Home to the country's largest white fish and pelagic port with new a state-of-the-art fish market Peterhead Port Authority (PPA) offer facilities and services for the fisheries, oil and gas, renewables and leisure sectors.

TOWN CENTRE INVESTMENT Multimillion-pound investment in the town centre
Future Investment The new Peterhead Community Campus has been selected as one of the first projects set to benefit from a nationwide £1 billion investment programme. The Peterhead Community Campus is in the Council’s Capital Plan for the years 2023- 2028. Aberdeenshire Council has set aside £71 million to invest in this project. This extensive project is a key aspect of the Peterhead Masterplan, which also includes a new care home and the potential for new affordable housing as well as commercial units.
Rediscover Peterhead, Business Improvement District A significant component of Peterhead town centre and its economic future is the local Business Improvement District, Rediscover Peterhead Ltd. Operating from December 2017, during its 5 year term some £500,000 of investment will be made, generated from the levy from town centre businesses. This funds permanent staff to specifically roll out the 5 year business plan and deliver the core initiatives, projects and events. In addition to that, the aim is to lever further external funding to boost total spending in Peterhead town centre over the five year period to potentially £800,000 - £1 million.

Cinema Development Recently, encouraged through the Council’s Property Investment Fund, a private company announced the Arc Cinema Development in Marischal Street, which will see the Old Gala Bingo Hall converted into a luxury 5-screen cinema. This transformational development will attract additional footfall to Peterhead town centre and open up new opportunities for the businesses and community of Peterhead. The cinema will be operational in 2020 and offers opportunities for complimentary leisure and cultural services, cafes and restaurants to take advantage of increased footfall in the town centre.
Care Village 65-bed care home, sheltered housinG & community cafe To date 12% of the housing development within Aberdeenshire is within Peterhead, second to Inverurie in terms of new build completions at 122 which is a significant proportion of the Aberdeenshire total of 988.
Conservation Area Regeneration SchemE & Public Realm Investment Peterhead Development Partnership (PDP) is spearheading potential investment into the Conservation Area by targeting external funding to carry out sensitive repairs and enhancements to historic properties and spaces within the town centre. Bids to external funders are scheduled for spring/summer 2020. In preparation, the Council has taken forward £75,000 of development work to prepare bids to the Historic Environment Scotland for a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme, and to the National Lottery Heritage Fund to reuse historic buildings for contemporary purposes. Specific priority buildings include Arbuthnot House; the Town House; the former Royal British Legion building; 34 Broad Street; and the Muckle Kirk. Specific priority public realm spaces targeted for enhancement include the Broad Street and Maiden Street car parks.
The £250,000 enhancement of Drummer’s Corner to provide a new performance space, artwork, and improve amenity lighting is also scheduled to take place in 2020.

Financial Support Peterhead town centre is currently exempt from developer obligations as part of the regeneration programme. Financial grant/ loan support to unlock developments in the town centre via the Property Investment Fund. Economic Development team can sign post and advise business and communities on funding to bring forward new developments.
Other support Library Innovation Network Aberdeenshire (LINA) Project led by Robert Gordon University (RGU), will provide workspace for freelancers and entrepreneurs in Peterhead library, connecting local businesses to RGU's network of mentors and alumni whilst offering training and support. This is open to any business whether it is pre start, early stages or existing businesses.

THE CALEY

The site is a converted bakery which had fallen into disrepair. However, after deciding to start the local craft brewing business and developing the site, research showed that there had previously been a brewery there. In fact, Peterhead once boasted three breweries which had all developed a strong reputation for making excellent beer and ales – a task which was largely helped from the quality water supply that is fed to the town.
Since opening in 2017 Brew Toon have invested in additional brewing capacity in order to improve their production efficiency, keeping up with demand and ambitious growth plans.
Previous experience working with Aberdeenshire Council helped in the decision to locate to Peterhead, with Brew Toon acknowledging the Council's professional and proactive approach to supporting businesses to locate in Peterhead.
Brew Toon are a multi award winning Microbrewery and Café bar located in the heart of Peterhead, bringing good quality craft beers to the town and throughout the UK.

The ownership changed hands at various times as would be buyers sought (and failed) to find an affordable solution. The National Trust's Building Conservation Arm also carried out a study of the building, but could not find a viable solution. Initially, the building was owned by a private company – Fulmor Ltd. Like their predecessors, they could not find a viable solution, but they did maintain the floor of the building which inhibited further deterioration. Fulmor then approached Sandy Murray of Burnhaven Consultants to seek a solution and he in turn appointed a new professional team with experience in Historic Buildings.
There was strong support for the restoration of the building among the public and Aberdeenshire Council and other bodies, but no party at that stage was prepared to commit any finance as the building was in private ownership. There was some opposition to the idea of residential accommodation from parties concerned that this might inhibit the harbour's operations. Historic Scotland (as it was then) was a strong supporter although it was constrained by the terms of it’s grant framework. The Lottery Heritage Fund did not support housing and so was unfortunately ruled out. As the Council faced a shortage of affordable housing in the town and this was considered a possible community benefit solution, with a financial assistance package being provided. Following three years of complex negotiations to put together a funding package, the project could then be realised. Fulmor Ltd have retained and fitted out the ground floor, alongside the harbour, as office accommodation. Langstane Housing Association took over the building contract to create 15 affordable housing units. Their involvement and financial commitment was the key to the overall viability of the project.
The project was focussed on a B listed former net store dating from circa 1804 which occupies a prominent location in the Peterhead central conservation area. The property had lain vacant since the early 1990s and had become very dilapidated.

CASE STUDY THE CALEY BUILDING RESTORATION
The firm purchased ten one and two bedroom apartments in the former Buchan Observer Printworks building, near the North Harbour and close to the centre of Peterhead, following a full renovation of the building. The business has successfully identified a gap in the market here in Peterhead for both the corporate and tourist markets and with the latest figures from Aberdeenshire Council recording a total 441,000 overnight visits from tourists to the area in one year alone, the demand is clear.
"The purchase & conversion of the apartments in Peterhead felt like a natural step for the business. I have been project managing the restoration of the historic Caley building in Peterhead and so have spent a lot of time in the town recently. This has given us a sound knowledge of the local market and when the chance to acquire the apartments in the Buchan Observer office was presented to us we decided this was an ideal opportunity. We are expecting a mix of corporate guests as well as those visiting the area and have started to receive our first bookings already. The oil and gas industry generate a lot of business activity in the surrounding area, which we knew would create demand for this type of accommodation. With a number of golf courses located close by, including Donald Trump's International Golf Links, golfing tourism also presents an opportunity for the business to capitalise on visitors from outside the UK."
Aberdeenshire property company Burnhaven Properties has opened 10 serviced apartments in Peterhead’s old print works building. The company targeted the local business and leisure markets following a £533k funding package from Bank of Scotland.

CASE STUDY THE FORMER PRINTWORKS
Delivery Team There is a Council-wide desire to see the properties detailed brought back into use. Thoughtful proposals will receive support and advice during the planning process. Initial contact should be made to the delivery team who can help set out a route forward with your project.
Uses In line with the Town Centre First Principle, Aberdeenshire Council have policies in place within the Local Development Plan (LDP) that highlight which Use Classes are suitable in Peterhead town centre.
Developer Obligations The Council wishes to encourage investment/ redevelopment within Peterhead town centre. We want to bring these assets back into a productive use. As such developments within the town centre of Peterhead no longer require to contribute developer obligations.
Aberdeenshire Council supports Peterhead town centre. We want this dynamic community to thrive through enterprise, reinvention and innovation. In this way it will be able to more effectively meet the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors in the 21st century.
The key to the town’s success is creative sustainable growth.

BID Rediscover Peterhead is the ‘Business Improvement District’ in Peterhead town centre.  We are committed to developing the commercial strength of the town centre,
increasing footfall by improving the customer experience.  We have installed CCTV cameras, and carrying out deep cleans of pavements and alleys.  Our Seafood Festival attracts thousands of visitors to the town.  We advocate on behalf of local businesses, individually and collectively, on matters of importance to them.  We use our members levy payments to leverage in additional funding for projects and events, in support of our shared business objectives.
Peterhead One of Aberdeenshire’s main service and employment centres, located within the regeneration priority area. The northern gateway of Energetica, Peterhead represents one of Aberdeenshire’s strategic locations in terms of the energy and oil and gas sectors. It has the potential to develop further as a high quality lifestyle, leisure and global business location. There is demand and opportunities in Peterhead for future development.
