, black wheels and red calipers, carbon

fiber roof and dash. We took museum delivery on March 6,

2015 and were surprised to be informed upon our arrival at

the Museum that our car was the 10,000th Corvette to be de-

livered at the NCM under the R8C option (National Corvette

Museum Delivery). Here is a link to our story courtesy of

NCM:

Once we learned we would be Corvette owners we began

looking for other owners like ourselves to share our new pas-

sion. What we wanted was to be a part of a group of friends

who had a Corvette problem. After investigating several

clubs from Colorado Springs to Boulder, we finally came

across the Central Colorado Corvette Club. It’s a laid back

group who loves to have fun with friends and their Corvettes.

From finding a great place for lunch, whether a pub or a

member’s back yard to playing glow in the dark putt-putt or

finding a great place for fudge this is a down to earth group

that we enjoy being a part of.

We are looking forward to spending more time with this

great group of Corvette owners.

Royal Gorge Trip 06-13-15

By Terry Cooper

It’s been raining since May. The Weather Service issued flash flood warnings everywhere including

the Arkansas River. We got our Corvettes out for the first trip this year and drove to Cañon City for a

ride on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad!

We met at the McDonald’s at the Castle Rock Outlet stores mid-morning and then drove to Rudy’s

BBQ in Colorado Springs for an awesome BBQ lunch. It was decided (after much debate – before?

or after? the train ride) that we would drive over Skyline Drive in Cañon City for a group photo be-

fore heading to the train station.

After getting some great photos, we headed to the Royal Gorge Route Railroad train station. On the

train, we had great seats in the club car and access to an outside car for great viewing as we headed

into the Royal Gorge canyon.

The Arkansas River was running high and fast but not

even close to the railroad tracks. We watched several

people challenge the river in their individual kayaks

hoping they all made it out okay. We got a great view

of the Royal Gorge Bridge, cable cars and the new zip

line over the canyon 1200 feet up.

There is even a fault that runs parallel to the canyon in

about the middle of the 10 mile long red granite canyon.

We caught a glimpse of Blue Heron poking their heads

out of their nests at the far end of the canyon.

After the beautiful train ride, we had dinner at the

Royal Gorge Brewing Company in Cañon City then

celebrated Dave Cooper’s Birthday with cake and

strawberries for dessert.

Thank you to Dave and Terry Cooper and Leo and

LynnAnn Lamanuzzi for organizing this event. A great

time was had by all and we look forward to our next

adventure together.

Wednesday night June 17th, several members from the club joined

Walt and Michele for pie and coffee at the Village Inn in Highlands

Ranch. Seems the Village Inn features FREE Pie every Wednesday

night with any purchase. Buy a cup of coffee and get a FREE slice

of pie. FREE is always good and a little mid-week Corvette cruise

just makes it better. A couple of use go there early and ate dinner

first.

Club Mystery Meal Cruise & BBQ June 27th hosted by Jack and Ingrid Tryon

With all the weird Colorado weather this Spring/

Summer, we crossed our fingers Friday night in

hopes for a sunny Saturday. We awoke the next

morning to a perfect day for a Corvette cruise.

Everyone gathered at Murdoch’s in Parker for our

pre-lunch cruise briefing. Jack and Ingrid handed

out goodie bags with snacks and water. I’m not

sure, but I think most of the driving instructions

were directed at Coop.

Down Lincoln Avenue and West across 470 we

drove. We headed West up 285 and soon turned

right onto North Turkey Creek headed for Ever-

green. What a wonderful winging road to drive at

any speed. In Evergreen It became a game of who

can park where in town. Our destination was a

fudge shop in town. After getting our sugar rush

we headed back to Parker ( Tryon’s house) for an

apple wood smoked BBQ pot luck lunch.

Colorado Journey Glow Ball Mini Golf Friday Night, August 7th

P l e a s e R S V P :

Join Les and Kelly Rhoades for this one and only oppor-

tunity this summer to play outdoor glow in the dark mini

golf. This event is held only three times in the summer

and August 7th is the last event date for the season. With

the Tryon’s, we have played the course before “at night”

and had a great time. Our thoughts are before the golf

match to either meet for a dinner out at a restaurant

( drive-in or sit down) or maybe someone would be will-

ing to host an at home BBQ or pot luck. It’s an idea

open for suggestions….we could do that before playing.

We will have lots of pre-game activities time as I do not

expect to play golf until about 9PM.

If interested contact Les or Kelly .

.

If we get more than eight people signed up I will call

ahead and see if they can accommodate a larger group.

Come have some FUN

at Colorado Journey at

Cornerstone Park Little-

ton where you will em-

bark on an adventure

through some of Colo-

rado’s most famous at-

tractions. With two 18-

hole mini golf courses to

choose from this outing

is just beginning.

Travel the Pack Mule Draw course to visit the wonders

of Mesa Verde, tremble at St. Elmo Ghost Town, and

putt through the Cripple Creek Mine. Hike along the

Conestoga Pass course and experience the Florissant

Fossil Beds, marvel at the Eisenhower Tunnel, and en-

joy Lake Dillon. Throughout your journey you will be

treated to native flora, rock formations, streams, and

The most popular law follows the Uniform Vehi-

cle Code, which says a car driving below the

"normal speed of traffic" should be driven in the

right-hand lane. Because it indicates "normal

speed" instead of saying "speed limit" a driver

going above the speed limit but slower than most

traffic is still in the wrong.

The states indicated in green dictate that the left

lane should be used exclusively for passing or

turning left, though most of these limit enforce-

ment to multi-lane highways. The simplest and

best laws simply state drivers in the left lane

must always yield to faster traffic regardless of

the passing car's speed or other factors.

Unfortunately, most of these laws are only en-

forced as a way of pulling over suspicious vehi-

cles or passengers. This is why Georgia is in the

process of passing a tougher "Slow-Poke Law"

with real penalties for drivers.

COLORADO LEFT LANE LAW

The Left Lane Law took effect in July of 2004

to prevent the aggressive driving that results

from slow drivers in the passing lane. CRS 42-4

-1013 reads:

“A person shall not drive a motor vehicle in the

passing lane of a highway if the speed limit is

sixty-five miles per hour or more unless such

person is passing other motor vehicles that are

in a non-passing lane or turning left, or unless

the volume of traffic does not permit the motor

vehicle to safely merge into a non-passing lane.”

Brochures with information about traffic safety

are available on the Colorado Department of

Transportation website:

www.dot.state.co.us/Publications/onlinebrochures.htm

Left

Lane

Law

Notable Colorado Traffic laws

Traffic Laws

Turns on Red: Right turn on red: Legal after a full stop. Left turn on red: Legal from a way-street to another one-way street after a full

stop.

Signal Lights: Red arrows prohibit turns in that direction while displayed, regardless of what other signals may be showing at the inter-

section.

Roundabouts: When entering, yield to traffic already within the roundabout

Turn signaling: Signal continuously for 100 feet before the turn in urban areas, 200 feet above 40 mph

U-turns: Permitted where you have sufficient sight distance and there are no signs prohibiting it

Parking: No parking allowed within 30 feet of a stop sign/traffic signal/railroad crossing, on a bridge, in a tunnel, or within 15 feet of a

fire hydrant

Passing: Passing on the right legal when there are two or more lanes in one direction. No passing on the shoulder.

High Beams: Dim them when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or when following a vehicle within 200 feet

Steep Roads: When on a one-lane steep road, the vehicle going downhill yields to the vehicle coming uphill

Page 17: It’s hard to believe we are publishing our second news-

17

Move It: State law says if you are involved in an accident on a freeway/expressway and there are no injuries, the vehicles are driveable

and drugs/alcohol are not suspected, then you are required to get the vehicles out of traffic lanes. It's a myth you have to wait for the cops to

show up before you can move the cars. For every one minute an accident sits in traffic it causes five minutes of delay for everyone else.

Cell Phones: Text messaging while driving is prohibited. Drivers under 18 years old are prohibited from using cell phones while driving.

Move Left: When there are two or more lanes in one direction of travel, move left for emergency or maintenance vehicles parked on the

shoulder. If there is only one lane in the direction of travel drivers must slow down and "use due care and caution" when passing a stopped

emergency/maintenance vehicle.

Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors Telluride is world-renowned for its splendor and its beauty. And in 2015, the in-augural Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors will continue the time-honored tradition of the Concours d’Elegance, and gather the world’s finest automobiles at one of Amer-ica’s most beautiful destina-tions.

Scenic Telluride and the rug-ged San Jan Mountains will be the backdrop for the event, as it introduces million-dollar automobiles into its spectacular palette of autum-nal colors.

Set for September 24-27, 2015, the festival will occupy three distinct venues over the course of four days: down-town Telluride Historic District including the park and pavilion, the luxurious hamlet of Mountain Village, and America’s highest commercial airstrip, the 9,070-foot Telluride Regional Airport.

And as you glide through tiny, timeworn towns like Ridgway, Silverton, Durango, and Rico, you’ll arrive at a stunning realization: a more rewarding, more spectacular American drive, there is none.

Additional auto events include the Cars of the Stars and JFK Cars exhibits and the Cool Cars on Colorado car shows, located on Telluride’s Colorado Avenue, all running from Friday through Sunday. Meet fellow enthusi-asts, visit the rustic shops and restaurants, and enjoy multiple venues of live music. And on Saturday, marvel at the speed and beauty of luxury airplanes at the Jets & Jags Regional Airport fly-in.

Throw in the Morning Revv, the cocktail hours and VIP dinners, and you have to work hard to take it all in! And that’s not even including Telluride itself: our town is packed with amazing outdoor activities: the 4×4 tours, mountain biking trails, hanging waterfall hikes, fly fishing, the 18-hole golf course, rock climbing, glider rides and so much more you may need to extend your stay!

There are a variety of social events, including outdoor tours, relaxing spa sessions, shopping trips, and wine and cheese socials. As greater Telluride features some of the most opulent homes in Colorado, they’ll be on display during Saturday’s Parade of Homes event. And to make it really interesting, there’s a $5,000 medallion hunt—so be sure to attend Morning Revv to get the daily clues!
