The LRC recently ran a competition linked to the

Scholastic Book Fair which came to School last week.

The challenge of the competition was to create a piece

of bunting for the LRC based on a child's favourite

book or author, to include three words to describe how

the book/author made them feel. Some beautiful and

thoughtful entries were received, thanks to everyone

who entered and supported the competition, and to Mrs

Bateman and Sixth Form art students for judging.

**UPDATE**

A huge thanks to everyone who bought a book during

the Scholastic Book Fair last week.

We are delighted to report that you raised £1,225 for

school resources.

BADMINTON SUCCESS

Year 8 pupil Sot-sai represented Gwent Youth County

Badminton Squad last weekend in the U18 Shires

League against Worcestershire. She won her first

doubles match, then lost to a much stronger and older

pair in the second match. In her singles match, Sot-sai

narrowly missed out on victory by 3 points in the final set,

21-16, 16-21, 18-21. Overall Gwent County lost to

Worcestershire 17-3, with Sot-sai contributing one of the

three games for Gwent.

Budding engineers of the future

ARKWRIGHT SCHOLARS

David Oyns, the local Arkwright Scholarship

representative, came along to meet with scholars and

potential scholars in Mrs Goodwin’s lab on Monday.

We were particularly proud to learn that Rougemont is

one of the most successful schools on the programme.

CONGRATULATIONS, LUCA!

We are delighted for Luca in Year 13 who has received

his Arkwright Scholarship at a special ceremony in

London during October half term.

Luca is studying the STEM subjects at A Level and

hopes to read a STEM-related subject at university in

2020.

Serious business in Year 13

SENIOR SUBJECT SPOTLIGHT

Mr Savery, Head of Economics, leads this very popular

A Level subject.

With an increasing number of our alumni embarking on

degrees and careers focused around business and

finance, Economics is becoming a very popular subject

for pupils looking to further their knowledge in this area.

Currently, Year 13 are studying second year macro-

economics and with the political climate facing the

country post-December, pupils are engaging in debate

and conversation on this extremely interesting and

challenging topic.

The pupils will soon head to a ‘Strong Foundations’

conference in Bristol.

We are delighted to announce that our charity day

raised more than £2,000.

As per the pupils’ wishes, the monies will be

divided equally between Children in Need and local

charity St David’s Hospice.

Fantastic!
