General Package InformationThe town of Terrace is reached via direct flights to and from Vancouver, British Columbia. Your Heli-Skiing/Boarding vacation commences with your arrival in Terrace on the first day of your package. A company representative will meet you at the airport at the scheduled time and will accompany you to the lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge you will check into your rooms and meet for an informal orientation to the lodge and its amenities.

• Classic and Private packages include ground transportation to and from the Yellow Cedar Lodge.

• The Elite package includes air transfers by helicopter to and from the remote lakefront lodge.

Your first skiing day is busy with s everal safety briefings, an introduction to our skiing pr ogram and the weeks’ schedule. We will review our skiing and safety procedures and your pilot will go through a helicopter safety briefing. All guests will be required to sign our Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement, a copy of which is printed in this Booklet.

You will be grouped according to your skiing desires and abilities. Every effort will be made to keep groups that are traveling together skiing together. However, we reserve the right to build the groups according to our safety guidelines. You’ll notice that this is a reoccurring theme in everything we do; Safety First!

The week follows a relaxed schedule as follows with lots of time for skiing:

07:30 Breakfast and guides daily announcement08:30 – 09:00 Helicopters depart for skiing12:00 ish Lunch – a hearty meal in the mountains15:30 – 17:00 Return to the lodge (weather and group dependent)17:00 ish Après ski snacks in the lounge

19:00 Dinner

Heli-Skiing and Heli-Boarding offer the ultimate in mobility and access to vast skiing areas. Our vast tenure is one of the

largest in the world and offers a multitude of skiing options from huge open bowls and glaciers, to the steep and sheltered trees. Our location in BC’s remote northwest offers one of the deepest and most reliable snowpacks on the planet, and with Snowcat backup, we enjoy it every day!

When the weather is great we’re usually enjoying the huge alpine bowls and glaciers with descents of more than 1650 vertical meters (5,500 feet). As the snow starts to fall and the visibility is reduced we move into the subalpine and the trees where the snow is deep and protected. When the weather prevents us from flying to our Heli-Skiing terrain, we’ll still be enjoying that fresh powder at its deepest with the aid of our Snowcat backups. It’s the best combination imaginable! Heli-Skiing and Boarding perfected!

Operations and SafetyNorthern Escape Heli-Skiing has a comprehensive snow, weather and avalanche management system. Our guides are continually monitoring and collecting snow and weather information in an effort to assess hazards and choose suitable skiing/boarding terrain for each group. The guides meet twice daily to evaluate this information, plan the day and share the information obtained during the skiing/boarding day.

Each helicopter is equipped with first aid, oxygen, avalanche, rescue and survival equipment, as well as GPS, a satellite phone, and a VHF radio to maintain contact with the lodge and the guides.

Our guests are equipped with an avalanche transceiver and Snowpulse airbag backpack and provided instruction in their use prior to skiing/boarding. In addition to the equipment carried in our guides’ packs, each group will carry additional safety equipment and a VHF radio capable of communicating with the guides and pilots. In the case of a medical emergency, both Terrace and Kitimat have fully equipped hospitals located within close ranges of our lodges.

Northern Escape Heli-Skiing is a member of the British Columbia Helicopter and Snowcat Skiing Operators Association, HeliCat Canada. This association sets strict standards for operating a helicopter and/or Snowcat skiing area. Only by skiing/boarding with a member of HeliCat Canada can you be assured of certified ski guides who follow a strict set of operating procedures. In addition, we participate in the Canadian Avalanche Association Professional Members Industry Information Exchange (InfoEx) between backcountry skiing operators and, together with other leading Heli-Skiing operators, we sponsor avalanche research projects with the University of Calgary.

Mountain WeatherOur Heli-Skiing program is dependant upon weather, snow and avalanche conditions, factors of which we have no control over and are difficult to predict. Therefore, Heli-Skiing is not always perfect and you should be prepared to ski in all conditions. In addition, the more fit you are the more you will enjoy your Heli-Skiing package with us.

AVALANCHE AIRBAG SYSTEMThe Avalanche Airbag System (“AAS”) consists of a backpack integrating an airbag system which is inflated by manually pulling an activation handle. Once inflated, an AAS may assist in keeping a person caught in an avalanche closer to the surface, thus potentially increasing the chances of survival. The AAS may not always inflate and may not protect the user against trauma during an avalanche.

ASSUMPTION OF RISKS - AVALANCHES, ALPINE TERRAIN, WILDERNESS TRAVEL, WEATHER ETC. I am aware that wildernessactivities involves risks, dangers and hazards. The terrain used for wilderness activities is uncontrolled, unmarked, not inspected and involves many risks, dangers and hazards in addition to that of avalanche. Communication in the alpine terrain is difficult and in the event ofan accident, rescue and medical treatment may not be available. Alpine weather conditions may be extreme and can change rapidly andwithout warning, making travel by helicopter, snowcat or snowmobile hazardous.
