Ms Byron is conƟnuing in her role at Oak Flats High School for this term and I conƟnue to relieve as Principal in her absence. Year 12 have commenced their HSC examinaƟons. The front of school building work has commenced in earnest. Students and teachers returned to school aŌer a very successful European tour during the school holidays. CongratulaƟons and welcome to the two newest permanent members of staat Nowra High School. Ms Holly Williams has been appointed to the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) faculty. Ms Williams has been working within the faculty on a temporary basis so the transiƟon to a permanent status has been seamless. Ms Williams has already made her mark at Nowra High in the Hospitality area through the establishment of the Nosh Café with the VET Hospitality classes in Year 11 and 12. Mrs Karen Sharpe has been appointed as a permanent SASS member, working in the front oce. Mrs Sharpe also had a quick transiƟon as she has been working on a temporary basis for some Ɵme. CongratulaƟons to the NHS Years 7 & 8 debaƟng teams who completed their nal rounds of the Premier’s DebaƟng Challenge at Bomaderry High School on Wednesday, 12 th October. The NHS (A) team consists of Lachlan Webb, Darcy Hopkins, Mackewin Strachan and Josh Riepsamen (all Year 8 boys). They defeated BHS to emerge the undefeated Zone winners (30). They are now going to compete in the Regional Quarter Finals on Wednesday, 19 th October, against Smith’s Hill HS at their home ground. NHS (B) consists of James Horner, Devlen Strachan, Rory Lowe and Luke Kielly (Year 7 students). They won their nal debaƟng round and ended the compeƟƟon with 1 win, 2 losses – however, they improved so much with each debate and should be formidable opponents in next year’s compeƟƟon. Both teams performed and behaved excepƟonally well, Ms Woods was extremely proud of them and commented that they looked smashing in their NHS blazers! Good luck to NHS (A) team this week in Wollongong. Local Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock visited Nowra High on Friday to inspect the recently commenced $2.8m capital works upgrade to the administraƟon block and entryway to the school. The improvements will have a signicant impact on the administraƟve funcƟons of the school, beneƟng community members, parents and carers, students and sta. Year 12 students 20162017 have commenced their Higher School CerƟcate studies. Each student has been given a copy of the 2017 Higher School CerƟcate Rules and Procedures, distributed by the Board of Studies Teaching and EducaƟonal Standards NSW (BOSTES). Under The EducaƟon Act 1990 (NSW) BOSTES awards the HSC to students who comply with the Act and meet the requirements in this guide. Students have also been issued with the Nowra High School Year 12 Assessment Booklet which outlines assessment procedures and policy as well as assessment task outlines and due dates. It is very important that each student understands what is expected and required of them to meet the condiƟons for the award of the Higher School CerƟcate. The excursion to Italy and Great Britain during the last school holidays was extremely successful. The students took full advantage of this incredible occasion, they asked lots of quesƟons , threw themselves into the whole cultural and historical immersion opportunity, their behaviour was impeccable and very posiƟve , they were helpful and mature beyond their years. They travelled to Great Britain and Italy for a total of 16 days. Thank you to Mr Morgan and Mrs Morgan, Mr Spooner and Ms Short for their very detailed organisaƟon and for devoƟng their holiday period to give Nowra High students such an eye opening and unforgeƩable experience. A full report will appear in the next newsleƩer. Mrs Leslie is busy once again organising for the 2017 French student visit to Nowra High. 30 students and 2 teachers from the Lycee Paul Cezanne school in AixenProvence will visit Nowra High from 16 February unƟl 3 March 2017.
