TIDA Tree Maintenance & Removal

• The Department of Public Works has provided arborists services through a work order

• Arborists have pruned trees as necessary

• Damaged, downed, unsafe or unhealthy trees have been removed as necessary

• Trees are removed as necessary in conjunction with Navy environmental projects

• TIDA has not had documented procedures regarding tree removals, but has removed trees as necessary

• Neighborhood parks and squares, and

• Other park properties

• Addresses emergency tree removals

• Includes posted notices in some cases prior to removal

• Does not provide for appeals


Proposed Procedures

• On July 2nd, TIDA posted Draft Tree Removal Procedures for public comment

• Sent to Urban Forestry Council and Public Works Urban Forester for comment

• Procedures are modelled after the Recreation and Parks Department Tree Removal Procedures

• Allows for the management and removal of trees in accordance with the approved development plans and the Habitat Management Plan for Yerba Buena Island

• Future Street Trees would fall under the Public Works Urban Forestry Ordinance process
