WELCOME TO
NEW STAFF
A warm welcome to our new members of staff
Dates to add to your diary this Autumn Term
Congratulations to all our pupils on an excellent set of GCSE and A Level results
All the different ways we share news with our parents
online
We started the new academic year on Monday with a feeling of normality that we haven’t felt for some time – and it felt wonderful!
THE GATES ARE OPEN! IT’S GOOD TO
BE BACK!

RESULTSSTAY CONNECTED
At 8.30am on Monday morning, the School site was a
hive of activity. Pupils from Nursery to Sixth Form
returned to Rougemont to start the next step of their
education.
Pupils disembarked School buses whilst parents
wished their children luck at their drop-off points
across the School. Staff members were out in force to
give pupils a big welcome back and pupils ran to their
friends, new and old, to share their summer holiday
experiences. It was wonderful to see after 18 months
of challenges and restrictions.
Whilst we are continuing to operate safely within
Government guidelines, the sense of normality was
certainly welcome!
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our
new pupils and parents across the School and wish
everyone in our School community a healthy and
successful School year.

Year 13 leavers 2021 proudly display their results
CONGRATULATIONS!
The past 18 months have been incredibly challenging
for pupils as they mastered the art of online learning
and virtual classrooms in unprecedented
circumstances. The hard work of our pupils and
teachers, together with the unwavering support of their
parents has resulted in excellent A Level and GCSE
results across the board this year.
A message from the Headmaster:
Our pupils have shown determination, courage and
true resilience during these challenging and uncertain
months, and we are incredibly proud of each and every
one of them.
We are extremely pleased to report another year of
outstanding examination results.
It may not have been the typical results days we all
envisaged but the hard work and dedication of our
pupils and teachers over the past two years has
resulted in a superb set of results and show, yet again,
why Rougemont is ranked as one of the highest
performing schools in Wales.
Congratulations to all our pupils.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT
Year 13 pupil Theo was selected to run for the U20
Welsh Athletics team and ran in the Manchester
International Event against England, Scotland and
Ireland in the 400m relay event. Theo has been
extremely dedicated to his training regime over what
has been a very difficult season and was selected even
though he is at the younger end of the age
category. He will shortly be starting his winter training
programme leading to, (COVID and of course A level
studies (!) permitting), the indoor series of events early
next year. Well done, Theo!
Meanwhile, Year 6 pupils Freya, Katie-May and Zoe
received their end of year trophies from Cwmbran
Youth Netball Club. The girls were presented with
trophies at the end of season back in July. Excellent,
girls!
No matter how big or small, we are keen to hear about
your child’s sporting achievements!
Our pupils achieve so many wonderful things both in and
outside of School, and it’s important to recognise and
celebrate those achievements. Please let us know!
Please send an email to the email address above with

Our Strengths Wall during Staff INSET last week
WELLBEING FOR ALL
Staff were pleased to welcome Bridget Grenville-Cleave for a
day’s teacher training last week, gaining insight into the world
of Positive Psychology and a Strengths-Based Approach to
Wellbeing. The training was part of a much wider school
development plan relating to Wellbeing in the School
Community, spearheaded by the Rougemont Wellbeing
Forum under the direction of Senior Manager Andy Knight
and Head of Latin, Sue Elson.
It is always a pleasure to host outside speakers, bringing a
new perspective to staff training and these sessions did not
disappoint. Bridget is a university lecturer in Positive
Psychology and has written a number of books, which can be
found on Amazon. Staff were engaged in a variety of
activities aimed at identifying, discussing and implementing
their personal character strengths to every day experiences
both in their school and home lives. It made for animated
discussion and led to new ways of building and sustaining
work relationships and team building. Some staff even
discovered hidden strengths they did not know they had!
Teachers and support staff came away feeling reflective and
energised, ready to hit the ground running for what we all
hope will be something approaching a ‘normal’ academic
year. It is a subtle reminder however, that notwithstanding the
importance of academic progress and achievement, our
pupils too, need time to reflect on their own sense of purpose
and wellbeing – their own strengths profile- that will enable
them to thrive.
Each of us is different; self-awareness and knowledge of our
strengths helps us to understand ‘how we tick’ and thus, how
we can best succeed. Our Personal Social Health Education
Programme, will include discussion of such concepts in
PSHE lessons with our pupils – so look out for some
interesting ‘dinner-time’ family conversations at home!
If anyone would like any more information about the
Strengths-Based Approach to ‘thriving’ please contact Sue
Elson, who will be happy to provide you with some useful
links. ([email protected])
CO-CURRICULAR
The Senior School Co-curricular programme offers pupils
a rich and varied schedule of clubs and activities. From
Young Journalists to String Orchestra, Engineering Club
to Photography Club, Rugby to Craft Clubs, there will be
something for everyone.
Clubs run each lunchtime and after school from 4pm –
5pm.

LRC UPDATELIBRARY
UPDATEHere is some information which was sent to all pupils from Years 5 to 13 on Google Classroom about how the Library works. We thought it may be of interest to our parents so that you can keep updated with LRC news.
PAGE 14
I hope you've all had a fabulous summer break. A quick
message from the Learning Resources Centre (LRC):
Sending a very warm welcome to everyone new to
Rougemont this year, and to everyone else... I can't wait
to see you back in the LRC - I've missed you SO much!!
Years 5 and 6: We're hoping to be able to have Years 5 and
6 in for their LRC induction and daily visits during their breaks
and lunchtimes soon, but we're likely to have to wait until half
term and make a decision then. Years 5 and 6 can though
access their Reading Cloud account online and can reserve
books to be sent to them in Junior School. [All books
borrowed from the LRC need to be returned to the LRC
though, and not to the Junior Library. Thanks for your help
with this!]
The Materials section of the LRC Classroom includes a
number of helpful resources, including a Google Slides
presentation explaining how to find and use your Reading
Cloud Online Account and a floor plan of the LRC to find your
way around. You need to access your online account to
browse the library catalogue, to access online resources
(thousands of web links to help with your studies), to check
any reading lists allocated to you, to reserve, renew and
review your books.
You can log in to your Reading Cloud account from School or
at home at any time. Your Username will be your Google
Classroom email in full e.g. Username: (100jonesa)
@rougemontschool.co.uk and if you haven't logged in to the
system before, please use the Temporary Password:
Rougemont! (please login to your account and change your
password to something personal to you as soon as you
can). Existing users who changed their passwords but can't
remember them, you should be able to reset your password
using your date of birth. Please drop me a line if you have
any difficulties. [I'm waiting for email addresses for a couple
of pupils who have joined very recently, so if you have a
friend who hasn't received an invite to the LRC Classroom,
please let them know I'll be in touch soon.]
Classroom Materials also provides information on FREE
resources available through Libraries Wales for everyone
living in Wales: e-books, e-magazines, e-comics and audio
books (see link below). You'll need a public library card
number, but can subscribe electronically. Information on
School Subscribed resources can also be found in the
Materials section. Prep School subscribe and manage
resources separately for Years 5 and 6, so most LRC
subscriptions will be relevant to Senior School pupils only.
What is the LRC Classroom for?
There might be an occasional competition (Key Stage/Year or
even Classroom specific) but this space is mostly to provide
you with information. If you have ideas on how to make it
more useful, or if you would like to contribute something to
share, by all means drop me a line.
Change to LRC Opening Hours
The LRC will be open from 09:30, Monday to Friday. It will be
open for Prep (silent study/homework) from 4-5pm, and after
school provision continues until 6pm. There will be a 'Book
Returns' box outside the LRC if you'd like to return something
when the LRC is closed
How many books can you borrow? For how long?
Everyone can borrow up to 5 books, for 21 days. If you
haven't finished reading them, don't let them go overdue -
renew them online or come and see me. There's no problem
extending the loan period unless someone else has reserved
the book you have. Form Tutors receive weekly lists of any
overdue books - please do your best not to be on the naughty
list! If you borrow any books, please return them to me or the
returns box, not directly to the shelves - they have to be
scanned back in to be removed from your account... and
please NEVER remove resources from the LRC unless
they've been checked out.
Please drop me a line or come to see me at break/lunchtime
if you have any questions or suggestions. There might be a
delay getting back to you if there are lots of queries in the first
few weeks of term, but I will try to get back to you as soon as
I can.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Mrs Jones
Learning Resources Administration Manager
PS... for Years 7-13: If you're intending coming to Senior
Prep between 4-6pm, please share the LRC Direct Line
with your parents/guardians, who can call direct to say
they've arrived to collect you: 01633 820150

Elocution lessons are available for Infant, Junior and Senior pupils. Lessons for all
pupils concentrate on teaching children to express themselves clearly and with
confidence and ease. In addition older pupils starting in the Juniors are given tuition
in Public Speaking which involves preparing and delivering speeches and
presentations, experience of which is a great attribute for further education and
eventually employment. All pupils from the Infants to year 13 are able to sit
London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Examinations in the Speaking of Verse
and Prose, Acting, Reading for Performance and Public Speaking. Success in the
bronze, silver and gold medals carry a substantial number of UCAS points and are
highly regarded by universities and the work place. It is both possible and usual to
obtain two gold medals before leaving Rougemont. For more information contact
