Your Board of Directors informs you … • 2010-2011, a great year, great activities and of course thousands of volunteer efforts from
you and we are very grateful!
• As of May 23, when we welcome a new volunteer, a document must be obtained from the Sûreté du Québec confirming that the volunteer does not have a criminal record. This docu-ment should be submitted to the Volunteer Centre. This is a procedure carried out in order to protect vulnerable clients served by the center and to provide better screening practices.
• The Board had its regular meeting on Thursday, June 23! The action plan and budget were adopted, the election of the executive council was held, here are the following results: Rose Henry, Chair Omer Poirier, Vice President Gabrielle Dorion, Secretary and Treasurer Members of the Board join forces to thank Mrs. Gaetan Du-mais and welcome Andree Lepage!!! • By the end of October, a tour of the parishes will be organized by the staff of the Volunteer Centre and Members of the Board to present our code of ethics and we invite you to join. Invitations will go to by the end of September. The Code of Ethics is intended to clarify the rights and duties of each participant within the Volunteer Cen-tre: volunteer, beneficiary, director and employee . • The Volunteer Centre will be closed, Monday, October 10 for Thanksgiving; we thank you for your understanding!
• Changes have been made on the side of the service point of the Alzheimer Society Gas-pésie / Les Îles. From October 1, 2011, these employees will no longer be the responsibility of the Volunteer Centre but the responsibility of the SAGIM. The service point that covers the territory of St-Simeon to Port-Daniel inclusive will be fully managed by the Alzheimer Society Gaspesie / Les Îles. We take this opportunity to thank Line Boudreau and Kathy-Edith Lacroix for their dedicated services and wish them much success! Rest assured, these changes should have no impact on services to families and friends of the people living with Alzheimer's. Finally, we wish you a beautiful and healthy autumn, full of beautiful mo-
ments in your volunteer efforts!

Walk for mémories 2011, Thank You!
On our territory, The Memory Walk was a frank success with beautiful smiles under umbrellas and a mov-ing tribute read by Mrs Juliette Arse-nault in the Centre d’hébergement of New Carlisle and the delivery of three plants for the targeted depart-
ments. On the way back, the walkers were welcomed by our volunteers for hot dogs, and snack and by mu-sicians. The afternoon took place under Mrs Louise Cayouette animation with musical performances and interviews, and a guest surprise, Doctor François Charest, which works in Montreal with persons affected by the Alzheimer's disease.
Approximately 188 walkers walked the boulevard Gérard-D.-Levesque of New Carlisle this May 29th and 66 volunteers helped to the organization of this event. The walk took place without any incident and al-lowed us to collect $15 368 . All the collected funds are left to our point of services to continue to serve families touched by the Alzheimer's disease. The answer of people was extraordinary, even if the tempera-ture was not one of us, and we are very grateful to you for it.
One big thank you to the walkers, to the partners, to the donors, to the volunteers and to our 45 walkers elites: St.Simeon: Marie-Jeanne Laflamme, Jeannine Deschamps, Brigitte Paquet, Edith Poirier, Diane Arse-naut, Lina Bourdages. Chers bénévoles, Chères bénévoles, Summer is all but over and Fall with its beautiful colors is just around the corner. The Centre d’Action Bénévole is now ready to resume its regular activities, namely: meals on wheels, training activities, and committees of volunteers for the elderly. To all our volunteers, we’re glad you’re back. Here are the good news: on May 27, I attended the PRASAB (Regroupement des popotes roulantes et autres services alimentaires bénévoles) convention in Laval. An ideal week-end to exchange information with individuals and groups involved with meals on wheels. The comments received from our meals on wheels volunteers during the Semaine québécoise des Popotes (Quebec meals on wheels week) were posted on the display of the convention hall in Laval with those obtained in other parts of the prov-ince. It was touching to read how grateful the elderly are towards the volunteers for their generous work and for the little visit that comes with the meal. What heart-warming comments! Congratulations and thank you to all the volunteers of meals on wheels. The meals on wheels program resumed on the first week of September in the following communities: St-Siméon, Bonaventure, New Carlisle, Paspébiac, Hope, Hopetown, St-Godefroi, Shigawake and Port-Daniel. If you have an hour or two to give per week, the Centre d’Action Bénévole would like to increase the number of volunteers on its terri-tory to deliver meals on wheels between 11am and noon. The objective is to deliver a warm meal to someone who is either sick, elderly or in loss of autonomy. If you are interested in joining this dynamic group, please contact us at 418- 752-5577 and ask for Rita. This Fall, I will gladly meet with all the committees of volunteers for the elderly in the following communities: St-Siméon, Bonaventure, St-Elzéar, New Carlisle, Paspébiac and Port-Daniel. A heartfelt thank you to all who have undertaken their volunteer work for the next year. And to those of you who have left us this year after giving us so much of your time over the past years, sincere thanks!!! Finally I would like to ask you to promote your Centre d’Action Bénévole by informing all your friends about our programs. For more information, go to our website at: www.cabst-simeon-port-daniel.com. Thank You for your time, Rita H. Maldemay, Home Care Worker

The arrival of the service PAIR…
Pair, a reassuring presence
The Pair Program is acve in most Quebec municipalies. Its success rests
mainly on the need to establish closer contacts with cizens. Calling an
individual each day gives this person a feeling of security. The Pair Pro-
gram allows this individual to connue living at home and all the while
keeping his/her autonomy.
Objecve of the Pair Program The Pair Program is a prevenon and safety program in the home. Through an automated calling service,
members of the program receive daily, at a predetermined me, a Pair call to make sure all is well. More
than just a program, the Pair Program is a way of living within a community concerned with the well-being of
its cizens. A reassuring service that guarantees peace of mind for family and friends.
Who can benefit from the Pair Program
Any individual who is either rered, living alone or ill can benefit from this free program
offered by the agencies of the Pair Program. Feeling secure in your home is essenal to your health.
How does it work ?
Each day, the agency, through the computer, dispatches a precise and personalised message at a predeter-
mined me. In every case, the system ensures that the member answers the call and then plays the intend-
ed message (s). If the member answers the call it confirms that he or she is able to call 911. However, if
there is no answer, the automated system will call again in a short while. This me, if the member does not
answer, an alert procedure is immediately triggered and individuals in charge of the system (a member of
the family, a friend, a neighbour, a police officer or a volunteer) will go to the home to verify whether the
member is in distress or not. If for some reason the member leaves his/her home for a period of me he/
she must nofy the local Pair Program agency and give his/her intended return date.
This service was established in the Baie-des-Chaleurs last June, thanks to the financial assistance of the pro-
vincial Pair commi2ee for the purchase of the equipment. The Centre d’Acon Bénévole will develop this
service during the 2011-2012 year. This service is presently available and if you need further informaon,
contact us at 418-752-5577 and ask for Sindy.
Looking forward to providing help to the elderly living at home.

The month of September means the return to school with daily routines being set. I want to wish you a beauti-
ful autumn. A word of advice to have more time, to plan your activites, to fulfill your obligations, and plan ou-
tings… A wall calendar is recommended. For example, a calendar purchased at « Dollorama » will allow you
to better organize yourself. I am certain that many of you have already done this.
The Actions of P’tit Bonheur...
*The 3rd annual « Salon de la petite enfance » event took place last May 14th. We are very proud to mention
that 478 childrens and 598 adults passed through the doors, therefore a total of 1076 people attended this
event in Bonaventure. I remind you to mark your calendar for the 4th annual event upcoming in May of 2012.
The new billingual services offered last year attracted 375 families.
*Here are some statistics from the 2010-11 annual report presented at the last annual general meeting:
General emergencies : 46 childrens supportted, 33 families
Clothing emergencies : 62 children supported 32 famillies
Respite care : 56 children supported, 46 families
Accompaniment/transport : 7 children supported, 5 families
Equipment rental: 46 children supported, 44 families
Listening, advice, references : 158 families supported
*As in previous years, we prepared a « Pace evaluation report », a requirement from Healt and Welfare Ca-
nada, for the funding of Le Petit Bonheur. For those who do not know it PACE means « Programme d’action
communautaire pour les enfants ». We sent this document last June 23rd and this evaluation permits the
creation of a National Picture of the employees and participants as well as the types of activities, programs
and services offered both regionally and Nationally. In addition, it answers the requirements and accountabili-
ty to healt Canada.
*I am preparing some workshop, which will be held in Novembre, on budget and planning. If you have any
ideas to add, I welcome them; that is how we can better serve your
needs!
*I also wish to mention that we would like to welcome new volun-teers each year, therefore spread the word and of volunteering is of interest to you call the Centre d’Action Bénévole St-Siméon/Port-Daniel at 418-752-5577 and ask for Annie! Annie Léonard, intervenor/animator
