2013 event has been a great edition , and I hate to say it because I do not like to seem immodest . Please do not take it into account , it’s just fatherly pride.
The evolution from a single event: Spanish Event, to a “two festivals in one” format: “Spanish Event International Linedance Festival “ and “All Western Festival“ has not been easy.
We have always wanted that you enjoyed the event thoroughly, and the step taken this year has followed that direction. We should remain true to our motto: We will take care of you “, and it was necessary to put available for country lovers everything we have learned with the “Spanish Event“ during these years. In 2014 you will be able to calibrate everything we learned in 2013, and no doubt we will do the maximum so that “the two events into one“... Captivate you all a little bit more. Thanks for your support, thank you for your comments and your suggestions for improvements in the way that we undertook together with many of you in 2003. And .... we welcome you back to Lloret de Mar in November 28th - 30th 2014 !

Spanish Event Newsletter - March 2014
After 2012, when we celebrated our 10th edition with over 30 choreographers, we wanted to go back to the
25 choreographers in 2013. But, .... we did not and we
returned to more than 30 choreographers.
The increase in applications to attend of many
choreographers, the vocation to be a global linedancing
choreographers event and the inclusion of “country linedance catalan style” helped us to
decide again an ambitious goal for the 2013 edition.
The Choreo’s Show is one of the souls in Spanish, its importance and the importance of its
evolution marked our future.
A roster of choreographers have staged a great 2013 edition.
Will we be able that the Worlwide Choreo’s Show 2014 represents even more countries?.
Very soon you will know!

The sequence of activities, it is to say the programme times was very well received.
In fact the timing of this, in the interests of the linedancers deserved praise, though ...everything can be improved!
Regarding the spaces, we are more demanding, for example, the situation of the
vendors in the Olympic, showed us that what should have been an advantage, it was not, as the “event atmosphere” there could not be felt as well as in the situation of the previous year.
The other big new space, the Gran Casino de Lloret de Mar, where we developed the “All Western Festival” showed impressive qualities, but the necesity to use transport to the it(albeit free and although it worked as a clock ) left a shadow of doubt. Vendors located on it unfortunately did not enjoy the flow of visitors than the others placed at the Olympic.
Finally, we must work hard one more year to find another solution to the spaces issue!

The live music in 2013 All Western Festival
For the second year , the concerts have formed the core of the All Western:
The Country Festival in the Spanish Event. The concerts featuring Henry Smith Band, The Spunyboys & Alex T. & Judy G. Martin
A few editions ago we began offering concerts in Spanish . On the tenth anniversary of the event, we offered four live performances, and with them, the “All Western “ was born.
Moving the All western to the Gran Casino de Lloret de Mar, was a challenge and a significant risk , in our view, and we decided to stick to three country bands and to introduce
the “country linedance catalan style” . The support of the web “Va de Country “ and its involvement in the organization has been very important for the success. The bottom line: We are very pleased with the result, because during many years it has not been possible in Spain, to see
more than 700 spectators in a country music concert. We are very happy because finally the “All Western Festival“ has been born , and because it has been shown that a high enough percentage of linedancers still like live country music in particular, and “American live music” in general. We will return to bet on the All Western and we will continue working to get it bigger

Spanish Event Newsletter - March 2014
On Sunday evening , we had already received information announcing a strike of the pilots of the Brussels Airlines. We are a group of 13 people taking the same flight home. Monday, November 18 at 13:30 we arrive at the airport where we receive ( after the queue for 3 hours at the office of the company ) the confirmation of the pilots’ strike is effective . Our flight was 15:20, so .... canceled. We then get a new boarding
pass for the flight 21:10 and our luggage stored. A 17 hours Brussels Airlines sends an SMS informing us that the 21:10 flight is canceled, the strike is still ongoing. We repeat the queue for 2 hours hoping to find an alternative to
return . When our turn comes , we are told that there is no other option but to wait until tomorrow to find a solution. We were recommend to be very early at the airport to have more luck on finding an alternative flight with another company. We get one night’s accommodation (with breakfast and dinner ) and a transfer from the airport to the hotel. But we have more baggage (the latter having been recorded on the flight 21:10) . So we need to recover . This is where we meet
a Brazilian, living in Belgium , and is in the same situation as us. Thanks to her (she speaks Spanish) , we finally find our luggage at 20:45 ( it took almost 2 hours to recover ) .
We go to the terminus of the shuttle for hotels and when we finally find what we need, there are only 3 seats left. A “vanguard”of us takes those places to check all of us in, at the hotel. The other 11 people will be shipped later. We waited for the return bus in the rain for 20 minutes and finally we
arrived at the hotel at 21:00 . At the hotel we get our right to transfer from the hotel to the airport. Here we find that some of us take the bus at 06:30 , others at 07:00 and Marlene and me at 07:30 in the morning. There is not enough room to take the whole group at the same time . Remake all the “obstacle course “ for an alternative flight . Finally we get a solution Lufhansa ( German company ) . A flight from Barcelona to Munich and from Munich to Brussels. We all get into Brussels at the same time , that is to say at 18:10 on Tuesday, 19 . After the exhausting ( but beautiful ) weekend adventures without end , Marlene and I will keep excellent memories of this 11th edition of the Spanish Event The motto of our small country is “ unity is strength” and our group has fully implemented. It is less difficult to endure what we experienced when in a group than having to endure alone. Strongly the 12th edition of this extraordinary event

What to say about this weekend when the organizers have planned everything as usual and when it is superbly organized . The addicts to the workshops (36 choreographers and not least ) , the addicts to the open dancing; from 9.00am DJs get up until 2:00 in the morning to make us happy.
An unforgettable evening at Grand Casino de Lloret where we attended the “Duel of the Giants” grand final with an outstanding show performed by Roy VERDONK Jeremie TRIDON and Roy HADISUBROTO . This part of the event also allowed us to discover and listen to a brilliant country music concert.
Beyond dancing, this event is aptly named because really, it is an Event , the “Spanish Event“ has become a must where we pleasure to get together with friends to share a festive moment.
What more to say? just a big thank you to all the organizers , volunteers and especially Cati Torrella and George Rius for this wonderful weekend we just spent.
A big congratulation and ... thank you , see you next year.

At 19:00 h the celebrations open with:

But it is at night when it begins the presentation of the choreographers during the “Worldwide Choreo’s Show”.The choreographers present their latest choreography. A non-competitive initiative to present more than 25 choreographers from Europe and USA. The “Worldwide Choreo’s Show” allows choreographers may make known their dances so that the public can vote knowingly at the best in the “Hall of Fame”, a classification that will be valid for six months.

Another pleasure of the dance is the discovery of new choreography, the Spanish Event choreographers give through their presentations the best of themselves. Is an opportunity to allow viewers to attend the Spain Championship Line Dance.
However, the dance still leaves room for music and is in the “All Western”, moved to the Casino, where they play three bands: The Spunnyboys, Henry Smith Band y Alex T. & Judy G. Martin.

A great invention that has allowed us to be more responsible with nature, because every year we have printed a large volume of paper, and we all know that much of it was
wasted.
But not only are the trees were thankful with us, because to have the step descriptions automatically available in your tablet or your smartphone, removes work also to many of
you.
If we add the USB (which we finished mysteriously) that included all the step descriptions and the songs of the dances that were taught, and Dropbox by which you can you download all the sheets and music (even now), we believe that technology has managed to make life little easier, to the linedancers assisting Spanish Event.

Imagine: A long list of internationally renowned instructors and choregraphers; teaching over 90
Line dances of all styles, technical workshops, open dancing, DJ challenges, combat of champions, Line and team competitions, live bands, and vendors all in a four star hotel complex with spas, saunas and swimming pools in a weIl known Spanish holiday resort. No, you haven’t died and gone to the dance paradise, you are at the annual Spanish Event, Cities in Line, in Lloret de Mar. Maureen Jessop takes us by the hand and guides us through a “must-go-to” event
This veritable dance marathon is organised by Cathy Torrella and Georges Rius, a couple who have been at the helm of this popular event for 12 years and before that fronted competitive events under the UCWDC and WCDF. Their long experience shows in the perfect running for this fun packed weekend.
I arrived with French choreographer David Linger and his friend Brittany after eight hours on the road. David was not only going to teach two of his dances, but also DJ the open dancing and take part in the DJ Combat. Atter dining with Rob Fowler, Guylaine Bourdages, and Ivonne Verhagen, I spotted the one and only Steve Healy.
The highlight of the evening was the choreographers presentation of the dances they were going to teach during the weekend to give dancers an idea of which of the workshops they might Iike to attend. The dances ranged from pure country to funk, cha-chas, waltz’s and night club, something for every taste. The evening ended with open dancing in the bar area of the Olympic Suite hotel. In another part of the hotel, heats of the Spanish Linedance competitions were also taking place.
Saturday was the day that the 1800, mainly Spanish and French, Linne dancers were waiting for, the workshop marathon rightly called the Worldwide Choreo’s Show. The idea was, each choreographer woulcl teach a dance in only 20 minutes, meaning that three different choreographers relayed to teach one of their dances within an hour. For example; from 9.00am — 10am in one room, Darren Bailey was followed by Guylaine Bourdages, finishing with Alison Biggs. At the same time, in a second room Roy Verdonk, Jéróme Massiasse and Ria Vos
taught their dances. At the same time as this Guyton Mundy was holding a workshop in funk and hip hop technique.
This rhythm continued through until lunch time and, after siesta, the workshops began again at four pm until eight o’clock dinner. During the break, dance addicts could still take to the floor in the open dance sessions with a relay of DJ’s. Dancers rushed from one ball room to the other to catch the workshop they wanted to do, no one seemed tired or dance saturated, sorne even practicing what they’d learnt in the hotel lobby!
In the evening further deiíghts were planned. Live country music groups were to give a concert in the nearby Casino, and the DJ Combat and the Duel
of the Giants were also on the programme. The challenge for the DJ’s was to find three alternative pieces of music for a popular dance. The dancers would then vote for the DJ they judged to have

chosen the best alternatives. The Duel of the Giants pitted the champions such as the Roys (Verdonk and Hadisubroto), Daniel Trepat, Jeremie Tridon and José Miquel Vane against each other in a fun dance-off. The female champions such as Fiona Murray also dueled one against one another. The male winner was Roy Hadisubroto and the female winner was Satu Ketellape.
Sunday, the pace was a little slower as people had to pack their cases and check out of the hotels mid-morning, however rnost returned again to the workshops which were to continue until six pm with David, Darren, Rob, Alison, Daniel and many others. It was then that I had a big surprise. Who should be there but the UC fernale Crown champion Lilian Lo? Lilian had flown ah the way from her home in Hong Kong to take part in the event. She told me she wanted to participate al another big European event after her experience al the CBA’s a few years ago. Lilian will be competing at World’s in Nashville in January to defend her title.
In a way it’s not so surprising that Lilian made the long trip from the Far East, as it is rare to see so many of the top choreographers/instructors/coaches ah together in one place. Cati and Georges really catered to the needs of the Line dancer. Not only the
elite of our activity, but also those lesser known, such as young Frenchman Aurélien Marquet, who won a choreography competition at the Mirande Country Festival in July, his prize including the opportunity to teach his winning dances at the Spanish Event. Although, of course, England was represented by; Darren Bailey, Peter and Alison, Rob Fowler, Kate Sala and Gary Lafferty. Holland by the two Roys, Daniel, José Miquel, Ria, Ivonne and Remco. France with Jeremie Tridon, Jéróme Massiasse , David Linger and Guylaine. We also had Guyton on his very first visit to Spain and Benny Ray (UK), a sexy young Italian Giuseppe Scaccianoce and also many Spanish instructors including our hostess Cati.
After leaving the event and saying our goodbyes to our oid and new triends we took the highway back into France with our heads fuil of memories. David didn’t win the DJ Combat, but carne away with two belt buckles offered for his participation as an instructor and DJ, and the satisfaction of taking part at an International Dance Fiesta.
Thank you Cati and Georges for organising this unique event. See you soon on the road.
Linedancer Magazine wishes to thank George and Cati and Michele Godard for allowing the rnagazine to use sorne of their pictures.

In Spain, where in the summer months there are millions of tourists seeking sun, we met, from 15 to
17 November 2013, dancers of linedancing (country) from around the world for a very special event: George Rius and Cati Torella have organized 11 times the Spanish Event in Lloret de Mar. This year over 1,700 guests and 30 choreographers from Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Mexico, Canada and the United States felt the earth tremble at Olympic Resort & Convention Center and the Gran Casino Costa Brava.
The kick-off on Friday night with a dinner followed by a champagne reception. In nearly two hours of Choreoshow, choreographers presented their dances in two stages. Thus, participants were able to get a good overview of
professional workshops and decide who wanted to attend the next day.
On Saturday and Sunday the schedule was dominated by the workshops. In each of the two large rooms a total of 85 workshops were offered with a duration of 20 minutes each, a pretty athletic program. The fun does not fell short, classes were accompanied by lots of laughter. All workshops were well attended, the participants of the back rows could also have a good view of the respective choreographers thanks to a big TV screen. The workshops were in English, Spanish or French. And if that were not enough, they even expressed with their hands and feet ...
The proportion of Country and Freestyle (not Country) was very balanced and the levels ranged from Newcomer to Advanced. The favorite this year was unquestionably Darren Bailey. His workshops filled every inch of the dance floor. The other workshops were, among others, taught by José Miguel Belloque, Guylane Bourdages, Rob Fowler, Roy Hadisubroto, Gary Lafferty, Ivan Alejandro Lopez, Alison Biggs, Guyton Mundy, Benny Ray, Kate Sala, Daniel Trepat, Jeremie Tridon, Roy Verdonk, Ivonne Verhagen,Ria Vos, etc...
Besides the usual workshops, the Techclinic was offered additionally. It consisted of one hour technical workshops of Cha-Cha, Waltz and Hip-hop. These workshops were taught by the super talents of Linedance: Guyton Mundy, Roy Hadisubroto, Roy Verdonk, Daniel Trepat and Neil Smith.
For all those who just wanted to dance, they were offered abundant music. The Olympic Suits bar was for the Country Dancers. During the three days the DJ of this room put the most popular Country hits. In the Olymplic Park bar, on the other hand, all friends of Freestyle (not Country) could vent. Here, too, the DJ offered the popular songs for good humor. And music requests were met, of course.
And who needed a break from dancing , he could enjoy at the hotel restaurants good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A rich buffet of Spanish specialties and cooking, so that the fitness was not neglected. A walk through the many selling stalls: dancewear, shoes and accessories were also offered to guests.
Alongside the Spanish Event, on Saturday November 16, was held the All Western Festival at the Gran Casino Costa Brava, located just a few minutes walk from the Olympic. In addition to the workshops with Rob Fowler, Gary Lafferty and Cati Torella, the spectators were offered for the first time "Catalan Country Style" dances, where a total of seven dances were taught In the afternoon, visitors had the opportunity to enjoy country music on the dance floor. At the “Dj Kombat “, international Djs presented to the dancers,

three new songs for popularly known dances. In terms of live music, the guests were not left short: Alex T. & Judy G. Martin and Henry Smith Band secured a good atmosphere in the Casino. Finally The Spunyboys did vibrate the stage with hot rhythms and wild shows.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the "Duel of the Giants". To the music of the films "Honey" and "Dirty Dancing", internationally renowned dancers showed the audience their skills and enthusiasm with their choreographies. In men, Roy Verdonk, Roy Hadisubroto, José Miguel Belloque, Jeremie Tridon, Daniel Trepat and Giuseppe Scaccianoce climbed into the ring. In women, Henneke Van Ruitenbeek, Fiona Murray, Natalina Laner and Satu Ketellapper they dueled. At the end, Roy Hadisubroto and Satu Ketellapper were the winners and enjoyed the €1,500 prize.
To complete the weekend program we still had several competitions including the final of the Spanish Championships and the 2013 “Tush Push Contest”. This multifaceted event ended with a gala dinner and a successful party of “The last dance”. The high number of participants speaks for itself : ion the Spanish Event, visitors were entertained. Even among the choreographers , this event is very popular: Ivonne Verhagen: " It is my third year in the Spanish, and the second event that I give the workshops. I Love the event , there are so many " maniacs " of Linedance (laughs ) here and all with the same disease. There is no other event like this in Europe. " Roy Hadisubroto: " The atmosphere in the Spanish Event, is awesome. There is so much energy in the air , I definitely will return. There are very good teachers here and we meet people from all over the world even Japan and Mexico are represented –The international DJs are good. I especially like the Choreo -Show. So many things in parallel , it's fantastic !. It is also a great event to make contacts".
Daniel Trepat: This is already my fifth year in the Spanish Event. The event is unique, and there are many visitors. To us , choreographers and teachers, is also something very special , we meet many friends here. The atmosphere is very special . I'll be back ( wink ) ". We join Daniel Trepat : We will be back!
