For the Students: This student handbook serves as a contract of record between you and Nucamp for your time with the Nucamp program in which you have enrolled. Nucamp strongly suggests that you read this handbook thoroughly, then retain it for future reference. Students are bound to the version of the student handbook that is in effect upon their entrance into a Nucamp program. No other version of the student handbook supersedes the version in effect when the student enrolls in a Nucamp program.

Mission Statement Nucamp provides community coding bootcamps on evenings & weekends, allowing working adults currently left out of the digital economy to enter the software development industry.

Through our unique business model & software platform we are the first and only bootcamp to offer truly affordable, local and flexible programs across the US

History Nucamp was founded in 2017 by ex-Microsoft Ludovic Fourrage. After spending 18 years leading the development of digital learning at Microsoft, Fourrage experienced firsthand the lack of diversity in software development careers. He thought coding bootcamps might be the

Page 5: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

answer, but quickly discovered significant affordability and accessibility gaps, especially for those without college degrees, lacking previous job experience in technology, or underemployed even while working full-time. So, he left Microsoft and started Nucamp in his Bellevue, Washington home to revolutionize how people access rewarding careers in software development, without requiring a college degree or expensive loans in the form of income sharing agreements. There, Fourrage met many aspiring developers showing heart and potential, but who felt left out of the digital economy just because of where they lived or economic status. This felt incredibly unfair, so he committed to building Nucamp into a superior nationwide coding experience with unmatched value. Fourrage then brought on Karim El Naggar, an experienced executive leading software businesses at General Electric, as CEO to help scale Nucamp’s disruptive business model with outstanding operations, quality and the most passionate and skilled tutors. The two have since relentlessly worked to bring the promise of affordable coding bootcamps to every corner of the U.S. for under $2,000, a huge shift from traditional coding bootcamps that typically cost $10,000-$20,000.

Officers, Directors, and Trustees

Karim El Naggar, Founder and CEO, started with Nucamp as a business advisor and joined as a co-founder in 2018. Karim excels at growing businesses sustainably, consistently delivering on financial and customer satisfaction targets. He has been leading Digital, Industrial IoTs and Software global businesses in the US and internationally for over 15 years before joining Nucamp. Ludovic (Ludo) Fourrage, Founder and Chief Product Officer, is an education industry veteran, named in 2017 as a Learning Technology Leader by Training Magazine. Before founding Nucamp, Ludo spent 18 years at Microsoft where he led innovation in the learning space. As the Senior Director of Digital Learning at this same company, Ludo led the development of the first of its kind 'YouTube for the Enterprise'. More recently, he delivered one of the most successful Corporate MOOC programs in partnership with top business schools and consulting organizations, i.e. INSEAD, Wharton, London Business School, and Accenture, to name a few. With the belief that the right education for everyone is an achievable goal, Ludo leads the Nucamp team in the quest to make quality education accessible.

Grading System/Standards of Progress Students are graded weekly on the workshop assignment. A passing grade is a minimum of 6 out of 10. Instructors use the Rubric method to evaluate students and students may find more information about this evaliation method at https://wiki.nucamp.co/doku.php?id=grading_suggestionshttps://wiki.nucamp.co/doku.php?id=grading_suggestions. A student who misses an assignment must contact the tutor within twenty-four hours of the due date to inform him of late assignment submission and arrange for a new date of submission, which cannot be later than 10 days after the workshop date. Students may submit assignments late within reasonable limits provided:

- They have informed their tutor and have agreed on a new date with him. - They do not have more than 2 assignments late at any point during the bootcamp - They turn-in all their assignments at least 5 days before their graduation date, which is

usually 10 days after the last workshop. Students who fail to maintain the minimum grade point average of 6/10 required for graduation will not be issued a completion certificate.

Attendance Requirements Students are expected to complete their online learning and communicate with their tutors online each week as needed to be prepared for their Saturday assignment. Students are expected to attend the Saturday workshops in person (or in videoconference, depending on the bootcamp).

Nucamp recommends to students who are not showing continuous commitment to drop from enrollment. Occasional excused absences are acceptable so long as all assignments are completed, and the minimum grade point average of 6/10 required for graduation is maintained.

Page 16: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

Students who miss three consecutive workshop and/or do not submit 3 consecutive assignments will be required to drop the bootcamp or transfer to the next module delivery date.

Make-up Work There is no make-up work other than submitting late assignments. Students are required to publish their weekly assignment and receive a 6 out of 10 at a maximum of 5 days after the Saturday workshop.

Tardiness Students are expected to arrive on time for Saturday workshops and be prepared to begin work by the start of the session. This insures the maximum amount of instruction for the student with the least disruption for other students in the bootcamp. Students who develop a pattern of tardiness will be addressed by student administration and may be excluded if their behavior is detrimental to the class. If the tardiness continues after receiving coaching then the student will be required to drop-out or transfer to the next module delivery date.

Withdrawing from School To withdraw from Nucamp, student may go to their personal profile at https://www.nucamp.co/profile by selecting “change” on their bootcamp and then “cancel”. This action will have an immediate effect. They may also request to withdraw from the program via simple email sent to [email protected] The student refund is calculated automatically. See the Cancellation and Refund Policy section below for more clarification. Nucamp also offers students the option to retake a bootcamp module for a $39 fee, or to postpone enrollment to the next module starting 5 weeks later for a $39 fee. We offer these additional options in addition to simple withdrawing to offer flexibility to students who have professional or personal commitments or changes in their lives that conflict with their bootcamp schedule. We also offer students the option of retaking the complete bootcamp for

Page 17: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

the same fee of $39. The $39 fee is for the first change, all following changes or retakes are charged $79.

Page 18: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

Code of Conduct Nucamp supports a safe environment where students may comfortably pursue their academic goals. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a way that supports this environment, does not put other students or the tutors at risk from discrimination or harm in any form, conveys respect for other students and the tutor, and uphold academic integrity. Students are directed to the Nucamp Student Code of Conduct for further explanation and elaboration of student responsibilities in this area.

Conditions for Dismissal Students may be dismissed from the school for the following reasons:

1. Not adhering to Nucamp’s code of conduct. 2. Not meeting financial responsibilities to Nucamp:

a Students enrolled in a tuition monthly payment plan are expected to honor each payment on time.

b If a tuition payment fails, Nucamp will retry the payment 4 times over a period of 30 days. The 4th time the payment fails the student account will be suspended. The student can then decide to drop-out and receive a refund according to the refund policy, or to pay the tuition installment to re-activate his/her account.

Nucamp will notify the student in writing should it become necessary to dismiss the student. The dismissal letter will contain the date and the reason for dismissal. Tuition will be refunded according to Nucamp’s refund policy. Students dismissed from the school who request re-entry must put the request in writing at [email protected]. Student Grievance-Complaint/Appeal Process

Nucamp appreciates the importance of providing an opportunity for its students to express any complaint/concerns or appeals they may have and for the school to have a procedure for resolving those complaints or appeals in an equitable manner. Any student who questions a final course grade should first attempt to resolve the matter with the teaching assistant who assigned the grade. If a student fails to reach a resolution with the teaching assistant regarding a grade, the student may appeal by following the procedure outlined below.

Page 19: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

The student should attempt to resolve the complaint as soon as possible but at least within 30 days of the occurrence. If the matter is unresolved after attempting to resolve with the teaching assistant, the student may submit a formal written complaint to the administrator at [email protected]. no later of ten (10) days following the conclusion of the informal complaint, or 30 days following the occurrence giving rise to the complaint. The same protocol is used for submitting an appeal. The written complaint or appeal must contain the following information:

1. A statement stating that the student is filing a complaint or an appeal 2. Name of the student filing the complaint or appeal 3. Name of the TA or department the complaint or appeal concerns 4. Date(s) of the incident(s) or decision being appealed 5. The specific complaint/concern or decision being appealed 6. Any facts or additional information which could be useful in evaluation of the complaint

or appeal 7. The specific resolution being sought.

The administrator will respond within ten (10) business days of receipt of the complaint or appeal with a written decision responding to the complaint or appeal. All appeal decisions are final. If the resolution of a complaint is unsatisfactory to the student, the student can request to have the decision reconsidered by the administrator. The administrator will respond within fifteen (15) business days of receipt of the complaint with a written decision resolving the complaint.

Students who have a concern or complaint that has not been resolved may direct to: Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board 128 – 10th Avenue Southwest Olympia, Washington 98501 360-709-4600 [email protected]

Cancellation and Refund Policy Nucamp will refund all money paid if the applicant is not accepted if a starting class is cancelled. Should the student’s enrollment be terminated, or should the student withdraw for any reason, all refunds will be made according to the following refund schedule.

Page 20: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

A week is considered “attended” by the student when the student has submitted the workshop assignment for that week. There are no partial week calculations in the rules provided below.

1- If the bootcamp has not started: • Less than 5 days after registration, we will reimburse 100% of the money paid • 5 days or more after registration, we will retain a registration fee of 30$ for Web

Development Fundamentals bootcamps or $100 for other bootcamps and reimburse the remaining amount paid.

2- After the bootcamp has started: the amount retained by Nucamp is calculated based on number of weeks of attendance: • Less than 1 week of attendance: 10% of total tuition + registration • 1 week of attendance or more, but less than 25% of total instruction weeks: 25% of

total tuition + registration • more than 25% but less than 50% of total instruction weeks: 50% of total tuition +

registration • more than 50% of total instruction weeks: 100% of total tuition

When calculating refunds, the official date of a student’s termination is the last day of recorded attendance:

1. When the school receives notice of the student’s intention to discontinue the training program via the student self-service Web portal, or via email,

2. When the student is terminated for a violation of a published school policy which provides for termination; or,

3. When a student, without notice, fails to attend classes for 30 calendar days.

All refunds will be paid within 30 calendar days of the student’s official termination date. For reference:

• Web Development Fundamentals bootcamps comprise 4 weeks of instruction • Front-End and Mobile Development bootcamps comprise 14 weeks of instruction • Full Stack and Mobile Development bootcamps comprise 18 weeks of instruction

Nucamp also offers students the option to pause their attendance to a bootcamp and resume it with another cohort for a fee of $39 (or $79 after first occurrence).

Student Records Nucamp will maintain student records for 50 years or until the school closes. If the school closes, whether voluntary or involuntary, Nucamp will forward educational records and

Page 21: Item F Nucamp Catalog V08 - storage.googleapis.com

transcripts to the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, 128 10th Ave SW, Olympia, WA 98501. Upon graduation, Nucamp will present each student with a copy of his/her transcript. Students should retain these records indefinitely. Students may request additional copies in writing from the school for a $25.00 transcript fee. Students may review their student records at any time.
