Week 10 Term 4, 11th December 2013
Dear Parents,
By the time this week’s Newsletter finds its way into your home, our Annual Presentation Day will be over for 2013. Many
thanks to the parents and families who were able to take the time out of their busy weeks, to join us at this occasion. It is always very rewarding to see all of the years’ award recipients being acknowledged by the school community. We are
though, always mindful of the efforts of those students who go unacknowledged on the day. With reports out tomorrow, I
know that there will be lots of pats on the back for effort and achievement during the school year.
Student reports for Years 1 through to 6 are laid out in a five point scale. The underlying premise of the report scale is that students who are working and achieving at the expectation for their grade will be awarded a ‘Sound.’ For students to
receive above this level they would need to be working above the expectation for their grade. If you do have any questions around your child’s report, please direct them in the first instance to your child’s teacher.
SCHOOL CLASSROOM REQUISITES
It is anticipated that Student Requisite Packs will be distributed to students in the second week of the new school year. The cost for each of the grades is enclosed in a separate note in this newsletter. Teachers will identify individual needs for
their classes when our class organisation is confirmed though the vast majority of equipment required is in the book pack.
CAROLS BY KOROROLIGHT
Please remember that Carols is a family occasion. Students will need to share the time with parents and not be out on the
field playing soccer or running around. Please help us by reminding your children before the event. The filed will be closed to games.
SRC 2014 At yesterday’s Presentation Day our SRC for 2014 was announced. Our Captains for next year will be Cohen Dunlop and
Kirra Masters. The Vice Captains are Jayden Herring and Tarryn Arnold. The Prefects are Matthew Lang, Rachael McConnell, Joey Donovan and Matilda O’Brien. Congratulations to you all. An Induction Ceremony will be held
on Friday, 7th February. Invitations will be
sent to the families involved early next year.
Have a wonderful last few days of school. Sue Mackay

School Banking Well Done
It has been a fantastic year for school banking this year with around 80 children taking part on a weekly basis. There have been many redemptions of awards which I hope the children have enjoyed. The last day for school banking this year will be Thursday 12th December. School banking should resume on Thursday 6th February (subject to a few new volunteers). In 2013 Kororo were the: Largest commission total in the whole of the NSW
Far North Coast Area - 139 active schools; 5th largest commission total in the whole of the
NSW/ACT region -359 active schools - this includes EVERY active school in NSW/ACT with the exception of the schools in the Sydney region;
56th largest commission total in the whole of NSW - out of 854 active schools; and
186th largest commission total in the whole of Australia - out of 3,592 schools! This puts us just outside the top 5% in Australia!!!!!
I hope next year can be just as successful if not more so. I would love to see 100 children taking part in banking each week. We have over 300 of our students registered for school banking. They all just need to remember to bring it in each week! Thank you to Karina and Chris for their support this year.

Starworkers Parenting Tips to Help
Ease the Stress of the
Holidays The holiday period can sometimes be a time of stress
where many parents find the prospect of keeping children
occupied for five weeks daunting. Christmas itself can be
difficult instead of a time for celebration particularly for
solo parents and separated families.
Set Expectations
Talk to your children about expectations of gifts and
holiday activities. Some children get caught up in the hype
of the holiday season so set realistic goals early.
Often it is the little things they remember, like the time
playing board games, you teaching them how to do things,
spending time with your children and just having fun –
things that cost little but have a big impact.
Acts of kindness and giving pleasure to others over the
holiday season can set good patterns of behaviour for the
future. If you invite a neighbour who lives on their own to
share your Christmas or if you bake for the homeless (and
they help) they will remember these things long after the
batteries on the remote control car have died or the head
off that doll!! These pattern stick.
Making Connections
Good relationships with family and friends are important.
This is not only enjoyable and fun but helps to lighten the
load when you share child minding and have swap
sleepovers, - they get to have different social experiences
and you get to have some adult time which can be much
needed.
Do Something Different
Many parents work so if possible do something out of the
ordinary both you and your family. Do
something you wouldn’t normally do,
whatever that may be – like going for a
beach walk, ice skating, kayaking, go
bike riding as a family do something
together these fun things build good
memories.
Join the Great Outdoors
It is thought by some that we need to
bring back the 70’s. A time where children ate their
breakfast then took off and weren’t seen til dinner time.
Nowadays things are different. Children have more
supervision but they need to be outdoors interacting with
nature, climbing trees, inventing games, jumping in
puddles, it develops creativity and is good for people
physically and emotionally. Computers and technologies
are great but there needs to be a balance that includes
restricted technologies/screen times and plenty of activity
over the holidays.
I hope these tips are helpful and that Christmas and the
holidays are wonderful experience for you and your
family.
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2014
